All about autumn topiary

If you want to diversify the interior, pay attention to topiary. These are handicrafts of amazing beauty, with the help of which you can expressively decorate the house. The finished product, made by yourself, will differ from the store products in originality.

Topiary is also called the "tree of happiness". This is a compact decorative tree made from natural or artificial elements. As a rule, such crafts have a round crown and a small thin trunk.

This type of needlework came to us from Europe. There are many themes used in making crafts. In the article we will talk about the autumn topiary.

Anyone can make a bright and colorful product from artificial or natural material on the theme of "Gifts of Autumn". You do not need to have special skills, the main thing is diligence and creativity.

Before you start, you need to prepare a special kit for creativity.

Any handicraft involves the use of certain materials. An autumn-themed topiary can be made from leaves (real or artificial), berries, acorns, and other items associated with this enchanting time of year. You can also use various decorative items such as beads, fabric ribbons, figurines, and more.

Experienced craftsmen, who have been making "trees of happiness" for more than one year, advise not to limit your imagination and experiment while working.

To make a charming autumn topiary with your own hands, you need to choose a suitable master class and follow the instructions. The work must begin with the preparation of the necessary tools and materials.

We need the following.

• A set of basic decorative elements of the desired theme: leaves, chestnuts, acorns, berries, fruits, etc.
• A small piece of fabric for decoration. To match the theme, it is recommended to opt for the following colors: red, yellow, gold, shades of brown, orange.
• Old magazines or newspapers.
• Ice cream sticks made of wood.
• Thick paper napkins without a pattern.
• Styrofoam.
• Gypsum.
• Plait (twine) and threads.
• Compact cardboard box.
• Glue. To work will need two trains: "Moment" and PVA.

Doing the work step by step.

• The basis of the future tree is a ball. To create it, you need to crumple several newspapers and give them the desired shape. Use strong thread to hold it in place to keep the paper in shape.
• After the base is ready, it must be pasted over with napkins. You should work carefully so that the napkins lie flat and do not tear. To proceed to the next step, you need to wait until the glue is completely dry (use a PVA compound). We'll have to wait a few hours.
• Now let's move on to creating the trunk. An ice cream stick is useful for this. We insert this element into the ball and wrap the trunk with twine. This will make the detail look more attractive. Use Moment glue to fix the end of the bundle.
• Now for the tree you need to prepare the base (vase). In our case, this is a box. The easiest way is to paint it in any color, but to make the craft look more expressive, you can use the remaining sticks for decoration. We glue the box with them. After that, the box, decorated with wooden elements, can be painted with gold paint.
• To keep the topiary securely in the box, it must be strengthened. To do this, you can use an additional vessel, the height of which is the same as the height of the box. We place the tree in a bowl, fill it with plaster and put the craft in a vase in a box. For the gypsum to dry completely, you need to wait about 24 hours. We place the topiary in the center of the prepared "flower garden".
• The free space in the box around the vase should be decorated. To do this, fill it with foam and cover it with a cloth.
• Now the workpiece needs to be decorated. Decorative elements must be attached to the round crown. You can choose any method of fastening, for example, with glue. If you use artificial decorative elements placed on pieces of wire, they can be inserted into the crown and fixed with an adhesive.

The autumn tree of happiness is ready. An original handicraft can be placed in an apartment or presented to a loved one as a present. To make the craft keep its appearance for a long time, use artificial decor. You can also combine the two, such as combining artificial leaves with natural acorns and twigs.

Consider another option for making an autumn craft.

In this case, you need to prepare the following.

• Container as a base for wood. This time we will choose a regular small flower pot.
• Styrofoam ball. This is the crown of the product. To make it, you need to connect several parts of this material with glue. Diameter - from 12 to 18 centimeters.
• Decorations. Any decorative elements that correspond to the autumn theme will do.
• Each tree needs a trunk. It can be made from several branches, tightly wrapped with tape. A branch with a diameter of about a centimeter is also suitable.
• To decorate the trunk, you should prepare bright cloth ribbons or a tourniquet.
• Gypsum is needed to fix individual elements.
• Experienced craftswomen recommend using a special glue gun.It is convenient to work with him. Stock up on plenty of glue sticks.

Manufacturing workshop.

• Let's start with the preparation of the crown. In the foam crown, you need to make a hole for the trunk.
• Place the base (trunk) of the future tree in a flower pot and fill it with plaster. Make sure the barrel is centered. Wait until the fixing compound is completely dry.
• After the composition has hardened, a foam crown must be attached to the trunk. Pour glue into the prepared hole using a pistol and connect the two elements.
• After the adhesive has dried, you can proceed to the most interesting thing - decoration. Use a heat gun to attach leaves, bows, ribbons, and other decorations. Artificial apples and miniature pumpkins also look impressive.

After making the topiary, you need to find a suitable place for its installation. It should be noted that in this case there are no exact rules and prohibitions. In order for the craft to decorate the interior and please the eye, it is necessary to install the "tree of happiness" in such a way that it is noticeable. You should also make sure that the autumn topiary will be in harmony with other items in the decor.

• If you are going to decorate the kitchen with a miniature tree, install the product away from the sink and gas stove. In order for the craft to maintain its appearance, it should not come into contact with fat, water and other contaminants. In such conditions, the craft will quickly become unusable and will have to be thrown away.
• Also, an autumn craft will look great in a bedroom, hall or living room. This option is more preferable to preserve the appearance of the product. Avoid direct sunlight, which will discolor the wood.
• If possible, place the topiary in a cabinet with glass doors. So you can admire the product, and it will be maximally protected from dust particles, moisture, pets and small children.

In addition to the right place for installation, the craft needs proper care. Even in the cleanest room there is dust, which eventually settles on the surface of the topiary. So that it does not spoil the appearance of the product, it must be disposed of periodically.
