One of the new trends that gained popularity among young people in 2019 was named soft girl, which can be translated as “gentle girl”. Despite the fact that some call the soft girl subculture, it is mainly still the style in clothes, makeup, hair and interior.

A soft girl in a broad sense means a "gentle" or "soft" girl. This means that she prefers to look cute and feminine, in addition, it is distinguished by impressionability and sensitivity. Soft girl chooses things in such a way as to create the image of a home girl, which is suitable both for walking with friends and for going to school. Most often, followers of this trend buy baggy T-shirts and sweaters with jeans, but do not deny themselves and skirts. Their favorite accessories include small backpacks, irregularly shaped sunglasses, hairpins and elastic bands for strands.

In fact, soft girl is synonymous with the state of femininity. One of the definitions of soft girl on the Urban Dictionary website also says that such a girl can easily cry over a movie, book or painting. "Gentle girls" adore calm pink and peach shades both in clothes and in makeup.

Their hair is usually dyed in pastel colors or is left natural. Soft girls look like modern fairies, animated characters from the Powerpuff Girls animated series... They often listen to the music of Billie Eilish, Lana Del Rey and Mac DeMarco, and do not deny themselves watching anime. Soft girls love Polaroids, a healthy lifestyle, Fjällräven backpacks, VSCO hair clips and filters on Instagram.

The soft girl movement originated on TikTok, but soon spread to other youth social networks - Instagram and Tumblr. Many girls had to ditch the more elaborate e-girl style and swap acidic bright tones for pastel shades. It was with these “transformational” videos that the new fashion began. It is believed that the origins of this trend lie in the emo subculture - after all, it was she who "invited" teenagers to start expressing their feelings and emotions without hesitation.

Influenced the style and musical direction of K-pop, originally from South Korea, whose representatives prefer feminine clothes and flashy outfits. There is also a kinship between soft girl and eastern kawai culture. It is worth adding that the new style appeared precisely in the spring, when TikTok members were striving for change. Both sexes wanted to be more vulnerable and kind, and also to feel gentle and joyful.

Becoming a soft girl is pretty easy. It is especially pleasant that the clothes and other attributes used in bows, in most cases, are even suitable for attending school.

Soft girl looks very feminine, but slightly childish. She dresses in both modern outfits and vintage clothing. The list of her basic clothes cannot be imagined without cropped tops (crop-tops) and pastel-colored T-shirts, “mom's” jeans, T-shirts and oversized sweaters. If the "gentle girl" prefers skirts, then most likely it will be T-shirts. In her wardrobe, you can also find a rainbow sweatshirt, a pink top with an image of angels, a jumpsuit or a voluminous hoodie.

A real soft girl will require all kinds of decorations: chains, elastic bands, hairpins, headbands and bandanas. They should correspond to the main color scheme, as well as be decorated with flowers, stars, hearts and butterflies. To form an everyday look, it will be enough to tie a rainbow bandana on your head or fasten as many hairpins as possible on your hair. Unusual glasses (for example, with colored glasses in the form of hearts), a fluffy backpack, a beret or a cute handbag can complement the image.

A casual look is usually completed with large snow-white sneakers or classic black school shoes. Teens wear short boots from Dr Martens, as well as shoes from Skechers DLites, Buffalo and Golf le Fleur.

Soft girl hair can be tinted in pastel pink or purple, or left in its natural color. The hairstyle can be anything: long straightened strands, and squares, and variations with bangs are allowed.

This option will be appropriate in any situation, but still retain its originality. First, blush is applied to the cheekbones, and the necessary glow to the face is given with the help of a highlighter. Further, both the lower and upper eyelids are covered with shadows, and short neat arrows are drawn with a pencil. Having lightly tinted the eyelashes, it remains to depict a cloud with the help of the liner, and simulate freckles with an eyebrow pencil.

The soft girl room should be very bright. It is better to just cover the walls with white paint or liquid wallpaper, because posters, drawings and all kinds of decor will still be located on top. However, pink and peach colors in this style will always come in handy. Furniture in the Scandinavian style, for example, from the Ikea brand, will look quite harmonious. This style pays a lot of attention to the decor - first of all, these are posters, pictures from Pinterest, polaroid images and other cute images on the walls. The image of a soft girl is most suitable for girls 12-16 years old, although it is not forbidden to use it at any other age.
