Modern stores of textiles and sewing accessories offer a huge selection of fabrics. Even more varieties of canvas can be found online and ordered directly from factories or suppliers. Nevertheless, school uniforms and the lion's share of business suits for several decades have continued to be sewn from one type of material - the tiara. About what makes this fabric special, why it sits well and retains heat, as well as many other interesting facts, read the article below.

What is it and what is it made of?

Tiare is a blended fabric. It has an average density and relatively good hygienic characteristics. In special catalogs, you can find a description of the tiara as a canvas with a smooth, soft and even surface. Usually the fabric itself is matte and without shine.

Most of the high quality suits are made from tiara fabric. Not only male models are made from it, but also female ones, as well as school ones. This matter, despite its density, is very soft and smooth. A subtle ribbed pattern can be seen on the surface.

Its striking feature is the ability to form even and beautiful folds. It can have two sides (outside and wrong side), and also be single-faced.

Tiare is the product of the painstaking work of its inventor. It is for this reason that its composition includes several fibers of various origins: natural, synthetic and artificial. Their combination makes this fabric unique and pleasant to the touch. A third of the wool in the composition allows the material to keep warm, another third of the viscose makes the fabric soft, 38% of polyester protects against premature wear, and the remaining 2% of elastane allows it to stretch. Some of the fibers are made from fine wool sheep and cashmere goats. Viscose is usually obtained from cellulose (pine or beech).

The density of the material ranges from 360 to 530 g / sq. m. The cost of a canvas can vary from 300 to 500 rubles per meter.

Properties

As already mentioned, the fabric resists wear and tear well, and also slightly stains. Virtually wrinkle-free, easy to iron. The canvas is easily stained and after that it almost does not fade, and also does not lose its color even after frequent washes. The reason for the presence of all these remarkable properties of the tiara lies in the composition of the fabric - each type of fiber endows it with special characteristics, which we will discuss in more detail below.

  1. Wool makes the material warm and also less susceptible to dirt.
  2. Thanks to elastane, the tiara stretches well, and the costumes made from it fit the figure and allow you to make movements comfortable. At the same time, the fabric does not stretch over time.
  3. Polyester increases the strength of the fabric and also makes it more resistant to sunlight. Moreover, as a result of this, the matter ceases to wear out strongly from frequent washings and practically does not wrinkle. Also, because of the polyester, the tiara suit keeps its shape.
  4. Viscose, now considered a natural fiber, promotes air exchange and also imparts a characteristic smoothness.
  5. Sometimes manufacturers weave fabrics with the addition of other fibers that are not quite typical for tiara.

For example, linen containing linen becomes more hygroscopic. This, of course, is reflected in the cost of the material - it becomes more expensive.

Advantages and disadvantages

The reasons for the popularity of the use of this material in the tailoring of suits are its following advantages.

  1. First of all, it is, of course, the attractive appearance of the fabric. It makes the costumes presentable. High quality tiara products look expensive.
  2. The material is quite dense. For this reason, it is not strongly susceptible to mechanical stress, and also it practically does not break and does not dissolve on its own.
  3. Despite its density, it is soft and pleasant to the touch. When in contact with the skin, it does not cause discomfort, irritation, does not prick.
  4. The fabric tends to fit well to the figure and can even adjust it, regardless of the style and cut.
  5. One of the advantages of a tiara is its elasticity. When pulled, the fabric does not tear, and does not stretch over time.
  6. Tiara is relatively good at resisting dirt. Simply put, dirt particles do not stick to it. Small adhering debris can be easily cleaned with a few simple strokes.
  7. It is a heat-retaining fabric. Clothes made of it can be worn in the cold season.
  8. As a rule, it does not wrinkle and is easy to iron (with the exception of wrinkles formed while still wet).
  9. It goes well with denim, corduroy, raincoat, rubberized and other types of fabrics, which allows manufacturers to produce clothes of different styles.
  10. Pilling does not form on the products. This is possible thanks to the polyester content.
  11. The material is affordable and even budgetary. It can be bought at any sewing store for a small price.
  12. Tiara is safe for children. Does not cause skin irritation and allergic reactions.
  13. Well suited for those who are sewing on their own at home. The fabric is easy to drape and generally easy to work with. Its edges do not open, and when sewing, the seams do not tighten and lie flat.
  14. Dries relatively quickly and well.
  15. Doesn't require frequent washing or ironing. As a rule, it is enough to iron the item once (after washing).

This fabric also has disadvantages. Those who had to take care of costumes know firsthand about them.

  1. Products made from this material must be washed according to the instructions. The same goes for ironing - it is easy to leave marks on the fabric from a hot iron. You also need to dry carefully.
  2. Even after washing correctly, the fabric may shrink. Sometimes this happens unevenly, which thereby spoils the appearance of the product.
  3. Poorly tolerates any aggressive impact when wet. Do not squeeze too hard immediately after washing - the fabric may stretch or shrink. If the product has been dried unfolded or folded, the folds formed during drying can be difficult to iron.
  4. Usually you can find classic colors on sale. Bright colors or unusual patterns are very rare for this kind of canvas. The most common tiara color is black.
  5. The fabric is highly electrified, which can be unpleasant. The reason for this is the dominant content of synthetic fibers in the fabric.
  6. Careful storage is essential. The fabric contains wool, which is the moth's favorite treat.
  7. If worn carelessly, puffs may occur on clothes.

