How to decorate a Christmas tree with ribbons?
A ribbon garland can be a very stylish decoration for a Christmas tree, especially if the branches are not too fluffy and thick. There are many types of ribbons and ways to decorate your Christmas tree. At the same time, there are no special rules on how to arrange them and combine them with other elements.
What tapes should I use?
A decorative ribbon garland is perfect for decorating Christmas trees that have clearings between the branches. With its use, it will be possible not only to achieve volume and masking, but also to add texture and color to the overall image, especially if you use wide ribbons for decoration. The main thing is that the Christmas tree decor does not look too overloaded. For the harmonious execution of the task, you can use some recommendations. Then the ribbons will look spectacular and organic, emphasizing the beauty of the forest beauty and the New Year's atmosphere.
Different types and types of tapes can be used for this purpose. First of all, you have to decide on the color scheme and style of decor. It is convenient to use ready-made bendable wire belts. Everything is very easy to attach and holds perfectly. Can't find beautiful flex ribbons? Just white will do. It remains to attach to it an ordinary textile tape of the desired color and texture.
Any combination of jewelry in a suitable color scheme is allowed. The Christmas tree decoration should be in harmony with the interior of the room or the festive style.
Various options are possible:
- decoration in one color;
- play on contrast;
- canvases of different colors.
Tape materials can be made from a variety of fabrics.
- Reps. These are dense and weighted products.They perfectly keep their shape and therefore often participate in the design of New Year's Christmas tree arrangements.
- Nylon. They are distinguished by their strength and weightlessness. Decorating them is a pleasure. It is especially good to make three-dimensional models.
- Satin. Suitable as garlands and for making bows and balls.
- Chiffon. It is easy to give the tree an airy, magical look with these lush stripes. Also, chiffon ribbons are easy to use in fragments, tying directly to the spruce branches.
- Organza. In the popular delicate powdery and pink shades on the tree, she's just gorgeous. Organza ribbon garland looks especially stylish, complemented by pink and milk toys with a shiny and matte surface.
- Brocade. Unusual, but very smart. A gold brocade ribbon in combination with toys in retro style looks luxurious. This is a sophisticated decor suitable for classic interiors, as well as for lovers of the Baroque and similar styles.
- Burlap. Stripes of this material visually seem rough and careless. But this option looks unusual on a Christmas tree, especially in combination with bright shiny balls and lush tinsel.
Design methods
Vertical
Cut the tape strip (preferably with a flexible base) into pieces of 60 x 120 cm. Starting from the very top, hide the upper edge of the cut in the spruce branches, and visually divide the remaining strip into two parts and duplicate the action for the middle. There is no need to over-stretch the belt. Some negligence, even a plus for the decor. Distribute the second section a little lower and duplicate the previous step. Decorate the entire tree by alternating different cuts and forming loops as shown in the photo.
Horizontal
There are no definite recommendations here. Free sequence is allowed. You can lay out the ribbons in islands, placing them at different levels.
Cascading
Decorating a Christmas tree with ribbons in a cascade with your own hands is easy if you read how to do it step by step. For this method, the tape does not need to be cut. It is located on the tree from the top down. Part of the tape must be tucked into the gaps between the branches. If the canvas does not hold, you can use a wire or a special plumbing cable.
Having reached the bottom, the excess fabric is trimmed so that the free edge touches the floor. This edge is tucked under the branches. Repeat sequentially for each part of the tree that you need to wrap to make 3-5 turns.
Spiral
This method assumes the location of the canvas at the top with the advancement of the tape downward. The type of decoration is quite popular, but to make it more attractive, it is better to use puckering, occasional pintucking, etc.
Double helix method
In this version of the decor, the two ribbons intersect. It looks very elegant and allows you to use tape canvases without additional manipulation with them.
"Tent"
In this version, as in the "cascade", several canvases are fixed on the top of the spruce and distributed, moving to the lower branches.
"Diagonal tent"
With this implementation of the decor with ribbons, the spiral direction of winding and the "tent" one are combined.
