Linoleum is a cheap coating that does not require special installation experience, is durable and durable. In the modern market, you can find a huge number of various options for linoleum, differing in colors, composition, type and other parameters.
Positive and negative sides
In the bedroom, linoleum spreads infrequently. In most cases, the flooring is chosen depending on the purpose and design of the room.
Pros.
- Linoleum is a versatile material. It can be placed in any room, the main thing is that it fits into the interior.
- Special care is not necessary for him. This coating does not require the use of a vacuum cleaner. It can be wiped clean with a damp cloth and is water resistant.
- Durability. It is not necessary to walk carefully on linoleum. It can be stepped on both with slippers and winter boots. Even after a few years, it will not curl or stretch.
- This is an elastic product. Linoleum can take the form of any surface. This is especially useful if there is a need to cover the stairs with it.
- Today the market offers a huge assortment of goods for every taste.
- In the winter months, linoleum protects households from the cold.
Minuses.
- Cold outer layer. The inside of linoleum is usually insulated and does not let the cold through from below. However, if the room temperature is low, the floor surface will be constantly cold, which is not very comfortable.
- The color becomes dull over time.
- To lay linoleum, you will have to raise the baseboard. In large offices, mounting can be difficult. There shouldn't be any problems in the bedroom.
- Nothing can be spilled on linoleum except water.Drops of fat, greens, which will be very difficult to get rid of, can easily remain on it. The coating absorbs odors well. All these points are losing their relevance in the bedroom, but you need to know them when buying.
There are linoleum options that look like a laminate. They are considered to be inexpensive, but a quality replacement. Real laminate flooring has a high price, however, it will last much longer.
But linoleum can be changed if necessary. It can keep its good appearance for about 10-15 years. This period will be sufficient for any repair.
How to choose?
Before buying linoleum, be sure to take into account the points listed below.
- Purpose. There are commercial and household coatings. For a bedroom, it is recommended to opt for household models. If the budget allows, you can take a combined (semi-commercial) linoleum. Such a product can serve for more than 20 years.
- Maximum load. At home, you can use coatings even with the smallest permissible load indicators. And in the bedroom they go even less often compared to the rest of the rooms. On the negative side, it can be noted that in place of heavy furniture, a trace will remain from it.
- The coating should be antistatic, not afraid of water, not letting in cold, have a sound absorption function.
- Appearance. Linoleum should go well with the design of the room. The drawing can be very different - it can be a wood texture, a regular pattern or a 3D print.
High-quality linoleum is odorless or weak. If the product smells like chemicals, then it is better to look at other options. If you buy linoleum with a varnished effect, then it should be uniform. Greasy shine is unacceptable, it is the main sign of a poor-quality product.
The width of the cover should be 5-10 cm wider than required. If you have chosen a product with a 3D print, then the measurements will be made by the seller based on the dimensions of the bedroom. A hygienic certificate is required on the roll. The marking is marked on the inside of the product.
It is not difficult to verify the quality of the outer part of the product. To do this, roll out the linoleum 3-5 meters. The surface must be smooth, the presence of even minimal bumps or depressions is unacceptable. The pattern should not flake off, otherwise it will be impossible to align it.
To transport the product, you need to roll it into a roll. It is forbidden to fold it like paper. Bends cannot be smoothed out later. You can transport it only rolled up, and the side with the pattern must be inside, and the insulated part must be outside.
Any linoleum is treated with a protective substance. This coating is an additional layer applied over the design. Thanks to him, the product is not afraid of moisture.
Usually, a product looks a little different in a store window than it does in a room. Therefore, many sellers suggest that buyers take a small sample to compare houses, whether it is suitable for a given room design.
