Nowadays, faux fur is gaining great popularity, and it's not just about preserving nature. People buy fur coats, hats, parkas, capes made of such material, blankets and other similar products. Thanks to the use of modern technologies, today it is possible to obtain very attractive synthetic fur, which is much cheaper than natural fur, but is not much inferior to it in beauty. However, sometimes it also gets dirty, and you have to think about how to properly wash it at home.

If the contamination is superficial

In the event that dust appears on the faux fur on a jacket or other product while it was stored, it can be removed very easily. Take a clean, damp cotton cloth, lay it down, lay the item on top of it, and knock it out using a carpet beater. This way you can get rid of the dust that has accumulated between the villi: it will remain on the damp surface.

When the product is clean, flatten it and dry it.

If you knocked out the item, but the dirt is still there, remove it using soap and water. You need to act as follows:

  • The surface to be cleaned must be vertical. To do this, hang the fur on a hanger.
  • Get a clear shampoo that doesn't have any additional additives. 3 tablespoons will suffice. Dissolve the shampoo in a liter of liquid, it should be warm. Whisk the mixture with your hands: a lush foam should appear.
  • Using a brush, apply the product gently to the surface. There should be no water on the base of the product.
  • If the item has a medium or long pile, it should be cleaned in the direction of its growth. Low villi are processed in the opposite direction. Fake fur needs to be cleaned only in this way - this rule can be called basic.
  • Remove excess foam using a damp cotton rag. Squeeze it out until it is almost dry.
  • To dry the garment, wipe it with a clean terry cloth. Then place it outdoors or in a well-ventilated area. The sun's rays should be prevented from falling on the thing. Heaters should not stand too close to the product.
  • When the pile is dry, comb it with a metal comb. Its teeth should be sparse.

To make the fur collar fluffy and shiny, mix glycerin (one teaspoon), water (0.5 liters), ethyl alcohol (0.5 liters) and process it with this mixture. Gently apply the mixture to the nap using a cotton swab or spray bottle.

Remember to comb the garment again when it gets dry.

White pile

The white fur is cleaned using lemon juice:

  • Mix water and lemon juice in equal proportions.
  • Dip a cotton swab into this mixture and use it to clean the product.
  • You can use citric acid powder instead of lemon juice. Mix two parts liquid with one part powder.

Another method that works for white hair is using hydrogen peroxide:

  • Dissolve one tablespoon of three percent peroxide in one liter of water.
  • Spread out the product, apply the created mixture to it.
  • To dry the item properly, hang it outdoors or in a room that is often ventilated.
  • Use a metal comb. Its teeth should be blunt and not very frequent.

To make the thing snow-white, use blue:

  • Add a few drops of blue to one liter of water. You should get a pale blue mixture.
  • Dip a cotton swab or sponge into the solution, smear the product.
  • Dry the damp product outdoors or in a well-ventilated room.
  • Comb the pile with a wide-toothed metal comb.

Use ammonia, hydrogen peroxide and water to create an effective blend that can cleanse whites. Mix the ingredients in equal proportions. Apply the mixture to the surface using a spray bottle. The fur must dry thoroughly. When it gets dry, take an iron comb and comb it.

If the product is very dirty

In the event that the base of the product is dirty, it is worth washing it. Artificial pile can be washed if it is on a mixed or synthetic base. It can be a mixture of lavsan, viscose, cotton fibers, polyolefin fibers. Hand wash the item. To do this, proceed as follows:

  • Dissolve a detergent in water, which is intended for washing synthetics, silk, wool. It is necessary to take into account the recommendations specified in the instructions. The temperature of the solution is no more than forty degrees.
  • Submerge the product in the liquid and squeeze it gently with your hands. Do not rub the thing too hard. Otherwise, it will be very difficult to straighten the fur later.
  • Rinse out the pile thoroughly, the water will have to be changed several times. The optimum temperature is from 15 to 30 degrees. An antistatic detergent may be used. After it, rinse the item twice, no more, otherwise the antistatic effect will not persist.
  • You can use a terry towel to remove excess water. Wrap a wet product in it and squeeze lightly.
  • Spread out the item and hang it over the bathtub. For this, you can use a hanger. When the water stops dripping, move the fur outside or in an area that is well ventilated.
  • Brush dry fur.
  • You can iron the pile slightly using a warm iron. This is a good option if the fur is lined.

Stain removal

If you want to get rid of a dirty stain on your faux fur, proceed as follows:

  • Prepare warm water (0.5 l), dissolve any washing powder in it (two tablespoons).
  • Gently rub the liquid into the product using a sponge. You need to move from the edges to the middle.
  • Remove dirt and detergent with a sponge. If necessary, carry out the procedure again.
  • Dry the thing, the temperature should be room temperature.
  • When most of the dirt has been removed, wait until dry and gently remove using a brush.

If the stain is greasy and just appeared, immediately apply an absorbent (absorbent) product to it. Use flour, baby powder, for example.

If you can't get rid of the dirty stain, remove it with gasoline:

  1. It must be cleansed, otherwise there will be stains on things. To check how clean the solvent is, drop it on paper. It needs to dry. If a stain remains on the surface of a clean white sheet, gasoline should not be used.
  2. Dampen a clean cotton cloth or cotton swab with the solvent. Squeeze the material to achieve maximum dryness. Gently wipe the stained fur with a swab, remove the dirt. This is how cuffs and collars are cleaned.
  3. In some cases, refined gasoline and an absorbent are applied to the pile. The grease is removed with a solvent and absorbed through the absorbent. Gasoline is added to the absorbent.
  4. Apply the resulting semi-liquid mixture to the stain, leave it on for a while, and let it dry.
  5. Then brush it off using a brush.

The smell of gasoline may remain. To get rid of it, thoroughly ventilate the item outside.

Helpful hints

In the process of cleaning the pile, you should adhere to some recommendations:

  1. Make sure the tool you choose is safe. Choose a small area to process. If the pile does not stick together, does not stop shining and does not change shade, it will be possible to clean the entire thing.
  2. Wear rubber gloves before handling the product. If you are using ammonia or gasoline, provide ventilation, open windows to thoroughly ventilate the area. Keep the item away from open sources of fire.
  3. When it comes to using a washing machine to clean faux fur, you first need to think about the possible consequences. Study the product label, find out what the manufacturer says about the possibility of such washing. Don't experiment with low-quality fur.

Dry cleaning

Dry cleaning is a good option if the contamination is very strong. In this case, you should not try to cope with it yourself, otherwise you can ruin the thing. However, not all products can be cleaned this way.

All information about this is usually indicated on the label.

Shoes

Faux fur is found on many boots and boots. It looks very beautiful, but it is not easy to take care of such shoes. There are different ways to remove dirt from your boots:

  1. If the fur is light, white, you can use talcum powder, flour, baby powder. Sprinkle the selected product on the pile and after a while (usually a few minutes) remove it using a brush.
  2. Grease, small amounts of dirt can be cleaned with baking soda. There may be several such procedures - you need to ensure that the product stops getting dirty. The paint is removed with gasoline.
  3. If the pile is dark, it is not recommended to clean it with flour. Otherwise, the item may deteriorate. Use sawdust to clean dark pile: they will need to be poured onto the fur.
