Summer is coming, many of us are thinking about updating our wardrobe. Buying a new bag is a tempting idea. But if you want something interesting and unusual, then a bag made using the macrame technique is perfect.

Peculiarities

Macrame bags have a very extravagant appearance. This is something to keep in mind if you are going to wear them. First of all, no matter how beautiful the woven bag is, it will not go with a business suit for wearing in the office or with a formal dress. You should not wear it in the cold season, as the threads are easy to let water through - the entire contents can get wet very quickly.

Macrame style is perfect for a boho dress or for a simple shorts and tee outfit.

Models

Macrame bags have many models, they can easily vary from your desire, because it is you who create them. Show your imagination!

We list the main possible options, which you can again change a little at your discretion.

Shopping bag

It is the simplest model. You probably remember something like that from your mothers or grandmothers. They prized shopping bags for their durability and reliability. You can carry groceries or books in it. Unlike a simple plastic bag, it won't break at the most inopportune moment.

It is easy to weave as you do not need to completely cover the surface of the bag with knots.

A little tip: don't forget to make wide handles. So the string bag will not hurt to dig into your hands.

Small

A handbag made using macrame technique will become a stylish addition to your look. All the little things that ladies need can easily fit there: keys, money, a mirror.

If weaved it from fine silk threads, then it will be neat and delicate. And if you want larger patterns, then you should choose thick threads from natural materials, for example, linen or cotton.

Big

Another great option would be a large macrame bag. Most often it is worn on the beach, and this is justified, because it is lightweight, it can fit a towel, sun cream and so on. Such a bag should not be made openwork; it is better to take thick threads.

Don't forget the pens! Calculate the length so that you can put the bag on your shoulder, and not just carry it in your hands. However, a handle that is too long will also not be comfortable.

What to wear with?

The macrame bag is very original and beautiful, there is a temptation to wear it, without taking it off, with all the outfits. However, don't do this, remember to combine styles! In no case should such a bag be worn with business suits or classic skirts. She will not suit elegant dresses either.

Take denim shorts, sandals and a light cotton blouse - a macrame bag will fit perfectly into such a bow. Such an outfit can be worn in the park or for a walk near the sea on a hot summer day.

Another option would be a light summer dress in country or boho style. Floral print or Indian cucumber patterns - the choice is yours. It will look more interesting if the color of the handbag overlaps with the color of the sundress or some of its details. If your skill in weaving macrame patterns is well developed, then you can independently make several bags for each outfit.

If you are going to wear a macrame bag not only in summer, but also in colder seasons, for example, in early autumn, you should think about more warmed outfits. Grab your favorite jeans or whatever (embroidered or painted designs are in fashion this season) and a cute sweater.

Handbag weaving workshop

Weaving a bag is not so easy. And those who at least once tried to weave something (especially the pots) will agree with this statement! Here's one of the easiest ways to create macrame.

First of all, let's look at the required materials:

  • Rope 3-4 millimeters thick and 100 meters long. Synthetics or jute are good materials.
  • Scissors.

First, do the preparation: you need 17 threads about four or five meters long each and one thread, which will be the base. It should be about half a meter longer than the rest of the threads. Fold the base in half and place on the table, securing it securely. Fold the remaining threads in half and secure at the base. This makes 36 ends (including the two ends of the folded base).

Distribute all ends of the threads into groups, each should have four. Then weave a mesh of square knots (don't be alarmed, in fact, these are simple doubles). The length and width can vary depending on your desire, but on average it is somewhere around 40-50 centimeters.

From the inside, strip the resulting net (knots are convex on the front side) and start weaving the "sides" of your bag.

Fold the resulting fabric in half, inside out. Cut three threads of four and a half meters. Where the threads are bent, fasten the ropes. There will be six threads for the sides.

Sew on three threads from the edge along a double knot. In another row, on four threads, make a triple knot (preferably flat) exactly in the middle. Fasten the outermost threads at the base and make two knots. So you need to weave to the very top of the bag. Weave the other side in the same way. This technique will allow you to firmly connect the sides.

The weaving of the sides at the end will go into the manufacture of parts for the future handle. Weave a handle (such that you can throw it over your shoulder), the pattern and technology can vary as you like.

Here is the simplest pattern of eight strands: twist the remaining two strands with six strands using the usual double knots.

Bag Clasp

Perhaps this part will be even more difficult than the main work. Choose which part will be the back and find the middle on it. Take 2 threads (20 and 40 centimeters), fasten at the top. A small thread is the basis, the other is a working one.Braid the warp with knots and cut off the end. Then fold the rope in half and attach the end.

Perform the button in the same way. Take the remaining threads, pin the left part to the surface of the bag and make a loop (the elongated part should be short on top). Secure it and create another one of the same and again short tip under the long one. Pass a long thread through all the loops and tighten the finished knot properly. As a result, there will be a large and massive part. Attach it to your bag. That's all!

There is also a second option.
