The white Yorkshire Terrier is not considered a purebred representative of the breed, but it has its own admirers. In general, Yorkies are considered smart and cheerful dogs, very attached to their owners and curious. What is the difference between exactly white individuals, and what are the pros and cons of such puppies, we will talk in our article.

History of appearance

Initially, this type of terrier was recognized as a marriage. However, the breeders could not help but appreciate the external attractiveness of such dogs, due to which a new subspecies appeared. He was named Beaver York in part of his founder, who devoted a significant part of his time to this issue, - Werner Beaver.

He started breeding white Yorkies back in 1984, and already 5 years later the breed was recognized by dog handlers and dog breeders. The appearance of the first beavers was very exotic. They were white in color with black and golden stripes. Such dogs were brought to our country in 2007.

Advantages and disadvantages

Like every breed, White Yorkies have their own pros and cons. Let's consider them in more detail.

Pros.

  • Dog breeders note the high intelligence of such dogs. There are usually no problems with their training. Yorkies need the attention of the owner, they will be happy to demonstrate their abilities. They are great friends for young children and love to play with them. However, very little kids can injure a delicate dog, so you need to be careful.
  • Despite their diminutive size, Yorkies are brave enough. In case of danger, they are able to engage in a fight even with a dog significantly superior in size, but such moments should be tried to be eliminated. They will be great companions for people with an active lifestyle, as they love to walk. They are good guards and have a loud voice, alert and have excellent hearing.
  • These pets can be considered pets by people with allergic reactions. They do not have an undercoat and do not provoke allergies.

They are very good travel companions, as they are very compact and easily fit in a small bag or on your hands.

Minuses.

  • Some representatives of the breed do not differ in exemplary behavior, they may be naughty and do not respond to commands. The animal is quite capricious and sometimes even capricious. However, these moments can be stopped by proper upbringing.
  • Yorkies are not very good at getting along with other pets. They often don't like guests. Are hostile to other dogs if they are on a walk, regardless of the difference in size. They can bite if hurt, even through negligence.
  • Such dogs are often intrusive and require increased attention. Nutritional problems may arise as certain foods are prohibited for Yorkshire Terriers.

Clothing is required so that the dog does not freeze in the cold season.

Peculiarities

Yorkies are one of the smallest dogs in the world. Their weight can reach as little as 3 kilograms. There are no growth standards, the maximum figure is 28 centimeters, and the average is about 17 centimeters. It is characteristic of this breed that girls are slightly larger than boys. Dogs have a rather long coat that falls on the sides. The parting starts at the nose and ends at the tail. Yorkies have erect ears, their eyes and a black nose.

Dogs are very playful and mobile, so they have good health.... The average life expectancy is from 13 to 16 years, but with adequate and competent care, this figure can increase to 20 years. Typically, white Yorkies have a yellowish tint that fades over time. Dogs change color after 4 months, becoming a little lighter by six months, and by a year they may even have a silvery tint.

How to choose a puppy

When choosing a White Yorkie puppy, there are a few basic things to consider. Even a cheerful and playful baby can have pathologies. It is necessary to assess the quality of the coat and appearance, check the ears and mouth. An unpleasant smell coming from a dog, from its mouth or ears, indicates that there may be serious problems.

A wet and cold nose is one of the indicators of health... The coat should shine and shimmer, there should be no discharge in the eyes. Despite the fact that a white york is chosen, the eyes should still remain dark.

Care

When purchasing such a dog, it must be borne in mind that the pet is decorative. This means that he will need competent care. Only in this case a healthy and active dog will grow from a funny puppy.

  • Water procedures will need to be carried out approximately once every 1.5 weeks. During them, you need to be careful and make sure that no water gets into the ears of the animal, otherwise it can lead to inflammation. It is recommended to use special shampoos and conditioners for wool. Washing the paws should be done every time after the pet has returned from a walk.
  • As for grooming the coat, an adult dog needs to be brushed 2 times daily, and this is done when the coat is completely dry. Initially, you need to use a massage brush, which is eventually replaced by special combs with small teeth. If there is no time for full-fledged care, it is better to just cut your pet's hair shorter.
  • Ears are one of the weak points of this breed, so they need to be examined and cleaned weekly. Cleaning is carried out with a cotton swab, after which the delicate skin is treated with lotion. You can use special drops. The main indicator that the ears need cleaning will be itching in the animal and scratching of the disturbing areas.
  • Also, do not forget to trim your pet's claws. This procedure is done 2 times a month, since you can cut off no more than 1 millimeter. The haircut is carried out very carefully, as there is a chance to injure the Yorkie.
  • In addition, the animal will need timely vaccination. With its help, you can save your pet from many dangerous diseases. Vaccinations are given on a special schedule that needs to be discussed with your veterinarian.
  • Another important point in caring for a Yorkshire terrier is walking it. At first, it does not require much time; it is enough for babies to spend 15 minutes in the fresh air a day. For older individuals, this period increases. How many times to take the pet outside, each owner decides for himself, it will be optimal to do this in the morning and in the evening.
  • As for the diet, puppies aged 3 to 6 months need to eat 4 times a day. From 6 months to a year, this figure is reduced to 3 times. After 12 months, the Yorkie should not be fed more than 2 times a day. For nutrition, they choose premium-class dry food, supplementing them with wet, but also of high quality, sometimes they give delicacies in the form of pates. If you want to feed your dog with natural products, you will have to cook it separately and make sure that the food is balanced. In each individual case, the veterinarian will help to draw up the correct menu.

But in general, it should be lean meat and sea fish without bones, cereals, stewed vegetables, eggs and dairy products can be given once a week. The dog should always have clean water in the bowl.
