Before the advent of textile enterprises, clothes were sewn and decorated by hand. To embroider a pattern on a dress, to complement a tablecloth or to beautifully process the edge of a product, it was necessary to spend a lot of time and effort. To speed up the embroidery process and make it as convenient as possible, a hoop was invented. Thanks to the variety of hoop shapes, material of manufacture, types of fastening and methods of fixing the fabric, it became possible to create real masterpieces.

Peculiarities

The hoop is a device thanks to which you can carry out beautiful and high-quality embroidery. There are round, oval, square and rectangular varieties. You can start your acquaintance with such equipment with the round version, but for the more experienced, square or rectangular embroidery hoops are suitable.

This inventory can consist of 4 strips, which are connected using special fasteners. The main advantages are:

  • larger volume the working surface, the absence of a frame that interferes with embroidery;

  • no clamps on all sides of the material, which led to thread rubbing and creases on the fabric;

  • the opportunity to work longerwithout moving the material in the hoop, which allows you not to stain the finished product.

Despite the significant advantages, square and rectangular hoops have a number of disadvantages, which include:

  • lack of tension of the material along the edges;

  • significant weight, which does not allow long-term use of the product anywhere;

  • high cost compared to the plastic round analogue.

Square and rectangular options are most often made of wood, creating special types of material fastening for them.There are also plastic options, but they are less convenient to use.

To choose a specific version of the hoop, you need to understand the features of this equipment. Wooden varieties are the most popular, with their help you can get good results for several years. Plastic The embroidery hoop is easy to use, but has a short service life, since the material is rather fragile and deteriorates from repeated use.

The main specific difference between square and rectangular hoops is the way of fixing the fabric. There are such options:

  • splitting horizontal strips and clamping them with side plates;

  • fixation with a tape, which is attached to the upper bar with a stapler or glue, the necessary material for embroidery is sewn to such a tape;

  • clamp with plastic clips.

The fabric can be placed facing the craftswoman or the wrong side, as the situation requires. Another method that is suitable for small jobs is to use the rectangular folding hoop with the Q-Snap fixing system, thanks to the semicircular plastic tubes, it is possible to fix the material on the hoop.

The fastening is not very reliable and weakens over time, but this type is suitable for small embroidery or for training.

Dimensions (edit)

To buy the right hoop, you need to be familiar with the sizes of these devices. There are such options:

  • No. 1 - 110x95 mm;

  • No. 2 - 165x145 mm;

  • No. 3 - 220x195 mm;

  • No. 4 - 280x250 mm.

Each option is suitable for the specific material and size of the pattern to be embroidered. The smaller the hoop, the more often you have to move it while embroidering. Too large a size will require a large supply of tissue, which will be fixed on the equipment. The most popular are №2 and №3, which have a sufficient working surface and do not require a large supply of matter.

How to choose?

In order not to be mistaken in choosing a hoop, it is worth considering such nuances.

  • The size of the pattern to be sewn. Based on the size of the future work surface, you need to select the dimensions of the inventory.

  • Type of work. If the embroidery will be carried out with beads, you cannot use the hoop with a circular clip, it deforms the beads and may break them. For such work, a frame version of the equipment is needed, which can fix the embroidered material without violating its integrity;

  • Workload of the master. If you need to embroider a lot and in different techniques, you need to purchase several different hoops that will allow you to comfortably perform any task. The set is best to have a small hoop, a medium variety and equipment for large jobs. The shape of the hoop can be round, oval, square or rectangular.

A beginner master should try all the options in order to settle on the most convenient for himself. The selection of equipment must be done, focusing not only on the reviews of the masters or the seller, but also on your own feelings.
