Decorating the kitchen and other rooms in the house, apartment with your own hands is gaining popularity again. Hand-made design does not have to look "handicraft" or too simple - many different surface design techniques used by designers are quite accessible for ordinary people to master. An overview of the most popular options for such a decor will help you figure out how you can decorate a wall in a room with scrap materials.

Paper decor options

When deciding to decorate the wall in the room with improvised means with your own hands, you should not immediately take on complex tasks. It's worth starting with those decor options that are always at home.... Newspaper spreads, colored or foil coated, corrugated and smooth, can transform a boring surface. And also for decoration, you can use bright magazine pages, postcards and even napkins with pictures. The main thing is that the choice of material matches the designer's intention.

There are several popular options for paper decor.

Garlands

Light and bright decor options from colored tissue paper can become elements of space zoning or replace the usual carpet on the wall. It is enough to choose a template according to which the garland will be cut out, to cut a sufficient number of parts. As a base, you can take a tree branch by hanging threads with paper decorations strung on them to its surface.

If you take dense cardboard blanks, you can create an interesting replacement for blinds on a wall with a window.

Volumetric elements

They are made from several parts of the same shape and different sizes. Crafts are fastened directly to the wall surface using safety pins, double-sided adhesive tape or fishing line. The panel in the form of butterflies with fluttering bright wings looks spectacular - their flock looks great above the work table or at the head of the bed.

Decorative paper figurines may well be made using the technique origami... They are also hung in the form of garlands or simply attached to the wall.

Wall decoration with fabric

Textiles are one of the most ancient decor options. It can be found in the palaces of emperors and kings, in cozy Victorian living rooms. When decorating walls on a budget with improvised means, small scraps, ribbons, and other waste that usually lie idle can be used.

If at home there are many threads of floss, balls of wool, you can try yourself in creating a panel using the string art technique.

To create such a product, you will need the following set of components:

  • a piece of plywood, plank, or other wooden base;
  • ruler and pencil for marking;
  • hammer and nails.

At the request of the author, paints can be used in the work. Of course, you can't do without threads either. Safety pins and drape or felt can be used instead of planks and nails. To achieve the effect of a night light, you can pick up threads that have a luminescent effect.

The process of creating a panel looks simple.

  1. A drawing is applied to the base with a pencil. You can attach or pin a stencil.
  2. Carnations or safety pins are placed along the contour.
  3. Threads are wound on the resulting base, pulling them, like strings. This is how, by forming weaves, you can get an original panel.

String art requires attention and patience.... Experienced craftsmen create paintings directly on the surface of the wall, hammering nails into a wooden base as a base.

When owning a technique macrame you can weave a panel from threads of different colors, with original patterns. Woolen, silk, nylon fibers, linen threads are suitable.

Macrame involves the creation of patterns from nodes connected in a specific sequence.

Even a person without significant experience in needlework can master the simplest of them.

An interesting idea for decorating a wall can be pennant flag. It is fixed on a rounded wooden rail, suspended from a rope or tape. The edges are hemmed on a fabric base - the work should look beautiful and neat. A special hollow seam is also made under the rail, allowing it to be freely threaded inside. On the surface of the pennant with acrylic paints and markers, you can apply inscriptions or patterns.

Cloth scraps can be crafted into panel or volumetric decor for the wall. Parts are cut according to 1 template made of cardboard, then connected using a sewing machine. Such a patchwork carpet can be decorated around the edges with fringe, braid, lace, and give it any shape.

A simple panel is made by wrapping textile around the surface of a foam blank, a cardboard box, placing it in a frame. The order of work in this case will be as follows:

  • cut the fabric with a margin for the hem;
  • pull on the selected base, attach from the inside with a stapler or small nails, glue;
  • decorate the product with beads, lace and other elements.

Sometimes volumetric panels are made monochromatic. In this case, they are placed in a line from larger to smaller, fixed in the form of a modular square or rectangle.

Making compositions from photos

Formation of an elegant panel from family photos, nature views, images of pets - an excellent solution for any interior. Such compositions do not look trite, they emphasize the individuality of the character of the owner of the house. A gallery of pictures can be mounted without frames if you use different materials at hand. Let's list the most popular options.

