TV placement options in the bedroom
Each family in an apartment or house usually has several TVs at once: one in the kitchen-living room, another one in the bedroom. To save space, the TV is not only bought as thin and flat as possible, but also suspended higher in order to get rid of the need to use an additional stand that takes up extra square meters of the room area. Technology is now so advanced that hanging the monitor has become the norm.
Having bought a new TV model instead of a more massive obsolete one, first of all, they choose the height from the floor, at which the equipment should be installed.
The place of suspension, as well as the distance to the screen, should not harm your health when watching TV.
General installation guidelines
Watching TV is one of the traditional methods of leisure time. This is partly a kind of relaxation. And so that relaxation does not turn into overvoltage, each of the zones in an apartment or house has a specific height for the location of the TV. For the most accurate determination of the suspension height of the device, the basis of the calculation is the utmost comfort when viewing, most people prefer a lying position.
Televisions and monitors have gotten rid of the harmful electromagnetic background that they previously emitted for a decade and a half, and the frame rate of a dynamic image has increased so much that the human eye practically does not react to their change (previously, the "shake" of the screen was noticeable). This means that the device can be positioned two to four meters from the viewer's face - he will not notice the difference. But the ratio of the screen diagonal to the distance for the eyes should not be completely ignored.
Be sure to pay attention to the area of the room in which the TV will be located. Basically, ophthalmologists adhere to the following pattern: the distance from the screen to the eyes is equal to twice the length of the diagonal. Neither the size (width and height in pixels) of the TV picture, nor the type of monitor (LCD or plasma) matters. Basically, such calculations were taken for old devices that had harmful radiation (based on picture tubes).
To watch TV comfortably, follow these guidelines.
- The offset angle from the center axis from the center of the monitor to the viewer's face should be no more than 30 degrees. The fact is that the viewer subconsciously turns his head towards the monitor, no matter how inconvenient he is, and this entails the acquired curvature of the spine, which is significantly different from the physiological norm.
- The distance from the floor is at least one meter, this will help to avoid touching the display with your feet when passing by the TV.
- The outlet compartment or extension cord is located at least 45 cm from the tripod or brackets on which the device itself is suspended.
- The height of furniture and the distance from the wall and TV to the bed or bedroom set should not be less than a quarter of a meter.
- When choosing a bracket or tripod, the weight and dimensions of the product are the most important parameters. Too weak and thin a tripod is unlikely to withstand a large-sized plasma TV, and a fall and a strong impact on the floor can be fatal for the device. When choosing a suspension mount, follow the recommendations of your monitor manufacturer. The bracket should be quite friendly to the choice of the desired angle of rotation of the product; special clips can be located on it, often purchased together with a hinged shelf. These holders allow you to change the angle of rotation of the display. The most suitable gimbals contribute to the angle of rotation of the display in two dimensions at once.
- Check that the bracket is securely tightened from time to time - the bolts may spontaneously loosen over time.
- Do not buy a TV with a diagonal size of more than 1.5 m for small rooms, the area of which exceeds one and a half dozen "squares" - it will create difficulties when watching TV programs. Viewers will roll their eyes more and more actively, which will quickly lead to fatigue, headaches and completely kill people's interest in the subject being watched.
Where and how to place?
It is possible to calculate the appropriate value for the height of the monitor suspension both on the basis of people's opinions and on the recommendations of ophthalmologists and television equipment manufacturers. Both methods allow you to neglect the distance from the viewing position to the center of the display. However, this factor can negatively affect visual acuity.
From the experience of the users themselves
Lie down in your sleeping place and close your eyes. Open them - you immediately define for yourself the area that the gaze falls on immediately upon awakening. In the bedroom, the monitor is suspended higher from the floor than in the living room or kitchen.
On the advice of doctors and the manufacturer
Recommendations for this method of calculation are as follows.
- The center of the display is at eye level. Deviation from this angle can make the image visually distorted, which immediately leads to eye strain.
- If there are more modern monitors based on LED backlighting of the matrix, as well as support for stereo imaging in 3D format, the screen resolution is also taken into account - 720, 1080, 1440 and 1920 lines. Moreover, when you have good eyesight, you will clearly and in the smallest detail consider everything that is visible at the moment.
In the second case, the screen suspension height is calculated using the following formula. At 720-line video resolution, you will take the length of the diagonal multiplied by 2.3.For 1080 lines of resolution, the length of the diagonal is multiplied by 1.56. When determining the height, you should consider not only the distance from the center of the monitor to the face, but also the general variation in the distance from the TV mount to the viewing position.
To completely eliminate harm to vision and general health, you must move away from the monitor at a distance equal to 4 of its diagonals.
Universal way
Stand at your viewing point and make sure that the location you are looking for for the device does not give you any discomfort. Most experts believe that the TV is installed in a straight line. The number of rooms in a house or apartment is also important when choosing a place: in a one-room dwelling, the device is suspended diagonally from the center of the sofa or bed. In this case, the monitor will be visible from anywhere, wherever you stand. A TV is not a decoration, it is unlikely to replace a picture, it is not even an MMS photo frame. It is unlikely that it will be possible to decorate the room as a whole with a TV.
Why not hang too high?
Too low position of the TV will make the screen visually darker, too high - on the contrary, it will lighten it. Hanging the TV too high will make it more difficult to lower it during repairs in the event of a malfunction.
When using removable drives (memory card, flash drive, external USB drive), the height should not be too high to insert / remove these data drives, so as not to damage them or the connectors themselves.
Examples of the most economical placement
The monitor placement options are combined with the bedroom interior design and can be as follows.
- Near the window. It could be a table - at one end of the table.
- Position the bracket in the corner. The corner itself does not have to be adjacent to the window.
- Fixing the device in a niche is a classic option. Found in some old-style private houses and apartments (in "stalinkas").
- Decorate a TV set among the pictures. The device is hung on the wall using flat brackets.
- "Play" the space above the fireplace. It is not recommended to put the device on the fireplace itself - the latter can heat up significantly when the wood is burning. Better to use a hanging shelf or the familiar bracket hanger.
- On a mini wall. If the space in which the monitor is located is large enough, just put it there. In some cases, a wall or cabinet can contain its own, internal niche - the TV is suspended in it in the same way as if it were hanging on the wall, while it is considered not as a stand-alone, but as a built-in device.
- On the console... The latter is, as it were, a "stump" of a table with two legs - a stand that is shortened several times in comparison with a full-fledged table, resting on the wall, preventing it from falling. Its mount and legs are strong enough to support not only a TV, but even serve as a small computer desk.
- On the curbstone - that also is in no way inferior to either the console or a full-fledged table. Modern bedside tables are very reliable.
- If the bedroom window is very large - the device will not cause any interference if there are no curtains or curtains on the window.
