The bicycles made in Austria by KTM deserve attention from consumers. The production has been operating since 1934. The production of bikes is now handled by a division of KTM Fahrrad GmbH. Let's see what it has to offer.

Double suspension

The Scarp Sonic 12 stands out in this category. This bike comes with 20 "wheels by default. The frame size can be 17, 19 or 21 inches. It turns black. The total weight of the product reaches 9.2 kg, since such a light material as carbon is used in the manufacture of the frame.

The shock absorber and fork, designed for the optimal combination of air and oil, will help you overcome absolutely any obstacle in your path.

Hydraulic disc brakes allow you to stop when you need it. Other characteristics are as follows:

  • professional class of attachments;
  • fork travel 0.1-0.15 m;
  • 12 working speeds;
  • the ability to block the shock absorber.

Scarp Prestige 12 also equipped with 29 "wheels. The dimensions of the frame, its material and colors are the same as those of the previous model. However, the total weight of the structure is slightly higher - 9.6 kg. This double suspension is designed for travel in the mountains and other difficult terrain. Good brakes from Magura don't let you down.

Alternatively, you can consider Scarp Elite 12. Everything is predictable, even the same 29-inch wheels and frame structure. The grips and brakes are made at the Shimano factories, which will delight people who are at least minimally versed in cycling technology. The weight of the product reaches 9.6 kg. Riding at 12 different speeds is provided.

Hardtail

An example of a bike in this category is the Myroon Sonic 12. Again, it has exactly 29-inch wheels and a definitely black frame. But the size of the frame can be not only 15, 19, but also 21 inches. Brake discs are supplied by the famous Shimano concern, which also supplies:

  • chain;
  • cassette;
  • carriage;
  • connecting rod.

The bike weighs 8.1 kg.

The Myroon Alpha 22 also deserves attention. The frame is made of carbon. Fork travel is 0.1-0.15 m. 22 speeds are provided by default and the rear derailleur is Shimano-made.

Road

A prime example of an Austrian bike for conquering highways with different road conditions is Revelator Lisse Prestige 22... The dimensions of the wheels in this case are 28 inches. The size of the frame varies from 0.52 to 0.57 m (with an intermediate dimension of 0.55 m). The shifters are manufactured at Sram. The same firm supplies switches, brakes and brake discs.

An alternative can be considered Strada 1000 20-s. 28-inch wheels support a 0.49-0.57 m frame, painted in orange or black. Shifters, bottom bracket, hubs, derailleurs and brakes are available from Shimano.

The bicycle manufacturer produces rims and seat posts independently. The default is 10 speeds. The total weight of the structure is 10.1 kg. But the assortment of "Austrians", of course, does not end with the indicated categories. It is worth paying attention to other target groups as well.

Tourist SUVs

The presence of bicycles in this category makes it possible to justify the fundamental lack of in the official Aera catalog 27 inches. For reference: there are only versions in that line with 29-inch wheels. Well, in the tourist segment, products stand out favorably. Legarda Race models, the circumference of the wheels is 28 inches. Frame sizes range from 0.46 to 0.6 m. The frame is designed to withstand off-road conditions.

A Suntour fork, shifters, Shimano derailleurs and proprietary (produced by KTM itself) steering columns help to solve this problem. The brakes, by the way, are made in a Japanese company.

Going to conquer off-road, you can sit on horseback and Life Cross 27 Disc H. Its 28-inch wheels cope even with rather difficult driving conditions. The size of the frame is from 450 to 600 mm.

Urban

For riding around the city, you can use models of bicycles with 24 "wheels because there you rarely have to overcome extreme off-road conditions. But if you still like devices with large propellers, then you should pay attention to the model Oxford 28.9. The attractive features of the device have a lot to do with the Urban Alloy frame. The fork on this model is rigid and not adjustable. A significant part of the components, including the brakes and the bottom bracket, are imported from Japan.

Alternative urban models:

  • Kent;
  • Chester;
  • Tourella;
  • City Line;
  • City Fun.

Mountain

An example of a mountain bike from an Austrian brand is Chicago. Obviously, 16 "wheels are absolutely indispensable here - and larger propellers are needed. For them, the matter did not become - the company provided for equipping its device with 29-inch wheels. The frame is made of aluminum. The fork travel is 0.1 m; no shock absorber is provided, but even without it, thanks to 24 speeds, you can ride quite well.

Alternatives include:

  • Myroon 29;
  • Aera Comp;
  • Ultra Race;
  • Ultra Fun;
  • Ultra Fire.

Baby

The manufacturer's lineup also includes bikes designed for children. An expressive example can be considered Wild Speed 26.24 Disc M. The 26-inch wheels pass over obstacles quite confidently. The Suntour XCE 28 Coil-9QR fork also helps with this. At an earlier age, the Wild Cross 24.18 Street can be purchased, fitted with 24-inch wheels. It is noted that the Suntour SF15 M3010-P fork works quite stably, as does the Ritchey OE Logic Zero steering column.

Selection recommendations

Choose a bike from KTM in the same way as other brands. The first step is to determine the desired use case. So, it makes no sense to buy mountain models for those who are just going to go to the store or to work. On the contrary, ordinary road models will immediately disappoint the extreme. The next point is the choice of the diameter of the wheels (determined by how serious obstacles are planned to be forced). For extreme and adventure lovers, mechanical brakes are better than hydraulic ones (because they are less likely to break when dropped).

Of course, it's worth reading the reviews. But the excellent characteristics that Austrian products have make it possible to pay attention, first of all, not to the shortcomings, but to how this or that bike manifests itself in operation. It is imperative to check what the factory equipment of a particular model is. The KTM brand has no special price restrictions. You can find both a prestigious top-level device and budget transport for personal use - the main thing is to understand what exactly is needed.
