How to make a T-shirt out of a T-shirt?

Every girl loves to update her wardrobe from time to time, but there are not always free funds to buy things. Those who want to look stylish and diverse, without prejudice to the wallet, have long turned their eyes towards hand-made. Mastering the basics of needlework makes it possible to constantly get new things without spending too much money on them.

If you are not yet an experienced craftswoman, before starting to create things from scratch on your own, practice needlework by reworking old things. For example, try converting a worn T-shirt into a trendy T-shirt.

Your favorite T-shirt, which is a pity to throw away, but can no longer be worn, can be converted into an original T-shirt. This can be done in several different ways, each of which we will tell you in more detail below. The main thing is, do not be afraid to experiment, because you do not risk anything: in case of failure, you will just ruin the unnecessary thing, and if everything works out, you will get a new one.

In order to turn a simple T-shirt into a stylish T-shirt in a sporty style, we only need scissors and a few minutes of free time.

We do the following:

• Cut off the sleeves along the contour of the armhole.
• Cut off the bottom edge of the T-shirt - you should get a strip of fabric a couple of centimeters wide. You do not need to throw it away, you will need it for decoration.
• Next, we make deep sleeve armholes from the sides. Make sure they are the same shape and size. A few centimeters of fabric should remain between the armholes - in the center of the back.
• Now we need to complement our future T-shirt with a V-neck on the back. To do this, we deepen the neck a little and change its shape. The bottom corner of the triangle should be exactly between the side armholes.
• Let's get started with the decor. We take a strip of fabric cut from the bottom of the T-shirt and tie one end of it to the base of the cutout on the back (the top of the triangle). We wrap a small section of fabric between the armholes with this tape. We wind the tape tightly, first moving down, then up. We cut off the excess fabric, and for greater reliability, we fix our tourniquet with several stitches.

The most popular model of a T-shirt with a shallow round neckline and wide shoulder straps is popularly called the funny word "alcoholic". Despite such an impartial name, alcoholic T-shirts are loved by many women of fashion, primarily due to the fact that it effectively emphasizes the figure. We have compiled detailed instructions for you on how to make such a T-shirt from a regular T-shirt.

To begin with, we stock up on the necessary tools and materials, namely:

• a T-shirt, over which we will "conjure";
• an alcoholic T-shirt, which we will take as a standard;
• iron;
• crayon or washable felt-tip pen on fabric;
• set of safety pins;
• cutting scissors;
• needle and thread to match;
• sewing machine (optional).

• We iron the T-shirt and T-shirt well. We turn the T-shirt inside out, lay it out on a flat, hard surface and put the alcoholic T-shirt on it. We combine the lines of the shoulders on both products.
• We fix the T-shirt on the T-shirt using a few pins, then outline its contours. At the same time, we make sure that the shirt does not shift during work. We remove the shirt - we won't need it anymore.
• Now we cut off the excess fabric from the T-shirt in the area of ​​the sleeve armholes and the neck. You can also shorten the shirt by a few centimeters if you wish. If you plan to process the edges, do not forget to leave an allowance.
• Edging is optional, but it looks more neat with it. The cut edges should be tucked in about 1 cm and ironed well. Then we sew the edges by hand or with a sewing machine. The latter option is preferable, as the seams are faster, stronger and more accurate.

To make a minimalistic T-shirt-top out of a T-shirt, you can simply remove all unnecessary and sew on a pair of shoulder straps from scrap materials.

So, we arm ourselves with the same set of sewing accessories as in the previous master class, and proceed:

• We give our T-shirt the shape of a rectangle: cut off the sleeves and completely cut off the top, grabbing the neckline. If necessary, we deepen the sleeve armholes.
• We process the cut of the top edge of the T-shirt on the hands or using a sewing machine. We make the hem wider than usual and do not sew it along the edges - we will then insert the straps into it.
• Cut the hem seam from the cut off sleeves. Cut the fabric so that you get two narrow strips.
• We pass the strips of fabric through the folded top of the T-shirt: one strip from the chest side, the other from the back. Sew the ends of the strips together and hide the seams in the hem.

Clothes decorated with inserts from other materials always look spectacular and unusual. This technique can be used if the T-shirt to be reworked does not fit your size - the inserts on the sides will make the product 10-20 cm wider.

In addition to the usual tools and materials, for this we need a long strip of lace or other decorative braid.

• Cut off the sleeves of the T-shirt completely and unpick the side seams (or you can just cut them off).
• We measure the length of the T-shirt from shoulder to hem, multiply the resulting number by two. Cut off two strips of braid of the appropriate length, adding a couple of centimeters to the stock.
• Sew the tape to the edges of the T-shirt. Then we determine the width of the sleeve armhole and mark with a pin the place where it ends.Sew together strips of braid to the mark.

In clothing stores, you probably paid attention to the models of T-shirts with a back woven from many strings. If you like this kind of decor, then you can easily repeat it at home, because it is not difficult to weave several braids from scraps of fabric.

Here's a quick guide on how to do it:

• Turn the T-shirt inside out and draw a straight line on the back from the neckline to the middle of the back. The line should be exactly centered. Then we retreat from this line one centimeter to the right and left and draw two arcs going into the side seams.
• We make two cuts along the contours of the arcs. We cut the central part into three longitudinal strips. Lateral - three transverse, then each of them three more. Excess fabric can be removed to create a more open back.
• We begin to weave pigtails. You should have one vertical braid in the center and three horizontal braids on each side. If you wish, you can make the same pigtails in the front - they will serve as straps.
• Sew the braids together with threads to match the fabric. Sew the central braid to the straps or to the neckline.

After making a T-shirt from an old T-shirt, you can decorate it to your liking. There are a lot of ways to decorate such products, and for the implementation of most of them you only need materials at hand. For example, you can form a bow on the back from scraps of fabric.

• We turn the shirt inside out, lay it out on the table and draw on the back the outlines of a new cutout in the shape of the Latin letter U. The depth of the cutout depends on what size we want to make the bow.
• We make a cut along the contour. Fold the piece of fabric across and cut it in half. From the rectangular part we will form a bow, and from the other you need to cut a thin strip - you will need it to fix the bow.
• We collect the rectangle of fabric in an accordion, fix it in the center with threads and wrap it in the middle with a strip.
• Sew the bow to the top of the back cutout. For convenience, you can first manually sweep the seams or pin the edges with pins and then sew on a typewriter.

• Jerseys and T-shirts are great because you don't need to cut the edges. The knitwear does not drip, but over time it is neatly twisted. Such a wrapped edge looks quite aesthetically pleasing.
• In addition to a T-shirt, there are many other things you can make out of an old T-shirt. A long T-shirt for men can be turned into a home or beach dress. If you cut bright children's T-shirts into ribbons, they can be used to weave necklaces, bracelets and hair ornaments. You can also turn your unwanted T-shirt into a roomy grocery bag or an original snood scarf.

Women's T-shirt is a versatile and very convenient option for everyday wear. You can combine it with a huge number of things - jeans, shorts, skirts and trousers of different styles. Jackets, cardigans, windbreakers, hoodies, sweaters are worn over T-shirts - almost any of the varieties of outerwear will do.

Choosing a pair of shoes along with a T-shirt is also not difficult: a practical T-shirt goes well with both graceful shoes and massive sneakers with a tractor sole.
