Scandinavian clothing style
Most of us, when he hears about Scandinavia, immediately recalls the harsh climate, strong people and a modest interior style. This region is very different from the rest of Europe and its features could not but affect the habits of local residents and their traditions. For these reasons, Scandinavian clothing is unlike other ethnic styles in Europe.
A bit of history
The style in question originated somewhere in the 18th century. According to historians, King Gustav III laid its foundations when he decorated his home. The monarch decided to make him as modest and simple as possible, which was unusual for royal persons.
This principle was transferred to clothes, which began to be made in this style long before that. For example, by the 16th century, the clothes of a representative of Scandinavia and any other part of Europe were significantly different. But the modern style of clothing finally took shape somewhere in the 30s. By the way, recently there has been a peak of interest in him.
Peculiarities
If we talk about the main features of this style, then they can be characterized by four principles:
- simplicity;
- brevity;
- comfort;
- use of natural materials.
The latter is not surprising, because it was natural materials that were chosen as the basis for the clothing of the northern peoples. They had to live in a difficult climate and needed to be mobile to work in such weather. All this led to the emergence of other principles described above.
A distinctive feature of Scandinavian-style clothing is the presence of an ethnic pattern. Of course, not every thing has it, but you can still often find deer or Christmas trees on clothes. Most often they are placed on golfs, hats, mittens, sweaters and so on.Moreover, the most important thing is that they are relevant both for children and women, and for men.
Another important feature of clothing in this style is layering. This is due to climatic conditions.
Another one that flows smoothly from the previous one is the simplicity of the cut. The more clothes a person has, the less sense there will be in creating all sorts of ruffles and hooks, because it will be harder to dress.
And as already mentioned, the important point is the use of natural fabrics. The most popular material for making clothes is wool. Even when creating things from knitwear, wool threads with the addition of elastane are also used. But in summer, cotton and linen are also in demand.
Color solutions
If we talk about the most popular colors, then it should be said that most often cold natural shades are used in this style. (shades of white, blue, black, brown, gray, beige and red).
An important feature is that the entire range mentioned should be matte. Using gloss and shine is simply unacceptable. All this speaks of a rather limited color palette. But it still allows designers to make things that are comfortable for both women and men. And let's add that the inhabitants of Scandinavia love light-colored clothes that have a dark pattern on them.
With what and what to wear?
If we talk about women's clothing in this style, then it is easy to recognize it, since it will certainly be decorated with ornaments and patterns. They can be found on any part of clothing - mittens, jumpers, mittens, socks, skirts, and so on. Also, clothes that use leather and fur will be very popular.... For example, leather clasps and fur trim.
Very often, girls wear cozy sweaters that have high collars and patterns. They pair wonderfully with denim clothing.
High knitted knee socks are extremely popular, as well as knitted cardigans.... They will look spectacular with long knitted skirts with an ornament. This look is very suitable for Scandinavian weather. A straight-cut dress with a striped cardigan will look great.
Also, voluminous scarves and tanned or fur vests and sheepskin coats are popular with Scandinavian girls. Vests look great with cotton or linen dresses. You can often find monochrome dresses in the girls' wardrobe.
It is important that girls have a lot of seemingly masculine things in their wardrobe: sweatshirts, T-shirts, shirts and trousers.
Hats in this style are presented with caps with ears, which are perfectly complemented by ornamented gloves or mittens, as well as voluminous chunky knitted scarves.
If we talk about shoes, the most common type is high fur boots. They are distinguished by their thermal insulation characteristics and convenience, because they are made of fur. Moreover, if earlier they used exclusively deer fur, today other types of it are also used.
Another type of footwear that is used, but not so often, is ugg boots.
They are in perfect harmony with the Scandinavian style, but boots are significantly inferior in popularity.
In addition, the inhabitants of Scandinavia actively wear boots with thick soles with lacing and boots with a knitted shaft. For warmer weather, flat-soled soft leather boots are used. They are usually made in brown or beige.
Knitted boots with deer or snowflakes ornaments are also used.
And instead of a bootleg, girls can wear knitted leggings. Heeled shoes can be used from time to time, as they go well with traditional clothing. Boots with heels or the most ordinary shoes with a suitable color scheme will be a great addition to any look.
According to stylists, the use of modern models of felt boots would be an excellent solution.
About accessories
It is best to choose jewelry made of so-called cold group metals, in particular, silver, for the described clothes.
Simple Scandinavian clothing will also go well with wooden or leather items. For example, leather pendants in the form of a talisman with tassels or large beads made of wood are an excellent solution for clothing with an ornament.
In general, it can be noted that the style does not require a large number of accessories, since bright ornaments, fur trim and everything else look great anyway and there is simply no need to focus on them.
Spectacular images
If we talk about spectacular images, then a sweater with a traditional ornament, suede ankle boots, a short sheepskin coat with a fur collar can become a beautiful combination. Leather gloves, a large fur hat, and a bag with fur trim will complement the created bow.
Another interesting look is a long sundress made of cotton or linen with a traditional ornament, which can be worn with open sandals.
With warm clothes, as already mentioned, jeans look great. You can take a sweater, a suede jacket, and boots made of the same material. A knitted scarf with an ornament and a bag will complement this image.
Quite bold is the combination of a long chiffon skirt and a voluminous sweater, or a dress with suede boots, or fur boots.
A more restrained look is a knitted solid color dress that will go well with a cardigan decorated with fur. Leather boots with heels and the same bag will look ideal with such a combination. From accessories to this look, you can also add a leather necklace or a silver necklace.
Also, interesting ideas include:
- a combination of knitted sweaters with thin chiffon skirts;
- symbiosis of a straight coat and a volumetric scarf;
- suede or leather vests trimmed with fur and fur shoes.
As you can see, the style in question has collected not only the identity of the culture of this region, but also made it possible to create an amazing combination of simple things that emphasized it. This is how he is - the Scandinavian style of clothing.
