Popular cycling routes in Moscow

One-day cycling trips in Moscow are a memory for a lifetime. Even if you are at least three times a native Muscovite, this city is fraught with so much beauty and history that not a single citizen can say: “I know everything here, nothing is interesting to me”.

Moscow is inexhaustible, it is beautiful and mysterious, unknowable and endless. And if you are a fan of cycling, be sure that you can devote your whole life to this, always find an interesting and new route around the city and the Moscow region.

Many popular cycling routes are already mapped.

Fans of unbeaten paths can always come up with new paths on their own, create their own bike tour.

For the attention of those who do not want to bother themselves with drawing up an individual plan, routes are offered to interesting places. Take a ride along the beautiful embankments, see many bridges, visit Domodedovo, admire the temples, old and new Moscow.

There are many bike tours available for experienced hikers. Some of them take several days, others are laid over difficult sections with difficult road conditions. For example, 40 kilometers of sandy roads are equated by experienced cyclists with 70 kilometers on a hard dirt road or on a flat highway.

Weekend routes, cycling along the night avenues of Moscow shimmering with colorful lights, fabulous Arbat, Red Square and much more... For those who love nature, but do not want to travel outside the city limits, there are park routes. Among them Kuzminki manor - Lublin park - Lublino manor and so on... For the experienced, ready-made routes have been developed with a length of 50 kilometers or more, with overnight stays in hotels or in the open air in tents, if there is a desire to go on a trip with luggage.

4 bridges

The track unites Yakimanka, Khamovniki, Dorogomilovo, Arbat. The city authorities claim that this is the main and longest cycle track in Moscow. Its length is 16 kilometers, the route starts from the Muzeon Park and the Crimean Bridge, and finishes in the Victory Park. Throughout the route, cyclists will enjoy a comfortable, calm ride along a wide three-meter track. The traffic is unhurried, there are no crowds and collisions.

You can calmly admire the surrounding landscape throughout the trip, sometimes urbanistic, sometimes pastoral, when the path dives into Neskuchny Sad, passes through Vorobyovy Gory. The route runs along the magnificent embankments, bypassing 4 bridges along the way, which earned this name.

For those who have already tried the route, you can slightly change it. Turn right from Vorobyovskaya embankment and drive along Berezhkovskaya and Taras Shevchenko embankment. Then go towards Moscow City, admiring the Bagration, Borodinsky, Novoarbatsky bridges along the way. This solution will shorten the road by 3 kilometers, but it will be possible to admire a magnificent view of the hotel "Ukraine".

8 Soviet parks

One of the most fun city trails... The cycling path starts from Izmailovsky Park and leads to Sokolniki. Then, crossing the park and Melenkovskaya station, the track will smoothly lead to VDNKh, along Star Boulevard and Sheremetyevskaya street to Festivalniy, then to Catherine parks. Along Bolshaya Gruzinskaya Street to Presnensky Park. After that, it remains to pass several embankments, Khamovnichesky Val, Neskuchny Sad and finish at Leninsky Prospekt.

"Green" routes are offered to the attention of lovers of silence and primordiality. For those who are tired of breathing city dust on weekdays, there is a great opportunity to enjoy the clean air, filled with the scent of the forest, and the singing of birds. Be alone with nature, or have a picnic with your family, in the company of friends.

At the same time, one must remember the safety rules - do not make fires in the wrong places, do not leave trash behind.

  • Borisov ponds... The length of the route is from 8 to 30 km. After a major renovation, the park has many new cycle paths located near the ponds. The beach is equipped, sun loungers are installed, where you can relax, dine, relax, swim.
  • Izmailovsky Park. The length of the route is 11 kilometers, it runs through the park and goes to three metro stations: Izmailovskaya, Shosse Entuziastov, Partizanskaya.

  • Fili - Filevsky Park, part of the natural-historical complex of Moskvoretsky Park. The park's cycle path was built using new technology. Its coating does not absorb water, so riding on it after rain gives a special feeling. From the same route you can get to the Krylatskie Hills.

  • Bitsevsky Park. There are many paths, some run along the outskirts, others go deep into the thick of the forest, but in any case, it is most convenient to start from the metro station. After that, you can decide how to distribute the route.

Along the Yauza to the city center

This route covers many metro stations, including Cherkizovskaya, Sokolniki, Partizanskaya and so on. Cyclists characterize it with a trail with not very good coverage, but this does not interfere with its popularity. Despite the shortcomings, the coating is quite usable, and as an excuse, the route gives you a trip without traffic lights, blockages and pedestrians. The route ends with a length of 17 kilometers in the city center.

From SEAD to Zaryadye

The route starts from the Maryino station along Lyublinskaya street, goes to the center, turns to Pererva. Along Pererva to Grafitnaya-Ilovaiskaya, then it will take an effort to carry your bicycles (let them rest) across the overpass. After the travelers go to the Pechatnikovsky Park. In the park you can relax, enjoy the green twilight, the singing of birds, the scent of forest air, and again on the road. The road lies on the embankment of the Moskva River towards the center.

