The holiday is an integral part of every home and family. During the preparation for the celebration of any celebration, be it a birthday or New Year, each hostess strives for excellence in absolutely everything. It is very important that the table is set correctly, in accordance with all serving rules, the food is tasty and warm at the time of serving.

Serving dishes on the table is carried out using various dishes - plates, trays and other containers. Today, the use of special plates with lids has become very popular. In this article, we'll talk specifically about cloaches (rams), special lids, how to choose them correctly and when and for what dishes you can use them.

Ram or klosh concept

This is a plate lid used during table setting. It resembles a hemisphere in appearance. It is very common to observe how restaurants serve dishes under such a cloche, but today this attribute is not uncommon in home cooking. Its main purpose is to serve hot snacks beautifully on the table, while maintaining the temperature of the dish and preventing chapping. The ram also makes it possible to keep the dish intact for a long time. The dish is simply covered with a lid and removed at the right time.

There are kits on sale, the components of which are a plate and a cloche. Also, the covers can be purchased separately or on a wooden stand. They can be very diverse both in shape and in material of manufacture.

Attribute selection criteria

When choosing a ram (cloche), you need to take into account various factors that are fundamental and exclude the possibility of making a mistake when buying. Let's take a closer look at the selection criteria. When buying, you should consider certain parameters.

  • The diameter and shape of the product should be chosen, taking into account the purpose of the ram. It can be used to serve a common hot meal and serve a separate plate of food to each guest. Experts in table setting argue that in the first case, it is necessary to take a cloche of at least 24 centimeters, and in the second, a diameter of 9-22 cm is sufficient. Separate attention should be paid to the shape of the ram. It can be round or oval. The shape of the product depends on the type of snacks served on the table. It is good to present vegetable and meat dishes under a round ram, but an oval ram is suitable for fish and poultry. For serving ready meals in portions, a round cloche is most often used.
  • The height of the ram. This is another fairly weighty criterion on which the amount of condensate that can accumulate under the lid depends. The taller the food, the more likely it is that condensation drops will not get onto the dish. Tall cloche can be used for hot meals
  • The presence of a handle. The ram must have a handle with which you can cover the dish. It is made from thermal insulation materials such as heat-resistant plastic or metal alloy. This ensures that the handle will not heat up. The most preferable option is a metal handle, it is more comfortable and durable, often they are also made decorative.
  • The material from which the cloche is made. In most cases, the covers are made of metal, but other materials can be used.

So, on sale there are rams made of stainless steel, polished or matte. A stainless steel ram has a number of advantages:

  • resistant to temperature changes;
  • does not need special care;
  • durable;
  • lasting;
  • lightweight and practical;
  • resistant to various influences - chemical and mechanical.

This metal cover has no particular drawbacks. The only thing worth noting: after washing, be sure to wipe it thoroughly dry with a rag so that there are no streaks and stains on the surface.

Bronze ram most often comes on sale complete with a plate, it looks like a hemispherical cap. Silver cloche - this is quite an expensive pleasure. In most cases, the outer surface of the silver cover is decorated with stones, relief, and blackening.

Porcelain - heavy and massive lid, which has the property of keeping warm for a long time. A ram made of high quality porcelain is very reliable and durable. When choosing such a product, you need to pay attention to the smoothness and integrity of the surface.

Polycarbonate - an inexpensive material, so products from it can be purchased at a budget price for everyday use at home. The main advantage of plastic is that it can be used in a microwave oven.

Glass cloche great for desserts. Transparent walls make it possible to see the dish well. For the manufacture of this type of hood, tempered glass can be used, which is characterized by strength and resistance to high temperatures.

Serving dishes

Closhes are used during the serving and serving of the second course and cold snacks. Most often, under the ram you can see:

  • meat and poultry;
  • a whole carcass of chicken, partridge or duck;
  • shashlik;
  • vegetables;
  • casserole;
  • jellied pie;
  • souffle.

In addition to the above dishes, you can serve almost anything that can be put on a flat plate and covered with a cap. Tall rams can be used for cake and cookies. There are small ones that fit easily even in the refrigerator.

Serving dishes covered with cloche looks nice and presentable, and the main bonus: the food underneath is fresh, not windy and, if required, hot.
