Party ideas in the style of the USSR
Whatever one may say, but even bright parties sooner or later become boring, if they are always of the same type. I would like the holiday to be remembered, but for this it is necessary that it be somehow uncommon, unlike all the others. If the celebration itself is directly related to the Soviet era (for example, May 1 or the anniversary of a person of an age who remembers well those times), it may be appropriate to organize a party in the style of the USSR.
Registration
A themed party in the style of the USSR will definitely not succeed if the organizers cannot find the necessary attributes and correctly decorate the premises. If you do not chase a specific time period like the 30s or 80s, you can try to build a location for a holiday with your own hands in the conditions of almost any apartment.
To do this, you will have to thoroughly rummage through grandmother's reserves in order to find all the characteristic signs of a bygone era - the old press and posters of communist content, Soviet toys, pioneer accessories (red tie, drum, pennant, bugle), records and a player for them, abacus, lamp with lampshade.
In a word, there are a lot of options, but for our purpose anything that would look a little strange today, but was very relevant in those days, is suitable.
However, accessories alone cannot create a full-fledged atmosphere. Add a touch of nostalgia by laying down a rug with the words "Wipe your feet" at the entrance, and in the hallway, attach a sign with the words "Wardrobe" and be sure to give guests numbers, which can then be used as accessories for drawing forfeits.
The table should also be decorated correctly. In the USSR, they loved the red color very much, but one should not overdo it with it, because in large quantities it puts pressure on the psyche. For this reason, a red tablecloth will suffice, and if not, use a fringed tablecloth.
A simple vase with wildflowers or the same decanter of water and faceted glasses will very vividly fit into the composition.
You can't do without posters on the walls. There shouldn't be any difficulties with them - download a few typical examples of those times and print or even play a little with Photoshop, if you know how, and you have a good idea. The Audience Award for plausibility will be given to a banner made of red fabric with a white-letter slogan on it in the theme of the holiday, as well as a large map of the Soviet Union. Portraits of film and pop artists of that time will also be relevant (then they were not called stars).
Do not forget about the guests' leisure - you can make a "board of honor" from their black-and-white photographs, having come up with a funny title in the Soviet style for each guest.
If you have a selection of Soviet periodicals, be sure to stack it somewhere in the corner on the coffee table.
How to invite and greet guests?
While you are decorating the party space, future guests also need to think about their wardrobe, so you can't do without preliminary invitations sent out a week or two before the event. They also need to be formalized accordingly, for example, write the text on an old postcard or print it on a telegraph form, which can also be found on the net. In those days, personalized invitations were also handed out. You can also simply download the same posters and print them at a greatly reduced size, turning them into postcards.
If you are ready to take this seriously, you can make special certificates or even party cards for the invitees and let them into the party only for them.
It is also necessary to fill out the invitation in the spirit of those times. Write pompously and with aplomb, indicate the reason for the meeting and the dress code. Organize a direct meeting of guests according to the logic of what event and in what location you are planning.
What to treat?
The Soviet Union is a unique phenomenon, although it was not about any specific people, it actually had its own national cuisine. More precisely, this is a list of some delicacies that, in the absence of the proper variety, were considered mandatory on any good festive table. Today, the choice of products in stores is much wider, but this is the subtlety - we completely forgot about the dishes that were popular in those days, and therefore they will add a lot of color.
If we talk about some central dishes, which in reality will determine the "festivity" of the table, then there must be at least something from the obligatory list, which includes the good old Olivier salad, herring under a fur coat and jellied fish. Otherwise, there are no delights - all the dishes are very simple and, in a sense, even everyday, but a little forgotten: ordinary boiled potatoes with dill, slicing good smoked sausage, inexpensive canned fish like sprat in tomato sauce and sprat, homemade pickled cucumbers, processed cheese.
A kind of "trick" of those times was squash caviar, or rather, sandwiches with it. If possible, you can use red or black caviar, but in Soviet times there were no “new Russians” yet, so do not smear the whole bread - put a small hill in the middle.
When choosing a sweet one, one shouldn't put too much emphasis on modernity. From what has survived to this day almost unchanged - Alenka chocolate and Bird's milk sweets... Various rolls with cream, eclairs and cakes by type «Baskets».
Among drinks, the inevitable nostalgia will be caused by lemonade in a glass container - this is still produced by some manufacturers.Always appreciated in the USSR and ordinary homemade compote, which must be served in three-liter cans. Fans of something stronger will have to choose between champagne, classic vodka or Armenian cognac, but then it is necessarily expensive.
If you don't find any old-fashioned-looking drinks on sale, you can print old-time labels and re-glue them neatly.
Choosing an image
A party in the style of Soviet retro will not be so colorful if the guests do not arrive in costumes of that time. Consider the most popular ideas on how to dress brightly and at the same time in a theme.
Men
The owner of the house greets guests in the form of a certain party leader - you can directly select a historical character and copy his image as much as possible.
In fact, we will just talk about a classic-cut suit - emphatically solemn, without the newfangled chips that are popular today in clothing for young people.
Guests have even more options for images. For lovers of brightness, the image of a dandy is perfect - a bright jacket, flared trousers or "pipes" can be found on sale today. The image of a schoolboy will be very colorful - a dark (black or blue) bottom and a white top. As an option, dress up as a pioneer: then the bottom will definitely be blue, but you also need a red tie, a mandatory garrison cap and, if possible, a bandage on the sleeve.
