After cleansing, the skin needs toning. What is it, what is it for and how it is carried out - every woman should know the answers to these questions.

What is it and what is it for?

Toning is the stage following cleansing. If you do it regularly, your enlarged pores will shrink, your pH will return to normal, and your skin will be prepared for further care. It is believed that it is after toning that she is ready to assimilate the components of cosmetics as much as possible. This means that if you tone the skin, then all effective and expensive creams, serums, masks will be used 100%.

It is impossible to imagine complete cleansing without a tonic. The toner helps remove any excess milk or cream that you used to remove your makeup. There are some hardly soluble cosmetic particles, and the make-up remover may not "take" them: the tonic will remove them and cleanse the skin completely.

If you use the tonic regularly, systematically, competently, then small irregularities on the face will go away. The tone will even out, the color will be more healthy, which in general will have a positive effect on the overall appearance.

Facial products

The choice of cosmetics is both difficult and interesting. Some people prefer to tone the skin only with homemade remedies, for example, ice cubes on herbal decoctions. Everything is clear here: boil the herbal tea, pour it into ice molds and every morning take out a new ice cube from the mold to wipe your face. The remedy is not the worst, it can be very effective. But there is a risk of overdoing it, provoking inflammation or allergic reactions.

Therefore, you can get by with cosmetic products, the application and use of which is more comfortable and safe.

Lotion

The lotion contains alcohol and water. There are also detergents, deodorant substances, medicinal components and vitamins in their composition.

Pros of lotion:

  • the moisture that he gives to the skin does not evaporate quickly, which means that dermal hydration is more than at a satisfactory level;
  • the composition of the lotion is quickly absorbed (it will not run down the cheeks);
  • there will be no greasy trace either;
  • lotions contain those very important care components that protect the face from exposure to ultraviolet radiation.

    Lotion Cons:

    • alcohol is an important component of this cosmetic product, and it, as you know, dries the skin (therefore, lotions are taboo for dry or prone to dry skin);
    • lotion is also not suitable for oily skin, because with sebum it will also remove moisture, and this is fraught with peeling;
    • this tonic is also not suitable for sensitive epidermis.

    It turns out that only the owners of normal skin type can afford the lotion. The good news is that the beauty industry has long figured out how to solve this problem, so tonics appeared. In fact, this is the same as lotions, only without alcohol. The absence of alcohol makes the toner a softer treatment.

    Toners can be used by owners of all skin types... But in some products of the "tonic" category, manufacturers can add substances that dissolve fat, and in terms of their negative effect, these substances can be even more dangerous than alcohol.

    Cream

    Toning cream - it is a remedy, the function of which is to activate and restore the muscle tone of sensitive facial tissues. If you can call your skin tired or even aging, the toning step should never be skipped. And tonic creams do a pretty good job of doing this.

    The main properties of toning creams:

    • optimize blood microcirculation;
    • stimulate important cellular processes;
    • increase dermal elasticity;
    • inhibit the expansion of facial pores;
    • remove makeup residues;
    • smooth out.

      Toning cream can be used in the evening or in the morning... The morning ritual will help to invigorate and prepare the skin for the application of decorative cosmetics.

      To make sure that the cream really tones up, look at its composition. Mint, citrus fruits, cucumber, eucalyptus, pharmacy chamomile, calendula, aloe, rosemary are considered excellent ingredients for toning the skin. And if you buy similar natural ingredients in the form of extracts from the pharmacy, then you can prepare the cream yourself. For example, adding lanolin or petroleum jelly as a binder. The validity period of the homemade cream is short, but this has its advantages - there will be no potentially harmful additives in it.

      Serum

      The skin gets tired during the day, absorbs not only positive traces of the external environment, but also negative ones. And to remove this fatigue, the developers of the toning cosmetic lines have created a special serum. It relieves daytime fatigue of the skin, gives a partly firming effect, pleasantly cools and improves elasticity.

      The following components are often present in toning serums:

      • peppermint;
      • kelp;
      • lime;
      • green tea;
      • fucus.

      The toning serum is applied to a clean face, spread over it with light massage movements. After the serum has been absorbed, you can apply a night or day cream (depending on the time you use the serum).

      This treatment helps to preserve youthfulness of the skin and prevents the appearance of signs of fatigue.

      Masks

      If you feel that your skin is loose, you notice puffiness on your face, if you do not like dark circles under the eyes, the right solution is to resort to toning masks. In particular, they serve as a quick remedy for overwork, signs of lack of normal sleep, etc.

      How to use natural toning masks:

      • wash off cosmetics before use - rule number 1;
      • to rule out an allergic reaction, test the composition that you are going to apply on the wrist;
      • the components of the mask must be mixed thoroughly so that coarse lumps do not injure the delicate areas of the skin of the face;
      • there is no reason to use masks every day, 1-2 applications per week are enough.

      The ideal option is natural toning masks, that is, formulations that you will make yourself. A simple example of such a mixture is mask with sour cream and lemon. Combine lemon juice and sour cream in equal proportions (best if homemade). And apply this mixture in an even layer to cleansed skin. Avoid the area around the eyes. After 15 minutes, wash off the mask with slightly cool running water.

      Another example of a simple toning mask - oat mixture. Combine ground oatmeal with the same amount of fatty sour cream or kefir. Let the mixture sit for 5 minutes. Apply to cleansed face along massage lines. After 15 minutes, wash off the mixture from the face.

      Selection rules

      Consider your skin type when choosing... Salicylic acid, extracts of certain medicinal plants and essential oils are often a component in tonics for oily skin. They show antiseptic and anti-inflammatory effects, and they also matte the skin.

      For dry and dehydrated skin, the alcohol content in the tonic is undesirable. Even low concentrations of alcohol can harm this type of skin. But if you saw polysaccharides in the composition, this is a good component for dry skin, they create a kind of film on the face that retains moisture.

      If you have sensitive skin prone to irritation, try to pick up a tonic with panthenol and chamomile extract in the composition. Antioxidants and amino acids, as well as vitamins, are good inclusions in such a product.

      Menthol is often present in the tonic. And this is a really healthy ingredient. It cools, invigorates, improves microcirculation. And the extract of horse chestnut or Asian centella in the composition of the tonic strengthens the capillary walls, relieves congestion in the dermis.

      Expert advice

      You don't have to spend huge sums on beauticians to keep your skin looking good. If you do not have clinically difficult problems, and at home, you can organize decent facial skin care.

      Beautician tips to make you look more beautiful.

      1. If you have oily skin, get mattifying toners. If your skin needs extra nourishment, use nourishing toners.
      2. Spraying the toner is a good option. This is a good solution for sensitive skin, which can react with irritation even to the touch of a cotton sponge.
      3. You need to use the toner after each contact of the skin with water - the pH balance itself is restored in about 2 hours. The tonic normalizes the acid-base balance.
      4. During the day, the skin needs more protection, and at night it needs restoration, therefore only a few can do with one cream. It is still better to have different creams for specific purposes.
      5. If the product leaves a feeling of tightness and itching after application to the skin, do not use it again.
      6. If you have couperose skin, avoid cosmetics containing glycolic acid.
      7. If your skin is prone to dryness, choose products that contain oils.
      8. The fearful parabens are not banned in the cosmetics industry. They will not harm the skin if the epidermal barrier is intact. If the skin is healthy (without signs of atopic dermatitis, peeling, etc.), they will not penetrate deep into the dermis.
