This type of furniture, like mini-walls, has been known for a long time. After the wave of their popularity, the time has come for large roomy wardrobes, but now, when minimalism is gaining momentum again, small modular walls are again "on top". And this is no coincidence, because the modules fit absolutely everything that a modern person needs.

Advantages and disadvantages

There are quite a few advantages in such furniture:

  • first of all, this is a very significant savings in space;
  • modular furniture visually adds volume to the room without cluttering it;
  • things are protected from unwanted mechanical impact;
  • modules are easy to use;
  • the structure is easily assembled and transformed - most modular walls can be assembled in different ways;
  • the mini-wall is functional, since you can select exactly those modules that are needed and make up the desired structure from them;
  • due to the small number of decor details, it fits perfectly into absolutely any interior style;
  • the presence of open shelves allows you to place beautiful books and original figurines, demonstrating the owner's taste.

There are also disadvantages.

  • Small capacity compared to items such as a wardrobe. However, very often seemingly small modular drawers and shelves can hold a fairly significant amount of things.
  • They are not suitable for storing large or oversized things - they simply cannot fit into modules.
  • Not suitable for placement in large rooms, as they get lost in them.

It should be noted that for owners of apartments with a large area, the purchase of mini-walls in most cases is not relevant, the issue of good capacity with a small volume worries those whose living rooms cannot boast of a large footage. Modular designs fit in there perfectly.

Species overview

The production of modular mini-walls is carried out by various manufacturers, that is why there are several different types of this furniture.

  • The most common model is "under the TV". Its central part is a niche for an LCD or plasma TV, where you can also install an audio system - including speakers, shelves and drawers for placing various things. Most of the wall is occupied by shelves.

Such models are simply called "slides" - because one of the parts is higher than the others, due to which the shape of the wall becomes non-standard.

  • Corner models - the most economical, ideal for small living rooms.
  • Modular models so called because they consist of separate segments that can be assembled in any order at the request of the owner. The segments are self-contained, such designs are quite simple to assemble and operate. In addition, they can be placed at some distance from each other.
  • A very interesting solution is the hinged mini-wall, all parts of which are bolted to the wall... This model looks very stylish, while cleaning under it is very simple - you don't need to move anything.
  • There are also wall models that include a wardrobe... This is very convenient in cases when the apartment is one-room, or there is no possibility of placing additional furniture for storing clothes.
  • Wall, which includes a computer desk, will be very convenient for people who need to allocate a working area in the living room.

Suitable for both a one-room apartment and a small two-room or more.

Equipment

    When purchasing or ordering a wall, you need to take into account the amount of free space that will be allocated for it. The dimensions of the furniture should be such that they do not interfere with movement, make it possible to close the doors and do not occupy more space than they should. The best place to place the wall is in a free corner or along an empty wall.

    Walls fall into two broad categories:

    • ready-made case models, changes to the design of which cannot be made;
    • modular options, the equipment of which depends entirely on the wishes of the buyer.

      Most often, a ready-made module directly includes a wall, hanging shelves, shelves or wardrobes, including a wardrobe. Corner modules provide for a large corner cabinet, in which large things can be conveniently placed, perhaps a design with a chest of drawers, for example, under a TV niche.

      The module is not always located directly on the wall. He may have L-shaped, U-shaped or just angular. For a square living room, the U-shaped wall shape will be ideal.

      Families with children will appreciate the hanging cabinets included in the wall design. They can be placed at the top along the wall, placing in them that part of the things that children do not want to see and touch. You can strengthen the structure with special locks that the child cannot open on his own. And do not exclude options for cabinets that can be locked with a key.

      Materials (edit)

      In addition to the configuration, attention should be paid to the material that was used for the production of the wall. There may be several options.

      • Furniture made of wood or glass - the most environmentally friendly, but also the most expensive. Most often, materials are used in combination with each other.
      • Particleboard and MDF are a budget option. The latter can be veneered or laminated. It is very convenient for these slabs to give different shapes, even fancy ones, by creating various designs.

      The choice of wood species used for the manufacture of furniture is quite wide - from beech and birch to larch and maple.

      One should be very careful when choosing chipboard, as it is the most toxic of all. If you nevertheless decide to choose furniture from this material, then you need to pay attention to the quality of the insulation of the joints and edges. And models from MDF are extremely flammable, which must also be taken into account.

      Design options

      Today, furniture walls (including in mini format) are produced in completely different style solutions. These range from classics to futurism.

      Of course the most common and demanded option is the classic design. Such walls will harmoniously complement both the modern interior in the hall and the old-fashioned one in a good way. The classic furniture is characterized by the natural color of the wood.

      Futuristic models - it is, as a rule, a combination of glass (often opaque, tinted), metal and wood. Typical colors - glossy black and white, metallic, chrome fittings. Forms can be any - from clear rectangular to fantasy-geometric.

      Style high tech differs from futuristic minimalism only in color - plastic in bright, neon tones as a facade is very often found in cabinet and modular furniture.

      For style baroque redundancy is characteristic in everything - from material to fittings, which is why the wall will have to be ordered. Ready-made options are either completely out of budget, or do not correspond to the style - after all, the redundancy and abundance of details does not mean bad taste.

      For fashionable scandinavian style the traditional rectangular shape of the wall and no less traditional snow-white shade are characteristic. The arrangement of cabinets and shelves does not have to be symmetrical.

      To the living room in style country Artificially aged furniture will fit perfectly, glass in which will have carvings and patterns.

      The most original models are copyright, issued in a limited number of copies. The authorship of the design can belong to both the manufacturer and the customer. It should be noted that such models will cost significantly more than standard factory ones.

      There are several models of furniture design that are enjoying well-deserved success with consumers. For example, for model "Grace" (manufacturer "Angstrem") is characterized by a simple, at the same time original minimalistic design. The lines are clear and strict, and the elements are extremely necessary. This model will perfectly complement both the living room and the office. At the same time, it is extremely spacious, easy to maintain, since it does not have open drawers and shelves.

      For model "Bjork" (manufacturer Hoff) a combination of two colors - white gloss and light oak is characteristic. The model combines open and closed spaces, there is also a module for storing dishes, it is equipped with a glass door. The model is equipped with a rather voluminous TV niche, despite the fact that the wall itself is quite compact.

      The same manufacturer made model "Florence", which has a completely different style and design. "Florence" is a modern retro style, equipped with carved details, curly fittings. The wall is completely not bulky, 1.6 m wide, but of sufficient height - 2.16 m. There are two color options - light and dark.

      For Ikea Brimnes the combination of modules is characteristic, the complete set can be made as you want. Straight lines and simple design are the hallmarks of the model. The color of the model is black. The undoubted advantages include holes in the rear panel for wires. And you can also choose the side of opening the doors, adjust the height of the shelves and the distance between them.

      Another Ikea model - "Besto", it allows its owner to create a design at his discretion - narrower, wider, low or high. This model, unlike the previous one, is made of white chipboard with tempered glass inserts.
