Household appliances greatly simplify people's lives, free up free time and save energy. If you handle her ineptly, instead of positive emotions, you can get additional problems. Even such an attribute of any modern home as an iron should not be underestimated.

Getting started

Ironing laundry with an electric iron is a pleasure, but remember that this device must be in good working order. Even with the most acute shortage of time, you need to check:

  • whether the wire is twisted;
  • Is the insulation ok?
  • Is the outlet sparking?
  • the plug is coming loose.

If there is at least one of these problems, it is imperative to eliminate it, only then start to work. Even when everything is in order with the electrical wiring, you still need to look at the sole of the iron. If it is dirty, it is necessary to remove all stains, crusts and deposits before ironing. It is undesirable to touch the heating base once again.

The preparation does not end there. Responsible people always put their feet on the rubber mat while ironing. This is exactly what they do in professional ateliers and garment factories - and there they know what they are doing.

Everyone has known for a long time that it is only necessary to grasp the plug and cord, the body of the electrical appliance with dry hands. Another requirement is no less important: at this moment, you must not hold onto other metal objects.

During work

Safety precautions when working with the iron mean that the hot sole should not touch the cord. The fabric to be ironed should be moderately moisturized. It is forbidden:

  • use more heat than required;
  • touch the heated sole (even through the cloth);
  • leave, leaving the included iron without control;
  • litter and clutter up the workplace;
  • leave the iron in a horizontal position during short working pauses;
  • place it on a wobbly and unstable base.

Speaking about the rules for using the iron, one cannot but say about the fact that it is only necessary to moisten the fabric during operation with a spray bottle. Pouring water from cups, cups, bottles, splashing it from the mouth is prohibited. If there are sparks, if there is smoke, you must immediately disconnect the iron from the network. It is desirable that someone else be present during the work. Then the likelihood of an accident decreases markedly.

For safe ironing of things, a firm rule must be observed - the iron must not be cooled with a spray bottle. You should wait until it cools down by itself. It is unacceptable to assess the heating of the sole by touching the finger. Do not direct steam towards yourself. Do not use the electric iron outdoors, in high humidity conditions.

When the work is done

Switch off the appliance only with dry hands, holding the plug, not the wire. However, do not pull too hard. You need to put the iron in an upright position. It should be removed where it does not fall on your head. You should check if the wire is sticking out, if it will create inconvenience.

Additional nuances

If possible, it is worth using irons with a temperature control function. It is only required to hold them during operation by the handle. Synthetic fabrics are ironed at a minimum temperature or not ironed at all. Leaving the room, make sure that the device is disconnected from the mains. Before starting work, you must put the iron on a "dry" or "wet" program (the second is chosen only when the tank is filled with water).

You can use a new iron only after reading the instructions. You cannot turn it on if the mains voltage and other operating parameters of the mains deviate from the norm. It is imperative to remember the maximum power of the devices to be switched on (both in one outlet and in the whole house or apartment). It is recommended to iron any items on a hard wooden board, which is covered with a clean cloth.

Make sure that the iron does not come into contact with objects that catch fire during breaks. The appliance must not be removed to its usual place until it has cooled down completely. According to safety regulations, it must be plugged into an outlet only with a standard cord. Additionally connect wires or use adapters, extension cords are prohibited! Can't Trust Iron:

  • small children;
  • drunk;
  • elderly;
  • people with mental disabilities;
  • people in a stressful state.

    Even with strict adherence to safety requirements, the iron or fabric can catch fire. In this case, you must first de-energize the device, and only then extinguish the fire. When fighting against it, of course, you cannot pour water - you need to knock down the flame, cover it with sand (soil) or cover it with a thick cloth. If you cannot cope with the fire immediately, you need to immediately call for help.

    We remind you: the choice of a high-quality iron and strict adherence to safety measures allows you to almost completely eliminate the occurrence of a fire or electric shock.
