Bedroom floor: design options and flooring choices
A bedroom is a special room in every house, where its inhabitants spend most of their time. For good rest and relaxation, the atmosphere in such a space should be filled with peace and comfort, and the atmosphere should be distinguished by comfort and have pleasant tactile properties.
In shops you can find a variety of finishing materials that are suitable for a given space. In this article, we will look at the materials that can be selected for decorating the floor in the bedroom.
What should be the floor?
Before purchasing the material, you must familiarize yourself with the requirements that apply to it. The wrong coating can be unsuccessful to use and will not last long.
When making a choice, you should take into account a number of features.
- Environmental friendliness. The quality of materials cannot be neglected, because we spend most of the time in the bedroom.
- Comfort while walking. Pleasant tactile sensations after waking up will provide a good mood for the whole morning, and in the evening, after a hard day, will allow you to relax and relieve some of the fatigue.
- Appearance. The decoration should overlap with the design of the room.
- Ease of maintenance. Cleaning will be a pleasure, if not inconvenient, it will be done quickly. The chosen coating should be undemanding in care.
- Anti-slip surface. After sleeping until fully awakened, our body remains awkward, lethargic, so slipping is as easy as shelling pears (especially after taking a shower). The floor must be safe.
- Heat. After waking up, no one likes to touch the cold floor with their feet. In the cold season, you can spoil the mood for the whole day, because the coating must be warm.
Varieties of materials
Let's analyze the features of each of the floor coverings in turn.
Carpet
One of the most sought-after materials for a floor base is soft, warm, creating a cosiness in the space. He has the following positive qualities:
- soft and warm upper part - it is pleasant to move on the floor with such a finish;
- the pile can be either short or long;
- a variety of palettes and prints;
- good soundproofing qualities;
- ease of installation work.
Long pile carpets can be combined with different types of finishes, or they can only cover an area of the floor, for example, around the bed, so that it is pleasant to get up on it in the morning.
It also has disadvantages:
- carpet accumulates dust, this is noted by many consumers;
- due to the accumulation of dust, the need for cleaning increases significantly;
- for allergy sufferers, the coating may be contraindicated.
Modular carpet slab
In fact, this is an ordinary carpet, cut into separate elements with a reinforced base. The slab does not bend - it is dense. Some of the advantages of the material are presented below.
- Elementary installation. Working with small tiles is as easy as removing them.
- Ease of transportation.
- Profitability. After installation, no more than 5% of waste remains in any room, and for ordinary carpet this parameter can reach 20%. The problem is that the size of the roll often does not match the dimensions of the room. In the case of tiles, this will not be a problem.
- Environmental friendliness. The product does not release hazardous chemical components. The manufacturers assure that it is allowed to operate in high temperature conditions.
- Sound and heat insulation properties.
- Does not deform under the load of furniture.
- Using tiles of different colors, it is possible to create a suitable pattern.
The arguments against this product are the same as for carpet:
- the need for constant cleaning;
- abrasion of the material.
Solid board
One of the aesthetic, heat-intensive and natural coatings that add harmony and comfort to a room in classic or fanciful styles. Plank is mistaken for parquet. This product is made from natural wood.
The strengths are the following parameters:
- strength characteristics and durability - the coating can serve for about 50 years, it can be restored many times;
- excellent thermal insulation;
- chic design;
- ecological cleanliness and safety.
Not without flaws:
- not the most affordable price - this factor repels buyers;
- the installation procedure requires a lot of auxiliary materials and equipment, which is why the installation is also expensive;
- the material is exposed to temperature jumps and humidity;
- it is necessary to use protective solutions for the tree, otherwise after a couple of years it will begin to rot or may be eaten by parasites;
- the board must not be laid if a floor heating system is installed.
Solid wood boards are of 4 quality classes:
- the board of 4 and 3 classes is coarser and suitable for rough finishing or it will have to be painted;
- boards of class 2 and 1 can be used for fine finishing, it must be varnished.
Based on the loads on the floor, the type of wood is selected. Any wood can be used in the bedroom with a minimum load.
