When equipping their own living space, each family thinks about purchasing the most important technical device - a refrigerator. This state-of-the-art cooling equipment is firmly embedded in everyday life. That is why every housewife needs to know how to take care of the refrigerator in everyday life, not only outside, but also inside.

Does the new refrigerator need to be washed?

When purchasing a new cooling household appliance, not everyone knows that the first manipulation after installation is the function of cleaning the refrigerator from industrial dust and reagent residues.

Before placing food in the new unit, be sure to damp clean with detergent.

Strong household reagents are not suitable for this procedure, as they can damage the surface of the refrigerator.

For proper cleansing, follow the instructions below:

  • Free the appliance from any grids, plastic containers and compartments.
  • Dissolve a couple tablespoons of baking soda in a liter of warm water.
  • In the prepared solution, wet a sponge and wipe the inner compartments.
  • Then rinse it with clean water, removing any remaining soda solution.
  • Perform the same cleaning procedure with removable sections and shelves.

Thoroughly dry all elements of the household appliance in order to exclude fading and mold formation.

How to defrost?

Every household device needs constant care. And since the cooling device belongs to those devices that are in constant operation, it is certainly necessary to give it a break. The main condition that can never be neglected do not defrost a running appliance:

  • To do this, set the thermostat to zero, only then disconnect the device from the power supply.
  • Empty the contents of the refrigerator from food and internal parts. If the refrigerator does not have a self-defrosting function, then it is necessary to substitute a container for collecting melted water from below.
  • It will take time to defrost the unit. It is not worth accelerating the thawing process, since the device will overheat from the temperature drop.
  • Then wash the shelves and containers of the device with soapy water, wipe the internal compartments.
  • After rinsing with clean water, dry the surface with a soft cloth.
  • Leave the refrigerator open for a while to completely dry all the components.
  • Connect the device to the power supply so that it "reaches" the desired cooling temperature. Only after that, start placing food.

How to wash the inside?

The refrigerator must always be kept clean as it contains food. A properly preserved food is a guarantee of the health of the whole family.

By properly cleaning the household cooling unit, you will not only preserve the device and extend its life, but also prevent household reagents from getting into food.

As a rule, modern appliances are made of plastic. This material does not react to household chemicals and is resistant to moisture. But over time it becomes yellowish.

When starting a general "cleaning", which means thoroughly washing the equipment inside, it is necessary to decide which of the means will be preferable. If you have an old refrigerator that does not have a defrosting function, be sure to make sure that the thawed water does not drip onto the floor, substitute any container from below to collect the liquid. After defrosting, feel free to start cleaning the inner and outer surfaces.

Many housewives prefer to replace household chemicals with folk remedies. In this case the right choice for baking soda and vinegar.

At home, these improvised means will perfectly cope not only with traces of old stains and streaks, but also eliminate an unpleasant odor.

If you prefer to use baking soda, then dilute it in warm water to the consistency of "kefir". Thoroughly moisten a cloth with this solution and apply to old stubborn stains and leave for a while. Then rinse the area with clean water. Change the water often to keep the surface streak-free.

If you want to quickly get rid of the unpleasant smell, then homemade vinegar can help.

The main thing is to respect the proportions, diluting in equal parts vinegar and water. This vinegar cleaner will effectively clean the interior surface and eliminate annoying, unpleasant odors.

The most common problems when cleaning refrigerators:

  • mold;
  • yellowness of the plastic coating;
  • persistent unpleasant odor;
  • greasy spots;
  • traces of stickers.

Mold

Mold can appear in a household appliance if food is stored for a long time and the humidity regime is violated. First of all, do not store perishable foodstuffs for a long time, carefully close jars and containers with lids.

You can remove mold by the following methods:

  • Laundry soap is a universal remedy. Rub a piece of laundry soap on a fine grater, so it dissolves faster in warm water. Moisten a sponge in a diluted soap solution and rinse all elements of the unit's contents; shelves, grates, pallets. Then process the inner walls. When the entire surface has been processed, rinse everything with clean, running water. Since the laundry soap has an alkaline effect, the mold, unable to withstand such treatment, will leave the place of deployment.
  • Baking soda.Baking soda is an effective tool for removing mold. To do this, you need to free the appliance from the internal shelves and place them in a baking soda solution. Leaving the shelves for a while, then rinse with clean water from the soda solution. Next, wipe the surface of the boxes dry with a soft, dry cloth.
  • Vinegar. After cleaning with baking soda, then take vinegar and wipe all surface details. You do not need to rinse off the vinegar, it will dry on the surface by itself.
  • Chemistry. When choosing a commercial cleaning agent, pay attention to the fact that it does not contain abrasive substances. Follow the instructions for use. After processing, carefully remove any residues from the surface.

