Cleansing the skin is the most important step in facial care. If the skin is problematic, acne often appears, this not only spoils the appearance, but also depletes the skin, making it loose, rough, flabby. In such cases, cleansing is even more important. For example, in such a situation, salicylic peeling is perfect.

      What it is?

      The use of salicylic acid in cosmetology has been successful for several decades, and despite the simplicity and cheapness of materials, it is still considered one of the most effective procedures for dealing with problem skin.

      Salicylic peeling refers to the chemical cleansing of the skin from keratinized particles. For the procedure, salicylic acid (BHA acid) with a concentration of 15 to 30% is used, depending on the situation and the complexity of the case. With the help of acid, dead skin flakes glued with sebum (sebum) dissolve perfectly, while not exerting any mechanical effect on the skin, as, for example, when using scrubs.

      Salicylic acid has a complex effect on the skin:

      • exfoliates dead skin particles;
      • “Turns on” the renewal processes, tones up;
      • helps to reduce the production of sebum;
      • prevents the development of inflammation, has an antiseptic effect;
      • fights blackheads;
      • has an anti-aging effect due to the launch of tissue regeneration processes;
      • dries out the inflamed areas of the skin;
      • brightens the skin.

      The acid is able to penetrate into the very middle layers of the epidermis, while stimulating the skin's own production of collagen, which is responsible for skin elasticity.

      Indications

      The main reasons for which it is worth using the salicylic peeling procedure:

      • problem skin with enlarged pores, excessive oiliness, acne, acne tendency;
      • post-acne, scars, increased pigmentation;
      • age-related skin changes, wilting and flabbiness;
      • seborrheic keratosis;
      • the presence of areas of skin on the body with increased roughness (often on the elbows and knees);
      • black spots;
      • hyperkeratosis (violation of the natural skin renewal process);
      • inflammation of the hair follicles.

      Contraindications

      Before the procedure you need to familiarize yourself with the contraindications:

      • herpes or fungal diseases in the active phase;
      • the period of pregnancy or breastfeeding;
      • open wounds, scratches, inflammations, burns in the area of the procedure;
      • rosacea;
      • age up to 14 years;
      • an allergic reaction to salicylic acid;
      • various kinds of dermatitis;
      • the use of drugs that lower blood sugar levels;
      • Do not do salicylic peeling in the summer, as the skin is injured after the procedure, and active sun rays can prolong the recovery period after peeling or even provoke pigmentation.

      Preparation

      The salicylic peeling procedure itself is very simple, but preparation for it is very important, as it can affect the conduct of the procedure itself and the duration of skin recovery after.

      1. It is advisable to start preparatory activities 14 days before the procedure.
      2. It is not recommended to steam the skin, including in a steam bath, hot bath, sauna.
      3. The skin needs to be protected from the effects of ultraviolet radiation, for this it is worth using special sunscreens with high SPF outdoors and refusing to visit the solarium.
      4. Cancel all exfoliating procedures, including home peels and scrubs.
      5. If desired, you can use the skin care lines before exfoliation. Some cosmetic companies produce this kind of products, a beautician may advise you.

      Carrying out

      The salicylic peeling procedure is carried out in several stages, regardless of whether you carry it out in the salon with a qualified specialist or at home.

      The salicylic peeling procedure in the salons is carried out most often using products with a high acid concentration - usually 25-30%. This procedure is referred to as a superficial-median peeling. Products with such a high salicylic acid content should never be used at home.

      The salon procedure consists of several stages.

      1. Skin cleansing. The face should be thoroughly cleaned of cosmetics and impurities.
      2. Preparation. A special agent is applied to the skin to increase the effectiveness of salicylic acid, it softens the upper layers of the epidermis and evens out the acid-base balance. The composition is washed off with water.
      3. Degreasing. The skin is degreased with lotion. In addition to removing excess fat, this product disinfects the skin.
      4. Acid application. Next, the active agent is applied directly, it can be in liquid or paste form. The acidic agent is applied to the areas of the face in a specific order, which depends on the thickness of the skin, its sensitivity and the presence of problem areas. As a rule, the first stage is application on the forehead and chin, then on the temples, after the cheeks and nose, and the final stage is the eyelids. After the top layer has dried, apply a few more, depending on your particular case. The last layer is kept for a couple of minutes and washed off. Depending on the composition of the agent used, the composition is washed off the face either with water, or with a special neutralizer. During the procedure, light tingling and tingling as a reaction to active ingredients is the norm. If an intolerable burning sensation is observed, then it is necessary to immediately wash off the composition.
      5. Completion. After the procedure, agents are applied that soothe the skin, promoting the fastest regeneration. These can be aloe-based gels, masks and creams.