You also need to try not to "cling" clothes from the tiara. Such "hooks" can remain on the surface of the fabric for a long time.

Views

In addition to the "classic" tiara described above, there are several varieties of this fabric, which differ in different proportions of the fibers contained in it.

Suit fabric

Mentioning the tiara, they most often mean this particular type of canvas. To the touch, this fabric is relatively dense, but at the same time soft and smooth. Includes wool. A characteristic feature is the ability to keep warm. Also abrasion resistant, strong and durable. Good air permeability, promoting air exchange. As a rule, it is painted in classic colors for suits: black, dark blue, brown, gray, dark red and so on. The name speaks for itself: suits (trousers, jackets) and skirts are mainly sewn from this type of fabric. Can occasionally be used to make dresses.

In general, a relatively dense and visually “heavy” tissue.

Jersey

This fabric is distinguished by special knitting, which is performed on special equipment for weaving knitwear. Thus, such a tiara lacks the traditional weft and warp threads. Usually, the material contains only viscose and polyester fibers, excluding elastane and natural fibers (in rare cases, only adding wool is possible). The first material is not used because, thanks to a special weaving technique, the fabric is already elastic. The finished canvas is ultimately very smooth and pleasant to the touch. They paint it in bright colors. Quite often, these are geometric patterns (for example, a drawing with parallel lines) or a colorful ornament.

Often dresses and skirts are made of fabric, and costumes are less common.

Tiare stretch

It is also sometimes called a stretch tiara or stretch tiara, which is not entirely true. In this type of fabric, most of all the fibers used are polyester and elastane threads. The percentage of the latter can be up to 5%. Viscose and even wool are also added during production. As a rule, the canvas is painted in bright colors. The reason for this is that the tiara stretch is able to retain its color even after numerous washes. Differs in density and wear resistance. Suitable for sewing both regular suits and casual wear. Things made from such a canvas almost always look slightly tight-fitting.

Sometimes tracksuits are sewn from the named material.

Application

A number of organizations whose employees are required to wear a suit-type uniform can order sets from this particular fabric. These, for example, are banks or airlines. but especially popular was the school uniform made of tiara. Some educational institutions sew it not only for their students, but also for the working staff. The reason for this is not only attractive appearance, but also wear resistance.

Quite often, trousers are made from fabric. Most of these are female models. Now on sale you can see many not only sports and everyday options for the office, but even models for the exit. Styles can be very different: from breeches to trousers to evening suits with a pearlescent tint. The colors are also very rich and varied.

The folds on this kind of fabric are very clear and beautiful. Therefore, it is one of the best materials for sewing various pleated garments.

Summer dresses, skirts, various sundresses (including office ones) and school uniforms for girls are especially beautiful. From a thin tiara, blouses can sometimes be created for going out.

Outerwear can be made from a particularly dense tiara. Of course, we are talking only about light coats, capes and short coats. Such clothing can protect you from the first fall in temperature and keep you warm on cool spring days. A dense fabric is also used as a material for furniture covers, as well as for curtains.

Care

Perhaps one of the main points in caring for tiara products is proper washing. It is possible to clean the fabric only at a temperature not higher than 30 degrees, as well as in a purely delicate mode. If you decide to wash by hand, then you should not rub or twist the fabric too much. Do not use powder with bleaching particles or strong action. The most acceptable is a composition for delicate wash in liquid form. Such requirements are due to the presence of wool. Do not use rinse aid during washing: it destroys the structure of elastane fibers. It is strictly forbidden to wash with laundry of a different color. Cannot be bleached. Tiara items can be dry cleaned. If dirt remains after washing, then the clothes can be soaked and washed again. Do not starch the fabric or wash it with baking soda. A number of housewives recommend washing tiara products inside out. It is believed that this way the thing will be cleaned more carefully.

Do not dry the tiara on the battery or in the immediate vicinity of it. This should be done in a straightened form. It is not necessary to fold the clothes in half, and it is also advisable to even out all the folds. For better drying, turn the items over from time to time. Jackets or evening dresses are best dried on hangers.

It is undesirable to leave wet clothes in direct sunlight - it is better to prefer shade.

Ironing is also necessary according to the instructions on the label. Usually this should be done at a temperature of no more than 100 degrees (usually this is the "synthetic" mode). If you did not succeed in smoothing the fabric with an iron, then you need to do it with a steam analogue. Ironing itself should be done from the wrong side. It is advisable to do this with gauze or any other thin fabric. If possible, it is better to refuse ironing altogether.

Store clothes from the tiara hanging on hangers. With possible subsequent long-term storage without using things, it is advisable to treat them with various moth repellents. Tiara products "love" airing. Therefore, suits that have not been worn for a long time need to be hung out on the street from time to time.

In general, care is not difficult - observing several rules for washing, drying and ironing will allow you to use clothes for more than one season, even with daily wear.