A special proletarian flavor will appear if a man comes by the arm with a "collective farmer" and in a worker's suit - this is some kind of light shirt with rolled up sleeves, imperfectly ironed, but beautiful, and slightly short trousers. And you can also come in the image of a Soviet athlete - now it is considered wildly tasteless, but before many people, without hesitation, walked down the street in tracksuits.
Women
For a girl holding a party in her house, you can come up with quite a few images that reveal the lady from the best side and at the same time fit perfectly into the Soviet reality. You can dress like a teacher, pioneer leader, or even just a typical Komsomol athlete. All these images can be found on the Internet, and copying them today will not be difficult.
The young lady accompanying the dude is simply obliged to come in a bright dress, best of all, with polka dots. For a "schoolgirl", the optimal outfit is a uniform brown dress with a white apron over it, as well as white knee-highs and always emphasized large bows. The pioneer dresses the same way as her pioneer friend, except that instead of blue trousers, she has a strict blue skirt.
The image of the "collective farm woman" will be very striking: a discreet and obviously inexpensive, but relatively elegant blouse with polka dots, a six-ribbed skirt of a classic cut and monochromatic colors, as well as an expressive headscarf, from under which small braids will be knocked out.
For women, not only the costume itself is of particular importance, but also the hairstyle, which must also correspond to the fashion of that time. If the image of a lady as a whole imitates a representative of ordinary strata of the population, then nothing more complicated than a ponytail or a pigtail decorated with a bow should not be invented.
Girls with lush long hair will be interested in the "palm" - a very popular Soviet hairstyle, which is a high ponytail with several colored elastic bands. Curling or fleecing is already a solution for the images of the late Soviet era and obviously not for a "collective farm woman".
It is worth mentioning also about the make-up. In the 70s and 80s, cosmetics in the USSR were already widely available and were used very confidently, in large quantities.
If you want to match the image, then do not be shy: thoroughly guide your eyelashes, make expressive arrows on the eyelids and draw a blush.
Musical accompaniment
With the selection of music, in fact, everything is quite simple - at least if we are talking about the times not earlier than the 70s.Then, as today, the stage was already quite hyped, and the most famous performers sounded literally from every "iron" and are still recognizable even by those people who did not live under the Soviet Union. If you are doing some kind of narrow-profile party in the Soviet style, then you will have to work with the playlist, and in general cases, songs of such performers as, for example, groups are fine. "Tender May", "Bravo", "Earthlings", "Combination", "Pesnyary", "Secret".
Do not forget that Alla Pugacheva and Sofia Rotaru also began their careers in the USSR, which means that their early work will also do.
A separate topic is an impromptu concert by the efforts of one of the guests, which can become a real decoration of the evening. In the days of the absence of the Internet, multichannel television and a wide variety of music and entertainment, people who could sing and play the guitar were extremely highly valued in the company. Those who will be in charge of the cultural program will have to specially prepare in order to learn the popular hiking songs of those times - pioneer, geological, and so on.
Please note that pop songs were not usually sung around the fires, which means that you should not.
It should be specially clarified that part of the Soviet musical culture categorically cannot be used at an event in the Soviet style, since many figures of Soviet music in the 1980s sharply criticized the system, including in their songs. The songs of the Kino group and many other rock performers, despite their still living popularity, are not suitable for the holiday, both because of the seriousness of their content and the impossibility of dancing to them, and because at one time many were considered anti-Soviet. If so, at a typical Soviet party, they are inappropriate either from speakers or live with a guitar.
Competitions and entertainment
Although now many of us do not even manage to imagine how people were having fun several decades ago, in fact, it is not so difficult to come up with an original entertaining scenario based on the plot of Back to the USSR, and for any age - whether it is 50, 60 or 70 years old. Even for older participants celebrating their birthday and hardly planning to dance a lot, many Soviet-era games are available, since most of them were intellectual.
Do not forget that any game can be made much more exciting by giving out small incentive prizes to the winners, of course, also thematic, for example, notebooks, pencils, Soviet magazines or coins, even the same sprat in a tomato!
We have already said above that people who can sing were highly valued, but at the same time absolutely everyone sang around the fire, and it’s even a little strange that karaoke was not invented in the USSR. But this technology is now - choose a repertoire from the songs of old Soviet movie hits, and to make it even more fun, dilute it with a repertoire of cartoons.
Soviet citizens were considered a mass reading nation, because it was assumed that the average citizen's erudition is quite high. For this reason, it is appropriate, for example, guessing riddles - again, about Soviet reality, not children or "computer" ones. You can arrange it in the form of an ordinary quizby inviting the participants to answer various questions about Soviet life. Another interesting version of the game is take famous phrases from films of that era, voice them and ask the participants to guess the author of what was said in a race.
If the participants themselves are still quite active, you can add a little action to the entertainment. For example, no need to guess the authors of catch phrases - you need to remember them yourself and voice them out as quickly as possible, as much as possible, in order to get ahead of the competition! Or arrange a speed competition - who will quickly tie a tie (even for himself, even for a friend) or build a garrison cap from an ordinary sheet of newspaper.
Creative guests will surely like the idea of coming up with new decryptions for abbreviations that are very popular in the USSR, like VDNKh - "friends met, we are good."
It is unlikely that a winner in such a competition can be identified, but the ideas voiced can amuse everyone present and cheer up.
You can also sum up the party with a competition that no one expected, for example, you can poll guests for a winner in the nominations "Best Suit" and "Best Haircut", as well as "Drummer of Dance Labor" or "Excellent Competition". You can also come up with a kind of "Book of Complaints and Suggestions" - if the guests complain, it will be joking, but they will actively praise the organizer, and the latter will be pleased to re-read their reviews about the holiday in the future.
