As a woman cuts excessively regrown curls, aligning with a certain style and image, trying to look well-groomed, so pedigree dogs, which naturally have long hair, also need to remove excess hair. Among long-haired dogs, it was the lapdog that gained particular popularity: its coat sometimes hangs down to the floor, while this dog is not tall.

To prevent long hairs of wool from falling into tangles, spoiling its appearance, the lapdog needs to be trimmed.

Preparation

Movement is life, and so that the dog does not escape from the hands of the master, does not seek to run away, before the hair cutting session, it must be allowed to run and relieve itself. Do the following:

  • feed the animal;
  • wash the lapdog using shampoo and balm;
  • let the wool dry - wet wool will blunt scissors faster than dry wool;
  • use a hair dryer to speed up drying.

Features of cutting lapdogs

When a dog goes to shows, the thoroughness and scrupulousness of the process is very important. Dogs with soft coats are trimmed once a month. But everyday haircuts are also performed at home. In other cases, contact the groomer - "dog hairdresser": he will perform a haircut of any complexity quickly and professionally.

What is needed?

In addition to a clipper with a set of attachments, regular and thinning scissors, you will need the following tools and supplies:

  • collar cutter;
  • furminator;
  • metal hairbrushes;
  • crest;
  • a special brush for polishing wool;
  • nail clipper;
  • hairdryer with warm air function;
  • disinfectant liquids: hydrogen peroxide and rubbing alcohol.

As compositions for washing lapdogs, you must prepare:

  • bleach for wool;
  • extract or emulsion based on coconut oil;
  • balm enriching the hair structure;
  • moisturizing shampoo;
  • mousse for styling wool;
  • gloss aerosol;
  • cleansing drops for the ears;
  • composition for lightening lacrimal paths.

Common shampoos used by humans, such as the popular Head & Shoulders anti-dandruff brand and laundry soap, will felle the coat and give it a matte finish.

Basic actions

Pedigree dogs are trimmed according to the same principle: on the head, near the eyes, the hair is tied with mini-hairpins. From head to tail, the wool is combed to the sides along an even parting. Do the following:

  • place the dog on the cutting table and fix it;
  • start trimming from the muzzle, moving in the process of trimming from the eyes;
  • use a clipper on large areas of wool.

Haircuts for participation in dog competitions

Maltese lapdogs at the exhibition are a reason for the arrival of a huge number of spectators. The white Maltese lapdog with long, floor-length hair is very beautiful, but each of these dogs is prepared for several hours for such a show. Maltese lapdog needs professional shampoo - the goal is to give it a brilliant white shade. Using a special balm or oil, light combing of the coat is achieved.

Trimming is minimal - it only eliminates the intensive dragging of the fur on the floor. Also do styling - and the dog is ready for demonstration at the show.

What is the difference between cutting a "girl" from a "boy"?

The clipping of hair in the genital area of bitches and males is a natural distinction. On the head of the male, the hair is generally cut short, but the female is left with long strands, sometimes braiding them in the form of braids. But clipping “under a puppy” is not very suitable for “girls”.

How to trim a puppy?

Most of the "dog curls" are trimmed lengthwise, allowing the dog's skin to breathe and the remaining hair to look neat and tidy. To trim a lapdog "like a puppy", do the following:

  • trim off excess hair near the ear canal, apply ear drops to the newly treated area;
  • wash the lapdog with a bleaching compound, apply a moisturizing balm to the coat, then dry and comb the coat;
  • cut off excess hairs in the area of the paw pads;
  • after repeating combing all the fur, cut off the excess on the face using regular and thinning scissors, leaving slightly longer strands in the ears;
  • cut off excess wool on the sides, on the back and on the abdomen with a machine;
  • cut the hair in the anus and genitals with scissors;
  • round out the outline of the coat on the paws;
  • Spray all strands with a glossy shine.

Trendy haircuts

In addition to the "puppy" and the classic show haircuts, others are also used:

  • under a teddy bear;
  • under the chinchilla;
  • in Korean.

If necessary, several strands of a lapdog girl are painted if the owner considers that she does not look impressive enough. The length of the coat remains unchanged, the strands of the dog are pulled back a little. Rounding the outlines of the paws is given by removing excess hair between the toes.

Hygienic cutting

In the area of the genitals and rear, the hair is shortened - this will allow the lapdog to avoid inflammation from the lack of access to open air. On the belly and in the area of the paw pads, hair is also removed. Substantial hair removal all the way down to the scalp will keep your dog comfortable in hot summer weather.

Recommendations

Additional tips are as follows.

  • Washing the dog is necessary: particles of sand and clay can quickly blunt scissors or spoil the machine. Use conditioners and moisturizers for washing - they will make the strands manageable.
  • Trim or untangle the tangles and dry the pet thoroughly.
  • Use a muzzle when cutting a particularly aggressive dog.
  • When electrically cutting, move the clipper in the direction of hair growth, otherwise you risk making the dog almost bald.
  • Trimming near the eyes is carried out away from them, otherwise the cut off hairs may get into the eyes of the dog.
  • Near the anus, trim the cover by hand.
  • Lop-eared Maltese lapdogs require ear drops on the ear canals every 10 days. If there are tears in the eye area, remove or replace one of the components of the pet's diet. Remove lacrimal lines with a special gentle bleach.
  • A calm and relaxed atmosphere helps to avoid pronounced aggression from the pet.

What shouldn't be done?

  • Do not use household scissors for cutting (for example, for cutting sheet metal) - they will tear and wrinkle strands during the processing. A quality clipper is razor-sharp and prevents hair from tearing.
  • Do not cut your dog under a clipper without a nozzle - there is a high risk of leaving irregularities that are difficult to remove even by a professional.
  • Entrust the first cut to a specialist. Thanks to the experience of dealing with pets, the master will form a calm, non-aggressive and healthy perception of grooming procedures in the dog at the reflex level, and the first hair cutting session in the dog's life will be short-lived.
  • Entrust the Maltese lapdog to a groomer who has previously worked with dogs of this breed.
