Mixed breeds are dogs of mixed breeds - known all over the world. They are distinguished by their unique genes, colors, and excellent health. Almost all owners of representatives of this type will agree that mestizos are loyal and friendly. The word "mestizo" itself is translated as "mixture", "cross" and, as a rule, such dogs have pedigree parents, and the animals themselves combine the best features from both breeds.

English and american spaniels

It is from these two main breeds that wonderful mestizos come from.

According to rumors, the Phoenicians were the first to bring spaniels to Europe, and the animals themselves got this name from the word "spani", which translates as "rabbit". These dogs really do resemble a rabbit with their droopy ears. Only in England the breed was officially recognized, calling it "Cocker Spaniel". Subsequently, new varieties of breeds appeared, including the popular American spaniel. The original breed varied in both appearance and grooming.

The boy spaniel is a short dog, reaching 40 cm at the withers. Girls are even lower - do not exceed 38 cm. They do not particularly differ in weight - about 14 kg for both males and females. The color does not vary much: there is red, brown and black, as well as a cross of these three colors.

The Cocker Spaniel breed is very healthy, and such a muscular build requires excellent nutrition and long walks. At the very beginning of breeding, the dogs were supposed to be a hunting aid to help equestrians in collecting shot game from the ground. Therefore, already at the genetic level, these are strong, energetic and hardy dogs. Their game-grabbing skills are determined by the structure of the massive jaw.

The features of a hunter are visible in everything: a strong skeleton, all lines are sharp and angular, as if outlined. The eyes are oval in shape, with pigmented eyelids. The neck is always straight, posture is clear. And of course, the famous drooping ears, narrow at the base, widening to the bottom, rounded.

The US gave the breed a national flavor as soon as the spaniels arrived on the Land of Freedom. The American Mestizo Spaniel has a long coat, which they especially like to comb at exhibitions as much as possible, the eyes are no longer oval, but round, and the muzzle is short.

Most often the dogs are brown in color, but in the British they are black.

A cross between a labrador retriever and a spaniel

In such a cross, everyone immediately notes a long, angular nose. The ears are drooping, but close to the head, the wide tail tapers towards the tip and very much resembles marten's tails. The breed has a short and dense coat, pleasant to the touch, shimmering in the sun. There should not be any spots or shades, this fact means only the impurity of the breed.

Puppies of this breed love to play and indulge like mongrels, but from the first months the owner should see the poise and kindness of these dogs, their tenderness and loyalty. If you have a small child at home, it is highly discouraged to keep a cross between a staff and a Labrador, as this merger does not always bring results in the form of obedience and complete safety.

Spaniel and dachshund

This cross is called docker or doxy. Outwardly, they will very much resemble spaniels, but, of course, the body of the dachshund adds charm and uniqueness to the mestizo. The legs are also short from the dachshund. The color is almost always light brown, with a caramel sheen. Sometimes there are specks on the coat.

They are very active and lively dogs, they love quick games and exercises for reaction.

Spaniel and husky

In order to get a mixture of husky and cocker, only purebred parents are needed. In this case, the result will exceed all expectations, and you will get a great cross, which will have the best characteristics of a husky and a spaniel. The glossy coat of these representatives fits tightly and is combined with a black and white husky color. The dog will be obedient and loyal, and from the spaniel it will acquire the irreplaceable traits of a hunter. From both breeds, this mestizo took the friendliness and love for babies, as well as the absence of aggressive behavior.

A cross between a spaniel and a husky looks very similar, only sharper ears and a shorter coat are added.

Spaniel and beagle cross

Metis turns out to be very active, loves both hunting and swimming. This spaniel perfectly understands all commands, kind and not aggressive. The ears are drooping, the coat is glossy and snug against the body.

Over time, there are more and more mestizos, and it is no longer surprising to see crosses with drathaars, lapdogs, poodles and bloodhounds, but this only makes the breeds more unique.

Keeping puppies at home

Mestizo spaniels are always positive and playful, happy with their owners and small family members. They are very fond of communication and get along with almost everyone.

In grooming, you need to adhere to a few simple rules, and then the maintenance of such breeds will only bring joy.

  • The peculiar body structure of these puppies leads to frequent ear problems. - otitis media and hearing loss are not uncommon here, and therefore, careful care is needed behind the ears in order to avoid debate, scratching and swelling. It is necessary to constantly clean the auricles, wipe the ears with a cloth with a bactericidal solution or even just water, wiping dry. Wool must be constantly washed, combed diligently - this also applies to the ears, since falling hair can fall into the ears.
  • Dogs require frequent and long walks. Not all owners are ready for this. The musculature of these dogs requires sport, activity, constant movement and play.
  • Nutrition should be complete, vitamins and minerals are taken into account. You need to purchase a bowl for both food and water, which should be available at all times, because both the puppy and the adult pet are always active.
  • It is important to visit the veterinarian in a timely manner for routine examinations and vaccinations, since it is very important to control the hearing and vision of the animal.
  • The collar should not be tight, but the size of the neck, as often the dog from emotions can pull the leash and cause inconvenience to himself: choke himself and rub his neck.

But the most important thing is the constant display of attention and love for your pet.
