Captivating men with your beauty is not at all difficult. This is clearly shown by Berenice Marlowe in the movie "Agent 007: Skyfall". And here you cannot do without the same seductive evening dress. An outfit with a deep neckline, play with transparency, black silk and thin lace will favorably present the figure and turn the head of any man.

Let's take a step-by-step look at creating with our own hands a charming floor-length dress with lace inserts for a gala evening.

Pattern

Transfer the details from the layout diagram below to paper, increasing them according to your size. To build a pattern, you can use the RedCafee program or simulate using a base pattern.

Remember to add 1.5 cm for the cut and seam allowances, and 4 cm for the hem.

Cut open

Cut out 2 pieces of black, well-draped crepe:

  • middle parts of the front (1) and back (6);
  • the connecting part of the front (2);
  • cups (4);
  • 2 bias inlays for edging the neck cuts (a). Width should be 3 cm including allowances.

Made of openwork fabric with a double-sided scalloped edge, also on 2 details open:

  • side parts of the front (3) and back (7);
  • shoulder yokes of the front (5) and back (8);
  • sleeves (9).

From the lining fabric, cut out 2 parts each according to the layout.

Note that the bottom edge of the sleeve should be aligned with the scalloped edge.

Necessary details for an evening dress to the floor

Sewing

  • Gather and evenly distribute the edges on the center back, connecting and center sections of the front between the star marks.
  • Cut out 2 cups from volumenfleise, center (10) and connecting (11) front elements. Baste them with seams on similar front and cups out of base fabric (black crepe).

Stitching front and back details

  • Stitch the center pieces of the front. Attach a strip of lining fabric to the gathered part to secure the seam. Start sewing from the marked line of the cups stitching seam. Then stitch the connecting parts of the front to the central ones, also fixing the seam in the assembled places using backing strips.
  • Baste lace elements over similar flesh-colored fabrics and treat them as one-ply. Sew the side pieces of the front to the connecting pieces. Connect the side and middle parts of the backrest.
  • Sew the shoulder seams on the yokes. Cut the seam allowances, sweep them together and press back.
  • Make a edging with oblique trims of the cuts of the necklines on the yokes.

Grinding cups

  • Baste the front shoulder yokes to the cups.
  • Fold the crepe and lining cups face to face. Stitch the top edges to secure the shoulder yokes. Cut off the seam allowances. Turn the backing fabric over your face and stitch over the seam allowances on it. Sweep the details of the cups at the sides and bottom. Sew them to the front, aligning the front edges at the mid-front line. Leave them lying in front.
  • Sew middle and raised seams on the front of the lining. Neaten the bottom of the front. Fold the front and lining face to face and stitch the top edge to secure the cups. Unscrew the backing and stitch over the seam allowances. Then sweep the front and lining sides together.

Sewing in zippers

  • Sew the concealed zipper to the center edges of the back.
  • Sew the center halves from the bottom end of the fastener.

Sewing lining

  • Attach the shoulder yokes of the back to the upper cut of the back from the cross marks.
  • Make embossed seams on the back of the lining. Neaten the bottom of the parts.
  • Sew the lining to the invisible zipper. Sweep the side cuts of the crepe fabric back and baste the lining.
  • Sew the side seams.
  • Press the hem allowance to the wrong side of the dress and sew it by hand.

Sewing sleeves

  • Notch the sleeve allowances at the cut marks.
  • Sew French seams on the sleeves. To do this, sew the folded part and turn both allowances alternately inward, and then baste. Make sure they have the same width. Fold both allowances together, baste and sew 1-2 mm apart.
  • Make a narrow hem along the edges of the sleeves. Sew on buttons and sew air loops.
  • Sew on the sleeves.
DIY evening dress

We have considered all the stages of sewing a dress to the floor. And the most important thing that was not mentioned was the fitting. It should be done as often as possible in order to adjust the width, length of the dress and the depth of the armhole along the way.

Good luck with your DIY sewing. Be irresistible!

An evening dress to the floor should be sewn only if you have the appropriate skills. Two years ago I tried to sew such a dress as my first experience. It turned out not what I wanted. Got practice, now I will try again.