      If you decide on the procedure for salicylic peeling at home, first of all you need to understand how to choose the right product. To carry out home peeling, you will need a product containing less than 20% acid in its composition, such preparations refer to surface peeling. Products with a higher acid concentration are already deeper and are not recommended for home care.

      In addition to determining the concentration of the acid, it is worth paying attention to the consistency of the selected product, a liquid is usually chosen for the face, and a pasty mixture for problem areas on the body.

      If finances do not allow you to purchase specialized products, you can prepare a home peeling product yourself.

      For cooking, you will need aspirin, honey and a fermented milk product (for example, kefir). For a couple of aspirin tablets (for dry skin it is worth using 1 tablet), a tablespoon of honey and kefir is taken.

      Another simple and common recipe is to mix acetylsalicylic acid (aspirin) with a fatty cream, 1-2 tablets for 1 teaspoon of cream, depending on the oiliness of the skin.

      In addition to acetylsalicylic acid, you can use pharmacy salicylic alcohol, it is sold in bottles and has an acid concentration of 1-2%. Based on this tool, such a peeling is done: mix a teaspoon of honey and half a teaspoon of baking soda, pour out half a bottle of 2% salicylic alcohol (usually in a 40 ml bottle) and mix.

      Honey appears in almost all recipes, as it acts as an excellent thickener and, in addition, has emollient properties and triggers skin regeneration processes.

      The procedure should be followed correctly during the procedure at home.

      1. Cleansing the face from cosmetics.
      2. Steaming the skin, applying a hot towel works well.
      3. It is convenient to apply the peeling agent with a brush, for example, for makeup.
      4. The exposure time varies depending on the recipe chosen. Usually, the mixture is left on the face for up to 10 minutes, and in the case of choosing a recipe with a fat cream, which is the most gentle, the exposure time can be increased to half an hour.
      5. If unpleasant sensations arise, you need to neutralize the acid as quickly as possible. For this, baking soda dissolved in water is used.
      6. After the required time, we wash off the composition from the face with warm water, you can also use a soda solution to neutralize acid residues. If a salicylic alcohol-based recipe is used, the use of a soda solution is impractical, since the mixture already contains baking soda.
      7. It is very important to apply moisturizer after exfoliating. Choose a cream that's right for your skin type. It is also good to use products that soothe the skin and trigger its renewal, for example, with aloe in the composition.

      Peeling procedures both in the salon and at home are carried out in regular courses with subsequent breaks. When contacting a beautician, he will be able to guide you, depending on your skin type and existing problems, with what frequency and with what composition it is better to carry out a salon peeling. At home, peeling is carried out with a frequency of 1 time in 10-14 days in courses of 5-7 times. Between courses take a break of at least 2 months.

      It is worth remembering that the use of chemical peeling is always a small burn of the surface tissues of the skin, so it is better to contact a specialist who can choose the right product, neutralize it in time in a critical situation and shorten the recovery time after the procedure as much as possible.

      Care

      After the procedure, a chemical burn is formed on the skin, depending on the concentration of the acid, it is stronger or less pronounced.

      You can observe the following symptoms:

      • temporary redness of the tissues;
      • tightness and dryness of the skin;
      • peeling.

      Therefore, the general recommendations for post-peeling care are:

      1. the first day you should not wash yourself with running water;
      2. regularly apply moisturizers and soothing products to the skin;
      3. protect the skin from exposure to ultraviolet rays when going outside, as unwanted pigmentation may appear;
      4. gradually the skin will peel off and peel off, in no case should you peel off pieces of skin, it is better to use a dexpanthenol-based anti-burn ointment during this period;
      5. at the time of peeling, refuse to visit the bathhouse, sauna, hot bath and pool;
      6. use nutritional and vitamin masks.

      After all the scales come off, the skin is noticeably transformed, it becomes more elastic, even, wrinkles are smoothed out.

      Means for post-peeling care during the salon procedure will be advised by a beautician.
