Dogs with dreadlocks: types and content
There are so many dogs of different breeds on earth! There are service dogs - from shepherds to rescue divers, decorative and hunting dogs. This article will focus on dogs with dreadlocks, keeping and caring for them.
Main breeds
There are not so many dogs with dreadlocks, the most famous are the following breeds:
- bullets;
- bergamasco;
- commander;
- Spanish water;
- havanese;
- also some poodles, whose curly coats can be woven into dreadlocks.
Dogs are a bit similar in appearance - just because of the peculiarities of the coat. They have a very soft and dense undercoat and a long, wavy and coarse coat. Intertwining, it forms the "calling card" of these dogs - cords, popularly called dreadlocks. Such a peculiar plexus of wool gives dogs the opportunity to perfectly endure the vagaries of the weather - both heat and cold, and also protects against predator bites and helps to camouflage.
What is noteworthy, up to 9 months, puppies of these breeds practically do not stand out among other dogs, dreadlocks are formed in them from about 10 months to 2 years.
Bullets
This is a Hungarian shepherd's shepherd dog, short - at the withers just above the knee of an adult (about 40-45 cm). The character is cheerful, friendly, endurance and unpretentious. She is smart, easy to train, quickly grasps commands. This is a devoted friend and helper, good for children, especially small ones. The color of the coat can be black with a grayish or reddish tint, white with a pearl tint, or fawn (with a black mask).
Bergamasco
The breed is slightly larger than a bullet, males grow up to 60 cm, and females - up to 56-58 cm. The muscles are well developed, the bones are large, heavy, the head is large. The tail is drooping, thick. The character is light, obedient. The dog is distinguished by its benevolence, intelligence, excellent working capacity. Naturally stubborn, but this defect can be corrected by education. The breed is unpretentious to food, easily gets used to almost any climatic conditions.
On the body and upper part of the legs, the dreadlocks are large, rectangular in shape. The coat is usually gray, sometimes black or yellow. There is also a spotted color, however, in the standards of this breed it is prescribed that the main color should occupy at least 80% of the wool.
Commander
A large dog with well-developed muscles and powerful bones. The coat is thick, white. Males grow up to 65 cm at the withers, females - up to 60 cm. A very strong, fearless and loyal dog. He is wary of strangers. As a puppy, she is very playful, however, like other puppies. It is used as a guard dog for the house or guarding herds of pets.
Conditions of detention
Almost all dogs with dreadlocks need life in nature, in the city they are cramped and uncomfortable. The only exceptions are, perhaps, only poodles and havanese - their small size allows dogs to live in apartments without prejudice to their own health. Dogs need physical activity - active games or jogging in the fresh air, and at least 4 hours a day.
Do not keep dogs on short leashes., they do not differ in increased aggressiveness, that is, they will not rush at strangers without a command, and a long restriction of their freedom will negatively affect health. There are no restrictions on the climatic preferences of dogs, they easily tolerate the vagaries of nature - both heat and frost, but nevertheless, in the southern regions, the dogs are uncomfortable - in such and such a fur coat!
Therefore, if in your area the summer temperature rises above 40 degrees, it is better to choose another pet for yourself.
How to care?
Taking care of your pet's health plays an important role in caring for your pet. When purchasing puppies, do not forget to study their pedigree and parental records - the predisposition to many serious diseases is inherited. That's why up to one year of age, puppies must be vaccinated and then taken 1-2 times a year to the veterinarian for preventive examinations. For any ailments - whether it be a slight limp, night blindness (by a bullet), an urgent need to examine the dog in order to catch the disease at an early stage and cure it, otherwise it will be too late.
The coat of dogs of these breeds only needs washing and sometimes cutting strands that are too long and interfere with orientation in space. You don't need to comb them. This procedure, which is necessary for dogs of other breeds, is useless and even harmful in relation to shaggy pets. At the age of 9 months - 1 year, when dreadlocks begin to form, and the coat is very tangled, such braids must be carefully unhooked by hand. The older the dog is, the less the need for such a procedure. When clipping dogs with dreadlocks, they usually leave cords about 0.25 m long.
Another important procedure in pet care is bathing... Due to the nature of your pet's coat, you need to use detergents (shampoos) containing lanolin when bathing. You need to wash the dog gently, in no case making circular movements - this way you will only knock the wool into tangles. At the end of the wash, rinse the cords thoroughly and wring them out by hand. There is no need to blow dry your dog, natural drying is the best way to keep the dreadlocks in shape.
As with any long-haired dog, paws and ears are the weak point of dogs with dreadlocks. A thick coat can hide parasitic infestations or injuries, so don't be lazy to inspect your dog again. For convenience, the cords on these parts of the body can be cut shorter or cut off altogether.
Feeding
Bullets, Commander, Bergamasco are unassuming in food, however, this is not a reason to feed them poorly. Proper nutrition is an important factor affecting the health and life expectancy of animals. The ideal option, of course, is the holistic class feed. - they are made only from natural ingredients of the highest quality. There are no chemical additives in them - dyes, preservatives and flavorings. But they also have a corresponding price, such food is not affordable for everyone.
Therefore, the option of feeds seems to be more acceptable premium class... They are quite high quality, with a full range of essential trace elements and other biologically active components. When choosing a food, look at its composition - it is important that the dog gets enough calcium, because this element is necessary for your pet's coat to be healthy.
If you are not a supporter of ready-made feed and prefer to feed your animals with environmentally friendly, natural products, then remember the following:
- you cannot feed the dogs with fatty meat, pasta, potatoes, as well as semi-finished products of dubious origin;
- the diet should include lean meat, cereals, milk and its products, as well as some vegetables - carrots, cabbage;
- it is recommended to give the dog complexes of vitamins with such a diet;
- more than half of the portion should be meat products (or by-products - liver, kidneys, etc.).
In conclusion, we can say that almost all dogs with cords are excellent watchmen and guards. And given their unpretentiousness, an unusual appearance and mind is also a decoration of a country house.
