Making a wreath of branches
A wreath of branches is suitable for decorating the house not only on New Year's Eve, but also in any other season. A huge number of master classes with detailed instructions allow you to create such jewelry with your own hands.
What rods can you use?
The twigs of many trees are suitable for creating a decorative wreath on the head or as an interior item. A Christmas decoration is usually formed from the branches of the pine or spruce family, as well as juniper. An excellent choice is the Canadian spruce, the needles of which do not prick or crumble. If its branches are too large, then with the help of a pruner, they are divided into smaller fragments, and also freed from bare spots and "dead zones". Thin birch twigs are also suitable for work. Birch branches in the amount of 10 or more are woven into a ring and tied with dark twine.
The use of the grapevine is quite common. Thin branches are first twisted by hand, and then secured with twine or rope of a similar color.
It is recommended to pre-soak both grape and birch twigs in hot water for several hours to gain greater flexibility and obedience. The length of the branches should remain as long as possible, and the thickness should not be more than 0.5 centimeters. After soaking, the material dries naturally.
It will be interesting to look at a composition based on fresh or dry rosehip branches. The rods will need to be collected in advance along with ripe berries and dried in the sun.Soft juniper branches do not hold their shape well, and therefore are used in combination with other conifers, for example, pine, which are laid in the first layer. Willow branches, rowan twigs and thuja shoots, which form the upper decorative layer, are also suitable.
What do you need to work?
In addition to the main material, that is, rods and decorative elements, you cannot do without a number of tools in your work: a garden pruner, scissors, a glue gun, twine or wire, ideally floristic. It also makes sense to prepare side cutters for shortening the wire and pliers for bending it. Many craftsmen form an additional base from a cardboard ring wrapped in newspapers or crumpled paper, a metal clothes hanger or foam. To decorate the finished composition, use cinnamon sticks, slices of dried citrus fruits, pine cones, wooden flat figures or small plastic toys. They are glued directly over the branches, wrapped in dark threads, or fixed with a thin wire. The finished wreath is tied with a string of bright beads or a ribbon.
It should be mentioned that when creating New Year's or Christmas crafts, they rarely do without festive decor: sweets, tinsel, "rain", gilded nuts and colorful balls.
How to weave the base?
Any DIY wreath making workshop begins with creating a base. This can be done in several ways. For example, withAll-cut willow twigs can be twisted together without an additional frame. In this case, the ends of the branches are first cut obliquely, and then from thick to thin shoots are woven into the base, clinging to one another. If necessary, the workpiece is fixed in several places with wire. Such a wreath already looks beautiful on its own.
By following another instruction step by step, it turns out to design a more reliable frame. First, a circle is drawn on a circle with a compass, the diameter of which is 30 centimeters. Another circle is drawn inside it, but already 15 centimeters in diameter. The workpiece is cut in such a way as to make a "donut". He is immediately wrapped up with brown woolen threads or even old nylon tights. Rosehip branches, right along with the berries, will need to be alternately superimposed on top of the workpiece, intertwining the thick ends with the thin ones. Having formed several layers, it remains only to tightly wrap the branches with rope.
In another version, birch branches are required for work, the length of which reaches a meter. Half of them, tucking slightly, forms a circle. To make the figure even, it is convenient to wrap the rods around the legs of the stool. The remaining branches are already wrapped around the formed ringlet. Do not tighten them too tightly, otherwise the design will turn out to be thin. It is more logical to cut the ends that come out of the wreath, and tie the finished structure with twine.
A good frame is obtained from dry straw, wrapped in cling film and fixed with tape, on top of which coniferous branches are already weaving.
What can you decorate with?
Features of decorating a wreath depend on whether it is intended for the interior or will be worn on the head. In the second case, of course, it is better to use a lighter decor and in smaller quantities, in addition, making sure that small details do not scratch the skin and do not cling to the hair.
Autumn wreath
Autumn wreaths made of twigs are usually hung from a door or window, or placed in the center of the dining table and complemented with simple white candles. In the compositions, bunches of berries are often used: either natural dried or made of polymer clay, colorful leaves, acorns, cones, feathers and sisal. The finished work is decorated with a canvas bow, a bunch of dried spikelets or small figures in the form of vegetables.
In principle, it is not forbidden to use even natural vegetables and fruits - apples of winter varieties or small cobs of corn, fixed on double-sided tape. It is more convenient to attach artificial fruits with a hot gun.
