Recently, such a plumbing device as a bidet has been especially popular. It allows you to carry out hygiene procedures without leaving the restroom. However, when planning the location and installation, problems can arise, one of which is related to determining the distance to the toilet. This is what this article is about.

Peculiarities

Very often people tend to think that arranging a bathroom and even more so a toilet is a fairly simple task, but in most cases this, unfortunately, is not entirely true. The plumbing in question should be located next to the sewer, while the optimal distance to other integral parts of the room must be respected.

Building standards will be different for specific houses and apartments, it all depends on the square of the bathroom or toilet, on the shape of the room.

Therefore, if you need to equip the restroom competently and organically, then you need to build on specific guidelines related to health and hygiene.

Toilets and bidets are usually located next to each other, but it is important that they are not set too close or too far away. During use, there should be enough room to move one person of medium-sized build. Just like a toilet, bidets should not be placed in close proximity to a door or wall, otherwise they will be inconvenient to use.

Space planners suggest a minimum distance of 40 cm between the center line of the toilet and the center line of the bidet (along the axes).

The center line of a toilet or bidet is an imaginary line that divides the bathroom fixtures into two equal parts in the middle. As a rule, the given parameter corresponds to the length of the elbow and allows users to comfortably operate the described plumbing devices.

note that the specified distance of 40 cm (in some cases 50 cm) should be not only between installations, but also to other products from them in the bathroom or toilet: bath, floor cabinets, washing machine and more.

Room size

It is clear that A large bidet in a small washroom will look too bulky. Therefore, it is necessary to initially choose the right model, and for this you need to measure the room and draw a plan of this bathroom or toilet room to scale. The drawing will help you figure out where to place the bidet. In this regard, it will be easier to select its size.

During the development of the project, it is important to provide sufficient space in front of the plumbing, so that the toilet and bidet are comfortable to use.

There should be a minimum distance of 60 cm from each plumbing fixture to the wall in front of it, meanwhile the optimal size is called 70 cm. You can always arrange the plumbing so that the most distant device is 3 m away from the sewer pipe.

When planning, you should also think about how the toilet and bidet will look together. These plumbing fixtures are very similar, therefore, for a more harmonious visual perception, you should select approximately similar options: in style, color and size. In the case of a wall-mounted toilet, the bidet must also be purchased in a wall-hung version.

If the bathroom is shared, then the equipment should be placed so that the room is divided into separate zones, that is, a sanitary one, where a toilet bowl with a bidet will be placed, and a hygienic one - a bath or shower and a sink.

In addition, you can designate these zones, that is, divide them with partitions or different colors of the flooring. You should also not forget about the place for the washing machine, if, of course, you decide to install it in the bathroom.

Minimum distance

If we talk about the minimum distance, then this value varies from 25 to 30 cm.

It is important for a large room not to "scatter" appliances in different corners - the distance between the toilet and bidet should remain comfortable regardless of the square of the room.

In this case, one should not forget that both of these plumbing fixtures form an integral functional complex, which is why you should place them close. It will be more difficult for those who have a bathroom that is too small and have a desire to put a bidet. It is considered incorrect in this situation to place the bidet too close to the toilet.

If you do not observe the minimum distance, the devices will be rather inconvenient and difficult to use. Therefore, in any situation, it is worth maintaining the recommended distance; it is better to choose more compact plumbing equipment.

If conditions do not allow the installation of a bidet, pay attention to the following devices:

  • hygienic shower;
  • bidet cover;
  • shower-bidet.

All these devices will make it possible to equip the toilet and make it more functional without losing free space and space.

Installation and connection

You can install the bidet yourself, because you don't need any special skills for this. All you need to do is read the installation guide carefully and follow the clear and simple instructions.

The bidet connects to the existing cold water supply next to the toilet in the toilet or bathroom.

There are models with a water heater installed inside, therefore a separate hot water line is not required in this case. There is no need for a separate drain either, because by flushing everything is washed off into the drain pipe. However, this model will require electricity, so make sure you have a power outlet nearby.

If we talk about installing a conventional bidet, to which you need to supply cold and hot water, then the steps will be as follows:

  • the bottom of the bidet must be placed on a sheet of rubber and circled around the edges with chalk or a marker, in addition, it will be necessary to mark the places for the mounting holes;
  • a gasket is cut out, special holes for fasteners are made;
  • the bidet is placed on the floor and the sole is outlined with a marker, here you will also need to mark the position of the fasteners;
  • using a puncher, make holes in the floor according to the markings for special fasteners;
  • dowel sleeves are driven into each hole with a hammer;
  • the previously cut rubber backing should be glued onto the silicone sealant to the floor within the outlined limits (with a marker);
  • the lining is lubricated with sealant from above and the bidet is installed;
  • it remains to attach the device to the floor using threaded fasteners (if earthenware or porcelain plumbing fixtures are installed, the fasteners must be tightened very carefully, since excessive forces can lead to damage to the product, which may simply burst).

    It remains to attach a special siphon with a mixer to the bowl, and then connect the communications.

    Make sure all connections are secure.

    Open the water supply by turning the knob counterclockwise and check the connections for leaks.