Losinoostrovsky park

One of the largest forests in the capital... There is a bicycle rental, excellent bike paths, an observation deck on Babaevsky pond. Great views open up from here, and this is where everyone usually starts their route. Abramtsevskaya glade leads to Bumazhnaya glade. But if travelers go north from Paper Glade, they will find themselves at the Losinaya biological station.

Behind it there are several more wonderful places: the Bird Garden, the Arboretum. If cyclists are not tired, then, having driven higher and further, they will see a beautiful pond called Elk. A little to the left will be a Glade of fairy tales. In general, all the routes of Losiny Island can be considered family ones, as, incidentally, it has already become.

A lot of married couples with children ride and relax here.

Parks in the West and the road to the center

The western part of the capital has provided two excellent cycling tours in parks for recreation and skiing. The Krylatsky hills serve as the beginning of the route, then amazing panoramic views of the capital follow as a continuation. Right in the park there is the Lata-trek ski complex, from which you can go down to Filevskaya embankment, bypassing three parks along the way. These are green areas with courageous names: Soldatenkovsky, Suvorovsky, Voroshilovsky. From Fili Park, the route will lead to Krasnopresnenskiy Park.

Western aristocracy

Two more parks are proud to have new bike paths of excellent quality. Victory Park, Setun Park, where skiers can admire the Mosfilm Lake. After that, bypassing the Swedish Embassy, cyclists come to Vorobyevskaya Embankment, then to Moscow State University or Vorobyovy Gory.

Other

The above paths are just a small part of what the capital can provide for cycling enthusiasts.

  • Short, but a wonderful route through the Botanical Garden, where you can not only listen to birds and admire rare plants. Vacationers will gladly breathe in the fragrant air, enjoy the silence, the Japanese garden, ponds with water lilies and an amazing rose garden. After a walk in the garden, they go to Ostankino Park and end their journey at VDNKh.

  • Acquaintance with the history of the city, modern and past centuries, will take place along the route: Smolenskaya Square - Patriarch's Ponds - Samotechnaya - Catherine Park - Tsvetnoy Boulevard - Maroseyka - Kitaygorodsky passage - Moskvoretskaya embankment. On this route you can see both the new Moscow and the old one.

Overview of cycling routes in the Moscow region

Not only and not so much Moscow can boast of its beauty - the Moscow region is overflowing with picturesque landscapes and unique historical sites. Cycling in the Moscow region can be done along many routes. They are all designed with varying degrees of difficulty in mind. They can be used by beginners, inexperienced cyclists, as well as mountain bikers, for whom tens of kilometers of challenging trails across rough terrain and various types of soil are what they dream of during the long winter.

Lopatinskie quarries

Quite a difficult route to the Lopatinskie quarries, where only 10% of asphalt awaits travelers, the rest is dirt roads, of which a considerable part is sandy. It is difficult to keep balance on the sand, when driving slowly, you have to give your best physically, and it will be extremely difficult for an untrained cyclist to maintain the track. But the landscapes and the atmosphere of the ultimate goal are worth it to get there, sparing no effort.

The impression is amazing - as if people are going to another planet. Despite the reclamation of phosphorite quarries, and perhaps thanks to it, the quarries turned into something beyond. Multi-colored lakes - blue, light blue, yellow, deep gutters, a snow-white mountain, high steep "banks" covered with pine forest, planted after the termination of work, create a unique atmosphere.

The unreal picture is completed by a rusting walking excavator as high as a five-story building and resembling the skeleton of a huge monster of the Kaliyug era. Smaller machinery nearby exacerbates this feeling. The length of the route is 48 km, the area is 88 km, the line of the route: Moskvoretskaya - Horlovo - Lopatinskie quarries - about. Berezovka - Chelokhovo - Moskvoretskaya.

Lake Torfyanka

The route is more suitable for cycling in beautiful places in the Moscow region. Beginner cyclists are welcome to take this tour. The track runs mostly on an asphalt road, in some places turning into solid ground. It starts in Moscow, passes through parks and goes to the city of Korolyov.

Leaving at the Bolshevo stop and visiting the Peat lake, after swimming, tourists go to the Losiny Ostrov park to look at the beautiful places. There is only one difficult place along the way. For about a kilometer, you will have to drive through the mud, in places to carry your bike. The length of the route is 36 km: Moscow - Bolshevo - Torfyanka - Losiny Ostrov - Botanical Garden.

Options for cyclists with children

For families where the children are still small and are not able to ride bicycles around the city with their parents on their own, it is best to spend time in parks such as VDNKh, Fili and others, where there are rental points. There you can take not only adult versions of bicycles for one, but also tandems.

They will be offered fun family three-, four-seater bicycles with an overhead awning. They can be fun to ride with the whole family. There is always an opportunity to take a baby bike for your baby. If there is a desire, there will always be opportunities.
