All about the emo subculture

The Emo subculture remains quite popular among adolescents, dictating the lifestyle of girls and guys, influencing their appearance and other aspects of personality and behavior. The history of the emergence of this youth style in the subculture in Russia dates back to the early 2000s, but in Europe and the United States, its first wave fell on the 80s of the XX century. Today a new generation of emo kid has grown up with their own preferences in makeup, clothes, music; its features are worth talking in more detail.

The emo youth subculture emerged in Europe and North America as an offshoot of the punk style in 1984, but its final formation took place only in 2000-2010. In contrast to the anarchy of punk, the desire to show emotion was chosen here. Openness to the world was expressed in the unwillingness to hide the bad mood caused by the difficulties of growing up.

In Russia, it appeared relatively recently - about 20 years ago. The generation of millennials, tired of the dullness and routine, happily tried on black clothes, bright accessories and piercings, choosing the path of self-expression through emotional openness. Over time, there was a division into tru-emo - those who strictly adhered to the unofficial set of rules, and people who just wanted to join the "get-together." Adherents of the "right" or true trend adhere to the concept of sXe. Given its features, the main characteristics of the subculture are the following.

1. Positive attitude towards life. Emotionality is not only tears, but also the ability to enjoy every day.
2. Striving to observe a certain moral and ethical etiquette. This includes honesty, loyalty in a relationship, a willingness not to suppress feelings, but to speak openly about them.
3. Healthy lifestyle. Despite the negative opinion of society, most of the real Emo are vegans or vegetarians, who also exclude the use of any stimulants from nicotine and alcohol to more dangerous substances. Representatives of the subculture are very careful about the environment and their own health.
4. Rejection of various forms of discrimination. Emo do not accept racism, ageism, other forms of oppression of a person because of his difference from others.
5. Spiritual growth and cleansing. Young people devote a lot of time to self-development, while denying any form of suppression of freedom. They themselves choose in which direction to direct their path.

Some external similarity often leads to the fact that representatives of the Emo subculture are confused with the Goths, who also prefer black outfits. Moreover, the reputation of representatives of this trend of youth culture is somewhat spoiled by numerous imitators. Despite this, Emo continues to delight the world with its brightness and openness, today much more freedom has appeared in this style, and the appearance of girls and boys more and more often evokes positive emotions with its uniqueness and uniqueness.

The typical emo image is almost identical for both boys and girls. The description of the style can be summarized as follows: laconic, bright, eye-catching. An obligatory element of the image is haircuts with an elongated beveled bangs that cover part of the face.

The presence of a manicure is also considered mandatory, and in both sexes. In addition, representatives of this subculture pay great attention to a variety of accessories and paraphernalia. Scarves, bracelets, bags, badges, soft toys are often used in their looks. Modification of one's own body can also be called a separate element of the style: for this, various types of piercings, “tunnels” in the ears, inherited from the more aggressive and harsh punk, are used. Hence the passion for spiked paraphernalia - from chokers to wristbands, bags, shoes.

Emo-style clothes are characterized by a narrowed, adjacent silhouette, both in female and male images. You can often find a combination of black background and pink prints. Typical garments are listed below.

• Skinny jeans. They are always tight-fitting, sometimes torn, most often black or inky blue. High waist, accent belt at the waist is welcome.

• Checkered and striped trousers. They also have a narrowed silhouette, they are usually sewn from a fairly dense material.

• Sweatshirts with contrasting sleeves. The monochromatic base is complemented by a stripe or a cage - they are present in the finishing of the sleeves.

• Checked shirts. Black and white or red and black colors are encouraged.

• T-shirts of the adjacent silhouette. Black and pink colors are considered canonical.

• Tutu skirts. This element is preferred by girls. In addition, wear contrasting neon pink or black leggings.

Emo shoes are not very diverse. First of all, these are sneakers, plain or in a cage, with an abundance of rivets and metal inserts. It is considered chic to wear multi-colored laces: acid green and pink, red and black.

The typical Emo hairstyle is a ragged hairstyle with an accent crown and long oblique bangs that fall over the eyes. Usually the parietal part is cut shorter, the lower strands are made elongated or reach the chin. When styling hair, preference is given to protruding strands in the form of "needles". The main color of the strands is black, but with the obligatory splash of pink, turquoise or ash "feathers". Sometimes colored elements are simply attached to a hair clip.

Girls welcome children's hairstyles in the spirit of anime heroines: tails on the sides, headbands with lush decor. Colored bows, hairpins and other unusual hair ornaments are actively used.

Manicure is an obligatory component of the complete image of any emo kid. Young people most often prefer monochromatic black varnish, sometimes complementing it with white patterns. Girls prefer more expressive solutions. Here you can find a spectacular jacket with a black mourning border on a pink background, and neon fuchsia. The nail design options with prints in the form of cartoon characters look interesting.

The nails are usually grown to medium length, making them square at the ends. Neat manicure is not necessary. Slightly smeared elements are allowed, you can paint your nails in different colors or make them in a box, a rhombus.

In their musical predilections, adolescents belonging to the Emo subculture are quite selective. The main stream is called emocor. It has its own subspecies.

1. Screamo. Music characterized by an abundance of screams during the performance of vocal parts. The melodies sound harsh enough.
2. French screamo. A softer version of the previous style, it is more melodic.
3. Hardcore San Diego. The canonical style, close to hard rock, originated in the United States in 1992.

Modern teenagers continue to listen to music created in a style that is close and understandable to them. Among the most notable groups of the past and present are My Chemical Romance, Tokyo Hotel - they raised Emo to the rank of pop culture, quickly gaining a multi-million army of fans.

Emo kids lead a special way of life. Such a teenager's room is often decorated in black and pink colors. Sometimes it's enough to add just a few interesting details. Bright carpet, accent wall in fuchsia shade with graffiti painting, black silk bedspread will allow teenagers to show their craving for self-expression without radical repairs. Emo kids themselves often transform a room with self-made collages, allowing them to express their attitude to the world through visual images.

The main activities of emo-kids are also quite consistent with their lifestyle. Teenagers love companies, communicate a lot within their subculture, arrange photo shoots and parties. Often they are passionate about extreme sports: skateboarding, rollerblading. Social media is also an important part of communication, and a passion for music is encouraged.

Emo are quite peaceful teenagers who tend to avoid open conflicts and clashes. The rejection of a vivid image by others makes them withdrawn within the framework of their subculture. But these teenagers often find themselves in volunteer work, caring for animals, or creativity.
