In order to embroider beautiful paintings with beads, you must be able to choose the right needles for embroidery. You can buy a good set of needles immediately before starting work, or in advance, so that in any case you get a decent craft.

Peculiarities

For high-quality work with beads, you need to know their characteristic features. For example, the fact that a needle for embroidery with beads is seriously different from the needles we are used to. Ordinary products have a noticeable thickening of the eyelet, which makes it difficult for the beads to pass through it, but for needles for working with beads, the eyelet is made so that the hole for the thread is large, but not wide. To achieve this effect, the eyelet is slightly elongated and differs in significant length when compared to conventional needles.

Special features of beading needles:

  • they are thinner and slightly longer than regular needles;
  • uniform thickness of the entire product, the eyelet is not widened;
  • the eyelet is too small - in order to thread the threads, craftsmen use special needle threaders;
  • rather fragile due to flexibility, so they often just break.

English products

These are fairly long and very thin needles, with which you can embroider even the smallest balls. It happens that such products are used for weaving looms, and in addition, they are used for planed stitches (peyote, herringbone, mesh, brick stitch).

Japanese needles

They are thin and highly flexible products with a reinforced eye and a slightly rounded point. Slightly similar to English needles, but much stronger and therefore much more expensive.

Large eye (double) needles

These are needles that are easy enough to thread, since they just have a huge eyelet along the entire length of the needle. These products are much thicker than English needles, as they consist of 2 pieces of metal that are connected together at the top and bottom. When a given product is pushed out of the ends, its center arches to reveal an eyelet that runs along its entire length.

Twisted needles

They are produced from a flexible type of wire with a large eye. Perfect for full-fledged work with pearls and precious stones, but too flexible for creativity with beads.

There are also products for embroidery with beads without an eyelet at all - where the thread is attached, they may have a special clip or, conversely, a split.

The number of the needle is also better to select, taking into account the size of the selected beads. The smaller the beads themselves, the larger the size of the needle should be. Thin and flexible items are best bought with stock.

The sizes of the needles have the accepted numbering - from the 4th to the 16th size. The lower the number, the thicker the needle will be.

  • The most versatile needle is called number 12.
  • For embroidering small paintings on the canvas, the number 10 needle is most often chosen.
  • When working with small beads, products from 10 to 16 sizes are purchased.
  • For large beads, thickened items with numbers from 4 to 8 are used.
  • The shortest items are no more than 4 cm, they are comfortable to work with with active embroidery or beading.
  • Long pieces can be up to 10 cm and are especially good if you need to collect many beads at one time.
  • Extra long items make it easy to embroider large canvases.

Needle flexibility is another important criterion. Different companies produce needles from alloys that have different flexibility characteristics. The softer and more elastic the material of the product, the worse it will keep its shape, it can quickly bend and become unusable. Too hard and thin needles are fragile and brittle.

Popular manufacturers

Gamma

Pointed needles are available in 6 pieces (the set includes a needle threader).

Pros:

  • extremely comfortable to work on any material;
  • low cost.

Minuses:

  • too small an ear;
  • often bend and quickly deteriorate.

Hemline

The needles are made of high quality steel, so they are not afraid of corrosion and will not break quickly. Sold in 6 pieces.

Pros:

  • long, thin, with a huge ear;
  • comfortable at work.

The downside is the high cost.

Beading pony

Quite sharp products with a substantial ear. In certain models, the “gold” ear technology is used. Products are reliable, do not break often. You can buy one piece and a set.

Pros:

  • the product will not bend, it is comfortable to work with it;
  • The "golden" eye will tell you when the spraying is completely worn out and the needle needs to be changed.

Minuses:

  • the spray wears off too quickly - after about 12 hours of operation;
  • quite high price.

How to choose?

The choice of a needle for creativity depends on the selected needlework technique - one type of needles is suitable for embroidery with beads, and completely different types for beading.

In any beading technique, special materials and special tools are used.

The thing is that in most types of weaving, wire or fishing line is used as a thread. These are tough materials and do not require needles. But in some openwork crafts or when using small beads, a thread with a needle can still be used.

Techniques of this kind include:

  • openwork weaving (soft lace braids a hard-type structure);
  • brick beading (the rigidity of the craft is obtained due to the fact that the beads fit very tightly);
  • weaving in the form of a mosaic (also one of the dense types of bead packing);
  • tapestry type beading.

For quick weaving of beads, it is best to buy products with a length of 12 cm.For creativity with large beads, needles of 5 cm are chosen.

To embroider a picture with beads, it is optimal to select the diameter of the needle based on the parameters of the beads themselves. But still, the length should be based on a specific embroidery technique.

If you have to work with beads one piece at a time, it is better to choose a piece that is a little shorter - no more than 4.5 cm. If you pass through the fabric too often, a long piece will cause great inconvenience.

For a set "attached", where you need to collect all the beads of a row on one thread before sewing to the canvas, it is better to use a long needle.

This will reduce the number of sets and significantly save time.
