Strida bike review
Fans of cycling more and more often choose folding copies as two-wheeled vehicles. These are comfortable, mobile and easy-to-maintain models for adults, but of course the quality of the bike depends on the manufacturer. Perhaps, Strida is a favorite of most cyclists, as it specializes in the production of folding models.
History of creation
The creator of an unusual vehicle with a frame in the shape of the letter "A" is English engineer and designer Mark Sanders. His plans were to develop a bicycle for people who need to travel a rather big route from home to work on public transport every day.
Cars seemed to him imperfect, large-sized, massive, low-maneuverable, so a former student at Imperial College London, and thought about creating a vehicle on muscular traction, which would meet the ideas of humanism and look aesthetically pleasing. The development was carried out within the framework of the diploma project.
Why did the designer choose a folding bike as an urban vehicle? According to the creator himself, public transport is too vulnerable to city traffic jams, a private car does not allow you to get to your destination door-to-door, and a motorcycle is too dangerous transport, as the developer was personally convinced of by the example of his brother who died in an accident.
The classic bicycle of that time could not allow its owner to move freely, and its maintenance was tiring, because it was necessary not only to drive the bike, but also to bring it up the park stairs, roll it into the subway, try to hide this oversized vehicle in the staircase under the stairs during his absence. This is how the idea of creating a folding lightweight structure came about.
In this regard, all models are quite easy to use and maintain, the folding mechanism allows you to fold the bike within 5 seconds and, if necessary, enter the bus with it. The weight of various specimens varies from 8.8 to 10.2 kg, so it is not difficult to bring the unit up the stairs.
The first model, called Strida 1, was released in 1987, and exactly 20 years later, a more technologically advanced and modern model Strida 5.0 appeared on sale.
The company's products saved time, effort and money for city dwellers, because now many bus trips could be avoided, and if necessary, it was allowed to bring the bike to your office and put it under the table.
All these advantages were highly appreciated by cyclists, and the Strida models quickly became popular.
In appearance, the two-wheeled unit looks like a bulky scooter and a wheelchair at the same time, but it is a full-fledged bicycle, which differs from standard bikes with a triangular frame. The alternative to the chain drive is the Kevlar drive belt.
Most of the models have one speed and are equipped with disc brakes. Thus, Strida products are a compact folding version of the usual bike, created especially for those who make long trips every day in a large metropolis... Now deliveries have been established to shops in Moscow, St. Petersburg and other cities of Russia.
Advantages and disadvantages
The main goal of the developers was both to reduce the size of the bike and to ensure comfort in use.
Modern technologies have made it possible to create a bicycle that is easily and quickly disassembled and turns into a small compact device, which, for example, does not take up much space in the car trunk.
If the owner has a need for repairs, then he can be calm about finding spare parts and components - the company manufactures footboards, brake calipers, pads, pedals from different materials, drive belts for its products.
We also note other advantages of the models.
- Unlike other folding bicycles, the units of the presented brand can be rolled in assembled form, and not carried.
- This bike will not be difficult to transport on public transport or metro.
- The weight of the non-speed models is generally limited to 10 kg, which also ensures ease of maintenance.
- Design features include fenders and a mudguard to protect the vehicle during precipitation.
- Convenience during operation is created by a belt drive installed instead of the usual chain.
- The type of brakes is disc, that is, they practically do not require maintenance. Disc brakes work without interruption in any weather.
- Models have the ability to adjust the saddle height.
- Compared to other folding models, the price is quite reasonable.
- The manufacturer offers many additional branded accessories to facilitate maintenance and use of bicycles.
There are practically no shortcomings in the products. Some owners only note the harsh seats. And also according to the reviews of some buyers, miniature forms cannot fully provide ride comfort.
That is, these bicycles are not suitable for a long bike ride or travel.
Naturally, riding at high speed and honing extreme stunts is not for the Strida. Many cyclists who are accustomed to frequent cycling cannot understand that The Strida is a purely city bike, it can be used on an asphalt sidewalk or on a cycle path, and then - not for walking, but solely as a means of transportation. The maximum possible speed that a folding bike can reach is up to 20 km per hour.

It can be said the classic urban compact bike. Like all products, the presented version has a frame in the shape of the letter "A". Unit weight - 9.6 kg. According to the assurances of the developers, the model is suitable for cyclists up to 192 cm in height, but users are skeptical about this statement. Doubts are associated with complaints about touching the steering wheel with the knees while driving. The problem can only be solved by increasing the steering lift.
Strida LT
In fact, the design is not particularly different - the same triangular frame, but the model also has some distinctive characteristics, namely: 5-spoke original rims and a plastic trunk. The most affordable option has an aluminum boot - this is a reliable and durable element for storing things, although the plastic version is still more practical, besides, due to the lightness of the material, the weight of the entire bike is noticeably reduced.
Strida sx
This specimen features sturdy and durable 18 '' wheels, which provides a more comfortable driving environment. Due to this design feature, as well as the specific configuration of the frame, the mass of the specimen is slightly greater than that of the options presented above, and is equal to 11.6 kg.

The model has two speeds, unlike other modifications, but otherwise is quite similar to the Strida LT, if you do not compare the diameter of the wheels. It is natural that this is the most expensive model of the manufacturer.

For a cyclist, this is akin to a disaster, because it is impossible for him to take an umbrella with him. For such cases, the company offers to purchase a poncho-shaped Gamp raincoat made from waterproof membrane fabric. The thing can be worn on any clothes, and even a backpack located at the back will not be a problem for her. The raincoat does not hinder movement, it is light - only 390 g, and when folded takes up very little space, that is, it can be rolled up and put into a small bag.
Its useful to note good air permeability of the material, the fabric is breathable and has the ability to wick steam away from the body. You can use the raincoat not only for cycling, but also when riding a regular bike, scooter or while walking the dog.
