If the thermos has ceased to retain heat, then this indicates certain malfunctions in its operation. When this breakdown touches a new thermos, it is more likely indicative of a factory defect. But if the device does not retain heat after a certain time of use, then the breakdown has already occurred during operation. Depending on the nature of the malfunction, you can try to correct the situation using different methods.

Main reasons

There are three main reasons for a thermos to stop holding the temperature inside itself. The first problem concerns glassware. The fact is that such devices always have a silver coating. It is located on the surface of the inner balloon. This reason applies to new thermoses, since such a malfunction is characteristic of a factory defect.

And also the problem may be a problem with the plug and in the absence of a vacuum. These malfunctions can be either factory or acquired during operation. That is why they should be dealt with in more detail.

Inner and outer flask

It's no secret that a thermos - it is a very fragile structure, therefore, it should be handled as carefully as possible. So, even with minor mechanical damage, deformations and cracks can form on the surface of both the inner and the outer balloon. It is they who will become in the future the reason that the thermos does not keep the temperature.

Each thermos has two bottoms: an external and an internal one. On the inner side there is a thin copper tube through which air is pumped out of the cavity at the factory.If for some reason a failure occurs in this process, then, regardless of the material of the dishes (glass, steel, stainless steel), it will cease to retain heat.

It is very easy to check for such a breakdown. It is enough to pour hot water into a glass or iron thermos. If the surface of the device itself begins to heat up, and the boiling water slowly cools, then the problem lies precisely in the absence of a vacuum.

Lids

The reason that the thermos does not keep the temperature well can be a malfunction of both the cork and the outer lid (often used instead of a glass). Breakage of the latter can occur due to mechanical damage, for example, by falling. Cracks and deformations can form on its surface.

If the inner plug is tightened too much, then after a while it is also possible that it will be deformed, or cracks will form on it.... This applies not only to glass thermoses, but also to metal ones.

What to do?

If the thermos has ceased to maintain the temperature, do not despair and rush to throw it away. Some breakdowns can be easily repaired. So, if it turned out that the cause of the defect lies precisely in the cork, you can choose the right one. You can buy an old thermos from your hands. Often people give them away for purely symbolic value.

You can also try to make the plug more airtight. To do this, you will need to use a special sealing tape or electrical tape. When resorting to this method, it is important to remember that the repair will not be long-term.

If the thermos stops working in the desired mode due to lack of vacuumthen this breakdown can hardly be repaired by yourself. But on the other hand, with such a problem, you can turn to the masters who are engaged in the repair of refrigerators. There, a specialist with the help of special equipment will be able to pump out excess air through a copper tube, and its end will be securely soldered.

An important point! To return the thermos to its previous performance, you should not resort to using superglue and other similar compounds (for sealing cracks). They are potentially hazardous chemicals.

Even if it was not possible to repair the thermos, you still should not despair. You can use it for products that do not require heat retention, for example, for iced tea or compote.

Prevention measures

As already mentioned, the problem of preserving heat can be encountered both with a new and with a thermos that has already been in operation. In order not to purchase a thermos with a breakdown, you must carefully check it during the purchase process. The check consists of several stages.

  1. The thermos must be carefully inspected from all sides. Particular attention must be paid to the tight fit of the plug and cap to the main body. When twisting and unwinding, it should not emit any extraneous sounds.

  2. Oddly enough, the thermos must be sniffed. Poor quality cookware will give off an unpleasant odor.

  3. The material from which the dishes are made must be visually and to the touch durable. It is best to refuse to buy a low-quality product.

  4. It is noteworthy that thermoses with a tempered glass flask are rightfully considered the highest quality and durable... But in the process of choosing such a device, it is very important to pay attention to the silver coating, which in this case is necessarily present. If it is of poor quality, then such a thermos will initially not keep the temperature properly.

  5. If possible, you can pour some hot water into a thermos and see how the device will cope with the main task (keeping the temperature).

Choosing a good and high quality thermos is not enough. Since the design of this type of dish is rather fragile, it must be treated as carefully as possible during operation.

Before filling a container with hot liquid, it must be prepared. The preliminary preparation process is simple:

  • a small amount of hot water must be poured into the container and left for 5-10 minutes;

  • then the water must be gently shaken and poured;

  • now you can fill in the main liquid.

This procedure is necessary to warm up the seams that are available in each thermos. And also the preliminary heating of the surface will save you from a sharp temperature drop, which also has a detrimental effect on the operation of the device.

During operation, it is necessary to minimize any mechanical damage not only in relation to glass, but also metal dishes... Of course, the iron thermos will not break, but cracks can form in the seams. Even slight deformation can cause a vacuum to break. With such damage, the work of the thermos will be completely disrupted.

An important point! It is highly discouraged to purchase a thermos hand-held or in questionable places (metro, small kiosks). In such outlets, the chance to purchase poor quality goods increases several times.

Nobody is insured from factory defects. But if you follow the recommendations for choosing, you can buy a completely high-quality thermos that will properly serve for more than one year. In the buying process, it is important to focus on both the appearance and the manufacturer. Better to abandon cheap options for dubious production. In order for the thermos to serve for a long time, you should not save on it.

Even if you are lucky to purchase a product of proper quality, it is important to treat it with care during operation. Do not drop or apply any mechanical damage to the dishes. The plug must be tightened moderately. Excessive twisting can lead to subsequent deformation. If you follow all the rules and recommendations, then the thermos will not have to be repaired.