Parquet board
Unlike solid wood, parquet is not made from a single piece. This is a three-layer coating, where the first layer is responsible for the design and is an elite wood species. The larger such a layer, the more polishing it is really possible to carry out - accordingly, such a parquet in the end is more expensive. The other 2 layers are often made from softwood. All parts are glued together under high pressure, and the fibers are in opposite directions - this allows you to achieve good strength of the product.
Of the advantages, it can be noted:
- good appearance (suitable for expensive interiors), it is not always possible at first glance to distinguish a parquet board from a block parquet;
- environmental Safety;
- quick and not too complicated installation (especially in relation to massive boards and parquet);
- good, pleasant to the touch surface;
- soundproofing;
- low cost relative to block parquet;
- if you have such a parquet, you can make a warm floor.
The disadvantages of coverage are:
- thin top layer - scratches easily remain on it;
- afraid of moisture;
- restoration of the material is not always possible; if it is damaged, it will be necessary to replace the entire board.
Cork floor
A good choice for floor renovation. Main advantages:
- natural, environmentally friendly product, made from cork oak bark;
- cork is characterized by antibacterial properties;
- constantly warm, pleasant material, which also bounces while walking on its surface, which has a beneficial effect on the spine;
- due to its modest weight, installation is quite simple;
- the surface does not absorb dust accumulations and does not slip, easy to clean;
- has good sound and heat insulation;
- long service life - up to 20 years.
The minus of the floor is the soft top. If a sharp object falls on it, a deep mark may be left.
Laminate
An excellent and inexpensive option for decorating the floor in the bedroom. It is possible to regard it as the most economical and affordable analogue of a parquet board, which is much inferior to it in the materials used. This board was assembled from a certain number of different layers, the fundamental of which is fiberboard, under which moisture-resistant paper is used. The top layer is reinforced with a film that makes the coating even more moisture resistant. This is followed by decorative paper and a layer of melamine resins.
Positive parameters are:
- affordable price;
- the widest assortment of colors and patterns will allow you to choose exactly what you want to see in the room;
- high strength;
- tolerates temperature changes well;
- so easy to install that anyone can put it;
- resistant to scratches, especially if it is of high quality;
- quite a long service life.
Laminate is a cool finish. It is possible to make a warm floor under it, but it is not recommended. Pairs well with fluffy carpets. It is necessary to purchase the coating of high quality, from well-known manufacturers, otherwise the new finish after a short period of time will begin to warp and become unusable.
All types of laminate flooring do not like moisture, but in the bedroom this will not be a problem.
PVC linoleum
This material is known to many, and in today's apartments it is present almost everywhere. The base is polyvinyl chloride. The first white layer is a substrate that has low sound absorption properties. On the upper layer there is the possibility of applying any pattern with imitation of material, such as tiles, stone, marble.
Pros of coverage:
- elementary installation;
- there are characteristics of heat and sound insulation;
- hygiene and undemanding care;
- good strength properties, moisture tolerance;
- affordable price;
- a large assortment of prints and palettes.
Cons of the coating for use in the bedroom are not significant:
- leaving dark flats and marks from shoes, but in the bedroom almost no one walks around in shoes, so there should be no problems;
- it cracks from subzero temperatures and deforms from high temperatures - in bedrooms, as a rule, the temperature does not change much;
- after installation, an unpleasant smell may emanate from linoleum, but it will disappear in a couple of days.
Interior design ideas
In a muted room with peach walls, dark paintings and a light, soft bed, it is permissible to lay a dark chocolate parquet board.
Contemporary furnishings where white and black collide, perfect for a glossy black laminate flooring.
In a light room with the same light furniture made from natural materials, it is worth laying a milky carpet.
In a classic interior with a large bed, carved decorations, expensive furniture and intricate golden lamps, a dark natural wood floor covered with a large carpet will look gorgeous.
A pale ash-colored laminate covered with a large gray carpet will harmonize with a modern snow-white room with minimalistic furniture and light decorations.