Fat

As a rule, traces of fat can appear due to inaccurate use of containers for storing soups, cereals. Greasy stains dry out, from which dark yellow spots may appear in the future. But even this trouble can be easily dealt with by the following means:

  • The easiest way to remove fat is with baking soda. Sprinkle some baking soda on a damp sponge and wipe the stain. Further - according to the previous methods, rinse the surface treated with soda with water.
  • Dishwashing gel. As you know, dishwashing detergent breaks down fat molecules well. Thus, by applying a little product to the surface of the sponge, you can easily clean the greasy areas. If a lot of product has been applied, excess foam may form, which can be easily blotted with a paper towel and then rinsed with clean water.

Yellowness

Modern household cooling units are made of plastic, which, over time, causes a problem with the appearance of yellowness. And since leaving is done rarely and often superficially, the appearance of yellowness occurs faster.

Yellowed plastic can be cleaned in the following ways:

  • Cleaning in progress alcohol. One of the best remedies for removing yellowed surfaces is ethyl alcohol. Moisten a gauze or cotton pad with alcohol and wipe the yellowed surface. When using alcohol, take precautions and clean in a well-ventilated area.
  • Vinegar essence... Using the essence, wipe the interior walls and plastic parts with a cloth or sponge soaked in vinegar. Citric acid can serve as an analogue of vinegar substitution. It is enough to dissolve citric acid in a small amount of water and wipe the yellowed areas.
  • Hydrogen peroxide... In more advanced cases, hydrogen peroxide will help wash off the yellowness. To do this, you will need to wipe the parts with a cotton pad dipped in peroxide several times. After that, the treated surface is washed with water and wiped with a soft cloth. Clean the outside of the appliance with conventional detergents.

Dirt

An important element in such a device is rubber, due to which the tightness is maintained, which means that the temperature will be maintained.

When caring for the surface, pay special attention to ensure that no dirt accumulates between the rubber band. This will cause it to turn from soft, resilient rubber into a hard, cracked surface.

To do this, rinse the gum with soapy water. Then it can be lubricated with glycerin or special silicone lubricants so that it does not lose its elasticity.

How to remove odors?

Many housewives are worried about the question of how and how to wash the refrigerator in order to get rid of a persistent unpleasant smell for a long time?

To do this, you need to understand why signs of an unpleasant odor appear in the cooling device:

  • The source of the unpleasant odor. Go through the contents of the stored food, this way the stinking source will be found. Do not store prepared food in open containers.
  • Improper storage. If you store food unopened and the temperature is not observed, it can cause the formation of a persistent odor.

An important rule to follow is to store all food supplies in containers with tightly closed lids so you don't have to frown when opening the refrigerator door.

The most popular odor elimination methods are:

  • The first place rightfully belongs to vinegar. Observe the dilution proportions of the product. With this solution, wipe the inner walls and components cleaned of dirt, leave the surfaces to dry completely.
  • Dissolve the ammonia in water. Wipe the entire surface in the same way. It is not necessary to wash off the solution, as ammonia has "volatile" properties, and also disinfects well.
  • A mint-flavored toothpaste will work well on bad odor. It is enough to apply the product to the inner surface and rinse with cool water.

If, nevertheless, after cleaning the smell has not disappeared, then other methods will help you:

  • Place some coffee inside the refrigerator and close. Coffee is able to absorb odors.
  • Place the activated carbon on the shelves, it will absorb and thereby purify the air.
  • Cut raw potatoes and place them in different parts of the machine. The odors will not spread further.
  • Don't throw away citrus peels, they will also help cleanse and add a fresh scent.
  • Paradoxically, cat litter will help purify the air. Pour some filler into a small container and place on the shelf.
  • Dried rye bread is able to absorb all the smells.

How to clean the outside?

Once the cleaning procedure inside the cooling unit is complete, it is worth starting to wash the outer surface. Do not postpone this procedure, as you will save time:

  • Refrigerator doors are the dirtiest, so after making a soapy solution, carefully treat the entire surface, paying special attention to the door handles, it is on them that all the dirt is concentrated.
  • Remember to wash the top of the refrigerator. Disassemble all unnecessary things that are stored there.
  • The final moment remains to wash the back wall from cobwebs and accumulated dust.

Many people face the problem of how to remove stickers from the surface of the refrigerator. There are also effective tools for this:

  • You can remove the sticker with a stream of warm air; a device such as a hair dryer will help with this. A warm jet of air will help remove the pasted sticker in one stroke.
  • If, nevertheless, the stickers left a sticky mark, then ordinary vegetable oil will help to remove it. Apply some oil on a cotton pad and wipe the sticky area.

The condenser is a laborious cleaning process. Many people face condenser contamination. The alkaline agent Shumanit will help to clean it; it is used to remove fats from the surface.

Care rules

If the refrigerating chamber is cleaned at an enviable frequency, then you will save yourself from hard labor in the future, you will not need to spend a lot of time on general cleaning. To do this, there are a number of rules that must be followed daily:

  • Check the contents of the food every day. Throw away anything that has become unusable immediately.
  • Store food in airtight containers or containers to prevent odors from spreading throughout the apparatus.
  • Every day, wet the inside of the compartment, cleaning the walls and shelves from stains.

If you follow all the rules for care, then the refrigerator will always delight you with its radiant appearance and wonderful aroma.
