Today it is difficult to surprise anyone with living snails at home. These leisurely exotic pets do not require careful maintenance and are distinguished by longevity. Albino snails called Achatina fulica albino have won the special love of breeders. Their shell and body are white. Exotic molluscs look spectacular and look amazing in a indoor terrarium.

Description

Achatina fulica is one of the most famous species of exotic snails. Introduced to Europe from East African countries. In its historical homeland, the "giant" snail is considered a pest that destroys agricultural crops. For Europeans, Achatina fulica has become an unpretentious and calm pet. Also, this mollusk is widely used in cosmetology and cooking. Albino snails are of particular interest to breeders. Their body and shell are painted in snow-white color.

Such creatures look very impressive in their home and will not be lost sight of while walking around the owner's apartment.

The adult Achatina fulica albino is characterized by a strong shell (at least 12 cm) and a long elongated body. Some individuals living at home grow more than 15 cm in length. Unusual mollusks grow rapidly only for the first 6 months, then growth slows down. Albinos weigh 400-600 grams.

The shell of a large snail is “decorated” with coils (from 6 to 8 pieces). The front of the body has 2 pairs of tentacles. The first is short and acts as the organs of smell and touch. The second pair is much longer; the eyes of the mollusk are located on it. The body of albinos has a cream or snow-white hue. Its structure is moist and slimy.The snail easily "protrudes" from the shell at any time.

Subspecies

Breeders inThere are several varieties of albinos.

  1. Childbirth. Amazing giant clams with a dark body and a bright yellow shell. Unpretentious pets with an original color are very popular among breeders.
  2. Hemeli. A subspecies of snails, which are characterized by the presence of an albino shell. In most cases, such animals are yellow and pinkish-white in color. After crossing Achatina albino hemeli, a brood is obtained that is completely identical in appearance to its "parents".
  3. White jade. Adorable albino snails with a rather capricious disposition. "Blossom" during puberty. The shell darkens, and the body acquires a snow-white shade. When crossed, white jade "transfers" its external data to the offspring.

Besides, there are pure albino snails... They are called Achatina hemeli rhodation albino body. Their body and shell are white and have no blotches or shades. Experts do not give an exact answer whether such creatures exist in natural conditions - they were bred by crossing albino and genus.

Maintenance and care

Fulica albino achatina do not require careful maintenance and special equipment. However, there are some rules for keeping albinos.

  1. A rectangular aquarium or other capacious container is suitable for living. It is undesirable to close the lid completely - the snails need fresh air.
  2. The ambient temperature varies from 25 to 28 degrees. Humidity - not less than 75%.
  3. A suitable "filler" is coconut substrate or a mixture of peat and sand. Sawdust, small pebbles and sand will not work. The substrate layer should not exceed 10–12 cm. Sharp objects and fertilizers are strictly prohibited. It is recommended to add husks from seeds or peanuts to the substrate. It is enough to change the "filler" 1-2 times a month. Achatina like to move around the walls of the aquarium, it can also signal high humidity in the "home".

In terms of food, albino snails eat plant foods. Their diet consists of:

  • fresh cucumbers and tomatoes;
  • lettuce leaves;
  • potatoes;
  • carrots;
  • bananas;
  • greenery;
  • beets.

It is best to use separate bowls for food and drinking water, which are prominently displayed in the enclosure.

      Achatina fulica albino needs a constant source of calcium carbonate. Thanks to him, the shell becomes solid and dense. At home, a piece of special chalk or eggshells is placed in the aquarium for the Achatina. Otherwise, snails begin to gnaw on the shells of their "neighbors". Note that all Fulika Achatina are hermaphrodites. Adults have female and male reproductive organs. Snails are capable of self-fertilization in low populations.

      Albino snails are capable of laying up to 300 eggs per month. For the normal development of embryos, an air temperature of 24 to 26 degrees is required. At low temperatures, "babies" can die.