Diamond weave
Decorating a tree this way will take skill and skill. Small ribbons are knitted on one edge, and on the other, natural gifts are fixed in the form of cones, cinnamon sticks, nuts, etc. Often trees are decorated with lace frills.
All of these methods are considered basic, but not the only possible ones. If you want to decorate the spruce tree in an original way for the New Year, it is enough to be guided by your own imagination. Then you can get a very beautiful version of an exclusive design.
The only rule is to be guided by a sense of proportion, so as not to "overload" the tree with decor items.
Jewelry making
Bows
Such ribbon elements are very suitable for decorating a forest tree.It is not difficult to make such a decor with your own hands, especially when curious children act as apprentices. Christmas tree bows are made in two versions: in the color of the decoration of the tree or in contrast to it.
Styles can also be different:
- classical;
- "Provence";
- avant-garde;
- rustic.
The main thing is that the jewelry should be in harmony with each other and amuse the eye. The right place to start is by making the simplest bows. They are knitted directly on a branch or hung by a loop, like toys. Tapes require heat or machined edges. Twists and creases are unacceptable. You can't do without measurements, doing everything "by eye" is not a good idea.
If nodules are made, then only from the seamy side. The bonding areas need to be masked. It is recommended for beginner craftsmen to fold ribbons into bows using schemes. Watching master classes will also greatly facilitate your plans.
American bows
There are several varieties of such products, so there are many options for folding bows. The traditional version of the satin "American" bow:
- form "eights" from a tape of small width;
- fasten individual elements 2-3 pieces to each other; as a basis, several straight ribbons connected in the center can be used;
- fasten the two parts together, glue a bead, rhinestones or a miniature bow to the place of fixation;
- you can trim the edges with serrated scissors for more attractiveness.
Silk bows
A Christmas tree with silk bows turns out to be exquisite. We will describe how to make such jewelry according to the classic pattern.
- Take a red tape 5 cm wide and a white one, but twice narrower in width. Cut the red ribbon into 4 15 cm long pieces. Make five of the same segments from a white tape.
- Put white blanks in the middle of the red ones, and melt the edges with fire. It is convenient to do this with a candle or a lighter.
- Bend the trimmed strips in half to make them look like petals.
- Pass the needle through the edges, collecting the ribbon on the thread with a seam "forward needle". Fasten the thread in the middle, and decorate the bonding place with the remaining ribbon and glue a large bead.
Butterflies
This option is complicated, but the result is worth the effort. You will need wide satin and narrow ribbons (braid), thread, pins, or a stapler. Lay the tape 30 cm wide symmetrically in the form of a butterfly. In the middle, fix the structure with a stapler or fasten it with a safety pin. Tie narrow ribbons or braid of green and red colors with a fluffy bow with an air loop. The loop is attached to the base with a basting seam.
Balloons
"Artichoke"
A ball made of satin ribbons for Christmas tree decor is quite simple. To execute the idea, you will need two colors of tapes, a base and glue. A ready-made foam ball or a blank made of crumpled paper (unnecessary newspaper) is suitable as a basis. A cloth base is wound on a piece of paper.
"Kanzashi"
The use of a certain needlework technique is assumed. In the process, the strip blanks are rolled up according to a predetermined pattern and fixed with glue, forming a single piece. Zand a foam ball is taken as the basis.
- Cut the tape into squares (side equal to the width of the tape).
- Fold diagonally to form a triangle.
- Fold it in the middle.
- With tweezers, pinch the lower part to 2 mm and cut, melt the cut so that it does not bloom. Perfectly copes with the task of the thermal knife.
- Unscrew the part, after which the petal is ready.
Layered petals are obtained by placing squares on top of each other and repeating the above steps. Next, you need to connect the petals into a flower by stitching or glue them along the side parts with hot glue.
After reviewing suitable workshops, you can learn how to lay out spiral petals, with curls or round shapes with soft folds.