  • Clothespins and rope... Such improvised garlands look great in a modern interior. Pictures are placed diagonally or horizontally. With vertical orientation, you can collect ribbons by analogy with paper garlands.
  • Clothes hangers... On them, pictures are attached with double-sided adhesive tape or miniature clothespins.
  • Cork board. To her, photographs are fixed using special pins or studs. This composition is fairly easy to update.
  • Branch... It is painted in a neutral color, used as a crossbar for attaching pictures to suspensions. This is a good option for decorating a family photo gallery.

When combining several images of different size or color, you must follow certain rules... There is no need to alternate between black and white and colorized shots. The largest images are always at the top, the smallest ones are at the bottom. It is important to compose the photo so that the frames with similar colors are close by.

Homemade panel

Homemade interior decorations can be made from unusual materials.... For example, owners of a collection of wine corks can easily turn them into an original panel using a candy box as a frame or body.

Operating procedure.

  1. Cut the plugs in height to one level.
  2. Make holes in the cardboard base of the box, fix the tape in them for hanging on the wall.
  3. Spread the inside of the box with PVA glue.
  4. Lay out the corks one at a time. Wait until they stick.
  5. Some of the corks can be decorated with paint or decorated with natural materials.

Such an impromptu panel looks very attractive and unusual. It can be placed in the interior of the kitchen or in the hallway, using it to convey notes or save important information by analogy with a cork board.

We use saw cuts

Among the options for interior decor from scrap materials, one of the most popular solutions is the use of wood cuts. They are made very simply by cutting a thick trunk or branch into separate round "slices" of the same diameter.

The bark from the blanks must be cleaned off, they are covered with varnish and tinting or protective impregnations.

Compositions on the wall made of wood cuts are good because they can be created in any order. In this design, the head of the bed looks good, the panel on the wall around the TV. The cuts are placed in concentric circles or laid out along the perimeter of a square, rectangle, sometimes placed in a frame. They are attached to the wall with small nails or directly on glue using construction "liquid nails" or other compounds with a maximum hardening rate.

Other decoration options

In the kitchen or living room, the simplest objects can be used as decoration elements. Several ideas deserve attention.

  • Mirrors... You can give them originality with the help of frames. They are finished using decoupage technique or framed with mosaics. In addition, the mirror panels themselves may well decorate a niche in the wall at the head of the bed or frame the ceiling with a curb.
  • Decorative plates. They are especially often used as a wall decoration in the kitchen. You can paint your own white dishes with acrylic paints, markers using stencils or in a point technique. The easiest way to create products with simple geometric ornaments, animal prints. Arrange the plates in a line, in a square, in a rhombus - so that they look as effective as possible.
  • Dots... The hooks of this model are similar to those used on cork boards. Their decorative part has different diameters, suitable for fixing bags, umbrellas. These elements are used to decorate the walls in the hallway or in a studio apartment with a free layout.
  • Hand painted... This method is only suitable for painted or carefully primed walls. You should not immediately aim at large-scale frescoes with complex subjects. You can do with stencils with a geometric pattern, and after painting, varnish the wall.
  • Stickers... They can be used to decorate a wall with wallpaper or a painted, plastered surface. Such decorations are made in whole collections, and sometimes even according to the customer's sketches. You can remove the interior sticker from the wall without damaging the base.
  • Empty frames. If desired, then they can be filled with applications or other compositions. But even without this, the geometric elements placed on the wall look very impressive, streamline the interior design. Contrasting compositions are especially effective - white on a black background, bright on gray or neutral beige.
  • Mosaic tiles. After renovation, a lot of dissimilar materials always remain in the house. From colored pieces, you can create a frame for a fireplace portal on the wall, form an original frieze or border. Protruding elements of niches, corners can also be finished with small-format ceramic tiles.
  • Paintings. Art objects look spectacular in any interior. But when placing them, it is worth using proportionate elements, giving them the role of a color spot or neutral detail. Pictures must be placed on a suspension in frames, while it is better to choose not reproductions, but author's works, even if for children. Graphics look good in minimalistic interiors, landscapes and still lifes with rich colors are well suited for decorating an office, kitchen.

Each of these methods is good in that it allows you to add originality to the design of the walls with a minimum investment of time and effort.
