The boar can often be seen on male tattoos. The image of this animal is interpreted in two ways and not always in a positive way. Read about what such a tattoo means below.

The meaning of a tattoo

The wild boar, or wild boar, is an artiodactyl mammal that is the distant ancestor of the domestic pig. This animal lives mainly in tropical places, but sometimes it is found in coniferous forests and semi-deserts. Often he becomes the head of a whole herd of wild pigs due to his special strength, power and fearlessness. In ancient times, in particular, on the territory of Northern Europe, the image of this animal in people was associated with strength, arrogance, bravery and aggression. There he was considered a symbol of warriors. An angry boar caused fear in many, but at the same time respect and admiration. In America, the image of the boar symbolized leadership qualities, reliability, pursuit of goals, responsibility and loyalty. Christians, on the other hand, attributed not the best qualities to this image, including cruelty, anger and lust.

This animal was treated with special respect in Iran and Japan. There, this animal had a sacred meaning, in Iran it symbolized the sun, and in Japan, on the contrary, the moon. In China, where animals are usually not divided into wild and domestic, the image of a boar symbolizes battle, wars, sacrifice. In ancient Greece, the boar was considered a worthy opponent for hunters. There he symbolized destructiveness, cruelty and strength in battles.

For this reason, this creature can be found in Greek mythology. There it was called only the Erimanthian boar, frightened everyone with its dimensions and was a monstrous rival of Hercules, the son of Zeus and Alcmene.

It is interesting that in Egyptian mythology the image of a boar is also present. There he became an adversary for the god Horus, which, according to legend, united Upper and Lower Egypt. According to the legends, God Set, the uncle of Horus, who patronized the desert and chaos, turned into a black boar. It was in this guise that he tore out his nephew's eyes. An animal such as the wild boar was of particular importance in the culture of the Celts. There he was considered a symbol of spiritual power. For this reason, wild boar meat was often eaten during various rituals, and was also placed in the graves of killed people.

In Indian culture, this animal is also highly respected. Many believed that Vishnu, the supreme deity in Vishnuism, who guards the universe, under the name of Varaha, took the form of a wild boar, lifted the earth with his powerful fangs and pulled it out of the water. In general, for the most part, the image of the boar is interpreted as positive. Many consider him to be the most real protector who symbolizes fertility, financial well-being, military prowess.

Tattoos depicting this animal are applied mainly by men who want to emphasize their strength, power, determination and ability to protect themselves. On girls' bodies, such images can be seen extremely rarely.

Types of drawings

The tattoo, which captures the image of the boar, can be made in different styles. Men tend to prefer realism. Such drawings can be either monochrome or colored. They are characterized by a high degree of detail, due to which the wearable image as a result turns out to be more vivid and naturalistic, which is admirable for most people. However, it is quite difficult to make a high-quality tattoo in such a style solution, especially if there are many additional compositional elements in it, and therefore not every master decides to take on such work. Stylish solutions such as old school and new cheekbones will also be very appropriate for wearable designs. Such images are distinguished by their brightness and colorfulness, and therefore they look impressive on the body.

A boar tattoo, which is made in the style of minimalism, can also be found, but not so often. Watercolors are less popular among style solutions here. Drawings made in this style are distinguished by their softness, brightness and soft transitions between shades. Such images look as if they were painted with real watercolors. However, few men give preference to this style solution.

Stylized images of such an animal can also be present on tattoos. They are usually quite comical. Such tattoos are applied mainly by those people who have a developed imagination and a good sense of humor.

Boar tattoos can differ not only in style, but also in the plot component.

  • Most often, in body drawings, the boar is depicted as an independent image. In this case, the image may contain both the whole wild boar and only its muzzle. In the latter case, such a wearable image can also be considered as a talisman.
  • The interpretation of such tattoos for the most part will depend on the mood in which the animal depicted in the picture is. If it is angry and furious, then in this case, the tattoo, for obvious reasons, symbolizes aggression, cruelty, and readiness to engage in battle with the offender. Often, various plot elements are added to such drawings, including weapons and various inscriptions that emphasize the aggressive message of the tattoo.
  • If the image of the boar is presented in a comical form, then the meaning of such a body pattern will be appropriate. Such a tattoo will symbolize inner strength, but at the same time a positive outlook on the world, a good sense of humor and a free attitude towards life. Such drawings can also be supplemented with all sorts of inscriptions and other plot elements, including glasses, chains and other items.
  • Sometimes there are images of wild boars, in which different ethnic patterns prevail. You can rarely see such tattoos. In this case, patterns can be applied purely for the sake of aesthetics, or they can carry a certain message - it only depends on the owner of the tattoo.

Where to apply?

The boar tattoo can be applied to any part of the body. It only depends on the preferences of the owner of the future tattoo and its scale. The most successful place is considered to be the shoulder and forearm. This is explained by the fact that in ancient times the image of a wild boar was applied to these parts of the body in order to ensure good hunting and prey. Nowadays, boar tattoos are often applied to the back, chest, side and rib.

If the tattoo is small, then it can be placed on the wrist, neck or leg.
