Materials (edit)

The amount of materials used for sewing ball gowns is large. In this regard, the modern market is convenient for both sewing masters and the dancers themselves. However, the main materials used in the manufacture of products can be distinguished.

  • Supplex... It is a synthetic knitted fiber. May include lycra, nylon, elastane, microfiber, lurex. Stretches well, is lightweight.
  • Butter... This is a soft jersey. It is one of the favorite materials for sewing dresses. Consists of viscose, polyester, lycra. The fabric is elastic, durable, resistant, practically does not wrinkle.
  • Meryl... It is a knitted fabric that is woven using microfibers. The fabric is soft, smooth, allows air to pass through, allowing the body to breathe, absorbs moisture, but is able to evaporate it immediately.
  • Guipure... It is a fabric with a lace ornament, the basis of which is a flesh-colored mesh. It is often used as a decoration for various dresses. It is a favorite fabric used to decorate ball gowns. The fabric, despite the presence of lace and mesh, is durable.
  • Chiffon... Sometimes it is made from silk, sometimes from cotton. It is a light, airy, transparent fabric. It has a significant disadvantage - it breaks easily.

Satin, organza can be used as inserts. In rare cases, velvet can be used for sewing a dress.

Nuances of choice

There are several criteria to be guided by when choosing a dance form, and some nuances that need to be taken into account.

  • Comfort... It is best to try on clothes before purchasing. The form should not hinder movement (you need to check whether you can freely raise your arms, bend over, perform other movements).
  • The quality of the fabric. Clothing should be tight but comfortable. The fabric should stretch freely, be breathable, absorb moisture and dry quickly. The fabric must be durable. The uniform is washed almost every week, so the fabric must withstand washing: not tear or lose color or shape.
  • The size... It must be selected as accurately as possible. The shape doesn't have to be big or small.
  • Appearance. When choosing clothes for dancing, you need to focus on the appearance, which is also a part of success. The dress or costume must be of high quality, and also look harmonious on the dancer.
  • For training it is best to choose models from fabrics, consisting mostly of cotton (up to 80%). Such items are not suitable for performances.
  • Price... This is the very rare case when spending on an expensive form (especially for training) is unnecessary. Oftentimes, good models can be purchased at an affordable price from an online store.
