Trench coats

What is a trench coat?

What is a trench coat?

History of things

A trench coat, or trench coat, is a classic, one might say, canonical model of a military raincoat, which has its own characteristics. A trench coat is a medium-length double-breasted outerwear with a turn-down collar, cuffs, improvised shoulder straps, as well as a belt with a buckle, a slot and a back slit that can be fastened. Trench coats are made from moisture-resistant material and are versatile, stylish and suitable for any occasion.

The trench coat originally appeared in the early 1900s, when British infantry soldiers needed an easier replacement for heavy twill overcoats. The trench coat was invented by Thomas Burberry, owner of a gabardine factory. The infantrymen gave the trench coat the name of the wear-resistant and rain-proof raincoat.

Since this thing is almost impossible to demolish, war veterans continued to wear trench coats with pleasure in peacetime, as they gained their popularity in civil society. The trench coat appeared in the women's wardrobe thanks to Coco Chanel. Known for her revolutionary approach to fashion, Coco decided that it would be unforgivable to leave such a comfortable and stylish thing only to men. Later, actors and actresses began to wear trench coats, then the popularity of this type of raincoat skyrocketed.

It is curious that the trench coat has survived to this day without any changes, and that celebrities and ordinary townspeople who wear it still look modern and very fashionable. Convenience has not gone anywhere either. Thanks to the slot on the back, the trench coat does not hinder your movements, and the classic belt with a buckle allows you to adjust it to any shape and protect it from wind or rain.

Trench and french: differences

Many people confuse these two concepts, but in reality the things are very different. So, a jacket is a jacket adapted for civilian needs. As a rule, a jacket is sewn from a soft dense fabric, has a soft straight turn-down collar, which can be raised and fastened with buttons.Usually, service jackets have large pockets on the floor and chest, which are also fastened with a button. The military wore jackets, specially sewn without a collar at all, so that the shirt and tie were visible.

The trench coat has completely different characteristics. First, it is a raincoat that repels water. Traditionally, like Burberry, other manufacturers sew gabardine trench coats. The trench coat always has a double-breasted turn-down collar, the cuffs on the sleeves are adjustable with straps, and the back slit is closed with a button. In addition, the trench coat is always equipped with a belt that has a D-shaped buckle.

Raincoat and trench coat - is there a difference?

In fact, a trench coat is a narrower meaning of the word "raincoat" and has a number of features with it. As we have already said, trench coats have their own cut and silhouette, and only in this form a raincoat can be called a trench coat. The raincoat itself can be absolutely anything - with zippers or buttons, be long, up to the floor, have a flared or A-shaped silhouette.

How is it different from a coat?

Despite the fact that the very name "trench coat" is a combination of the words trench - "trench" and coat - "coat", it has little in common with a coat. The main difference is that coats are made of fabric that does not repel water: drape, cashmere, twill or wool. Just like a raincoat, a coat can be single-breasted, unlike a trench coat. In fact, a raincoat is an uninsulated version of a coat, and a trench coat is a variation on the theme of this clothing. The coat and the trench coat have something in common - initially both of these outerwear elements were invented for the military, only the coat was intended for sailors.

What to wear with?

A trench coat is a basic classic in a woman's wardrobe, and it can be combined with various elements of clothing. The trench coat looks best in casual style: jeans of any models, sweaters and turtlenecks under the throat, skirts, dresses and sundresses go well with it. The universal length of the trench coat - just above the knee, gives the girl the opportunity to wear a skirt of any length - mini, midi or floor-length. True, in the case of an overly short trench coat, you should not button it up, since outerwear that is longer than the hem of a skirt or dress is considered bad form.

To create a street-chic look, you can wear wide leg pants and a checked shirt, or add a geometric print skirt or skinny skinny jeans to your look. As for shoes, sneakers or moccasins, as well as wedge or platform shoes, are equally well suited to a trench coat.

Since trench coats are traditionally sewn in restrained colors - sand, beige, gray, less often black, this outerwear is ideal for a business style. The trench coat will make a wonderful pair with a business suit, pencil skirt and light-colored blouse or shirt. Depending on your habits, it is permissible to wear both high-heeled shoes and loafers. With a trench coat are good and high "army boots" with a rough sole, and boots with a thin stiletto heel or heel-glass.

And when going out, to a party or other special occasion, you can wear a trench coat. True, you should not choose a fluffy dress for him. Fitted or A-shaped cocktail outfits, on the other hand, will look good. The trench coat can be complemented with long gloves to the elbow, as well as a small clutch. If the party does not imply being in the room, the trench coat can be not fastened, but only tied to a belt - this way the clothes put on down will be visible. As an accessory, you can use a light scarf tied around your neck, as well as sunglasses.

  • A very fresh, but at the same time classic, fashionable and not prim look. A traditional sand-colored trench coat with brown hardware matches the color of the coffee-colored bag. Blue jeans and a vest sweatshirt complete the look, making it perfect for urban everyday life.

  • Look that can be considered both evening and daytime at the same time. It skillfully combines all shades of beige: flesh-colored pumps, a golden skirt and a pastel-colored blouse are combined by the canonical, calm shade of a trench coat. The bag is matched in the same style to the trench coat, and its slightly darker shade is in harmony with the fittings on the raincoat and sunglasses.

An image in the style of the 60s, built on a soft combination of related warm shades. Ballerinas and a white dress that can be seen from an unbuttoned trench coat is a comfortable solution for every day. If it suddenly gets colder, you can tie a scarf more tightly, and all the necessary things will be included in a large chocolate-colored bag.