Autumn leaves of different colors and sizes are advised to be put under a press or dried a little naturally in the fresh air. It is customary to process acorns, cones and other natural materials with silicate glue that retains its shape. On the basis of grapevine, the composition with aromatic herbs looks amazing. In this case, at the preparation stage, cereals, mint, rosemary or lavender are laid out in bunches and thoroughly dried. It should be added that by limiting the amount of decor and designing a more comfortable base, any autumn wreath can really be adapted as an accessory on the head.
New year wreath
When decorating the composition on the door, you can either evenly distribute the prepared elements over the entire area, or you can form several accent groups and fill the space between them with small details. The items that make up these groups must match no more than two parameters: for example, shape and color.
Experts do not recommend placing similar elements symmetrically or constructing additional geometric shapes on a round wreath.
If cones are used in the composition, they can be pre-painted or varnished with sparkles. You should not get carried away with tinsel, as it can overshadow both the natural basis and the rest of the decor. The LED string should also not be too long to show anything other than the lights on the wreath. Either artificial snow, or processing with a brush with dry natural bristles covered with white acrylic paint will give a zest to the festive wreath. By the way, the same artificial snow will hide the irregularities or imperfections of the creation.
A wreath made of birch twigs will simply be supplemented with a spruce branch, and it will already become festive. It's even easier to just paint the structure with white spray paint and tie a bow. Natural decor looks best on such laconic products: dried berries, fruits, walnuts and cinnamon sticks. If buds of two colors are used in the composition, then it is better to alternate them with each other, "diluting" with bunches of berries.
In the upper part of the wreath, a fluffy bow tied from a red ribbon with singed edges will look good.
Other topics
Taking as a basis the scheme for making a wreath from branches, it will turn out to create a beautiful laconic decoration on the wall. The work begins by cutting out a cardboard circle with a diameter of 25 centimeters, inside which the same smaller round hole is cut. The resulting bagel is gradually filled with chopsticks. They should go in a circle, like the rays of the sun, and first long branches are glued, and then short ones. Yarn pompons are used to decorate the inner circle of the product.
In preparation for the celebration of Halloween, it is worth preparing a special witch's wreath to decorate your home. It can be a laconic design of thin twigs, decorated with figures of bats cut out of cardboard, or a brighter composition of white branches and bright orange details. Having created a dense base and painted it black, all that remains is to place rubber snakes on it, tighten the surface with an artificial web, and the decorative element will be ready.
You can also attach toy birds with black feathers, shards of skeletons, black-painted rosebuds or pumpkins with frightening faces to the branches - the imagination is limitless here.
Against, when preparing a craft for kindergarten with a child, it is better to do something simpler. For example, a twig base will be easy to decorate with felt leaves and colorful cones. If the work is dedicated to the New Year, then dried orange slices, plasticine berries and small plastic balls are suitable as decor. A wreath for a fabulous photo shoot is designed depending on the theme and seasonality of the event. For a delicate spring look, a base of thin twigs, decorated with green leaves and such large flowers as ranunculus or peonies, is suitable. Mysterious autumn photography allows you to limit yourself to a laconic decoration made of only branches and, possibly, a bunch of scarlet rowan.
Beautiful examples
If the branches or twigs prepared for the wreath are first cleaned of bark and whitewashed, you will get a very unusual decorative element for decorating your home. A fairly dense wooden ring is decorated only on one side, thereby creating an attractive asymmetry. On the left side of the base, a composition of coniferous branches, cones and various details is formed. The largest of them are a Christmas tree toy in the form of a white house and a wicker heart. Most of the space is taken up by plastic balls of various sizes and colors. On the door, this composition is fixed with a snow-white ribbon.
Autumn work with decor in orange tones looks bright. The thin branches that form the base are left unchanged. All decorations running in a semicircle are concentrated on the right side of the wreath. Among them there are dried grass and flowers, artificial maple leaves of different shades, figurines of pumpkins covered with sparkles, cones and slices of dried citrus fruits.
If you want to make the composition calmer, then it is better to use natural dry leaves, additional thin twigs, autumn berries and a bow made of marsh-colored canvas fabric.
A delicate Easter wreath will turn out if you connect the vine with willow branches, and then decorate the structure with quail eggs and feathers of calm shades. It is more convenient to hang such a product on an eyelet made of ordinary jute rope. Fans of brighter compositions can decorate a spring product with artificial flowers of delicate shades, as well as a "nest" with quail eggs. Willow twigs are woven into the base of the product, and a couple of bird figurines turns out to be its highlight.
