How to wash a wool coat correctly?
Not every woman will dare to wash a woolen coat. As a rule, everyone hand over such products to dry cleaning. However, there are situations when washing is the only possible way to save your favorite product. In any case, this is a bold step. After all, a coat can shrink, stretch, lose its shape or become stained. To avoid this, there are clear guidelines for the correct washing and drying conditions to be followed.
Care features
First, it is necessary to clarify whether there is a theoretical possibility of washing a wool coat, and which one: machine wash or hand wash. First, you need to determine the composition of the fabric, for this, read the label on the coat: it always indicates what the product is from and how to care for it. In the event that the coat is entirely woolen, it is not recommended to wash it, only dry cleaning.
Preparation
Place the coat on the hanger and examine carefully. First, just clean off dust, threads or other small dirt, as well as spools. Use a clothes roller to do this.
Next, scrub the fabric with a soft brush and soap and water to remove any visible stains. This procedure must be carried out carefully, along the location of the pile, do not rub the wool so as not to damage the fabric. If there is other material or fur on the collar and cuffs, it is necessary to unfasten them. E When in contact with water, metal parts may corrode and leave red stains on the material.
For washing, the product must be turned inside out, all zippers, buttons, if any, buttons must be fastened. Then it is placed in a special bag that is designed for washing.
If the model contains buttons or other metal fittings, they must be removed.
Washing the product
Machine room
The main thing in a machine wash is the correct selection of the regulator icon. The best option would be "Wool", which is present in almost every typewriter of the modern model. In earlier models, this mode was replaced by "Delicate wash" or "Hand wash". The water in the machine should be heated no more than +30 degrees. Higher temperatures can damage the product. In this case, it is better not to wring out the coat by turning off the "Spin" mode.
Do not scatter granular powder, it is much better to use a gel, shampoo or other liquid product specifically for wool. When everything is washed, it is necessary to completely rid the coat of the soap solution. To do this, it is necessary to rinse the product at least two times, and preferably 2-3 times. When rinsing, add water softener and fabric softener.
Manual
The coat is washed by hand to make the procedure more gentle. Washing a coat involves a large amount of water, not very hot, with a maximum temperature of 20-25 degrees. The product is first soaked, washed gently, then rinsed in several waters.
Materials (edit)
The coat can be made from different types of wool. The selected type of wash will depend on the material from which the product is made.
Felted wool
Today, felted wool coats have become very popular. They are very warm, light and, most importantly, beautiful. Of course, this is not a cheap product, and if it suddenly lost its original appearance, I would like to return it.
Oddly enough, such products resistant to impressive loads and influences. For example, shrinkage in this case is not observed, since this is precisely the meaning of the felting method. A well-felted product is practically a hooked thing. In this regard, a felted wool coat can be washed safely and confidently.
The only thing that can and should stop you: any decor on the model (applique, sticker, rhinestones, etc.). Then only gentle hand washing is used.
Here are some guidelines:
- wash only with a specialized product, better than liquid, with lanolin;
- Soak the coat in water using the chosen product for two hours, after which a thorough rinse is required. In this case, the water temperature should not exceed 40 degrees, this mainly applies to colored products;
- it is absolutely impossible to squeeze and twist the product. You can dry it unfolded and in a horizontal position, and at a distance from all kinds of sources of heat and sunlight.
If ironing is required, it is better to iron the not completely dry product with a non-hot iron.
Cashmere
This is a purely woolen expensive fabric with a delicate structure. In the manufacture of this wonderful material, wool of mountain Kashmir goats is used. Real cashmere is very soft and delicate, as well as capricious to care for and wear.
For this reason, it is better not to wash such a product at home in an automatic washing machine: there is a danger of spoiling it, the material may deform, shrink. The ideal option is to have your expensive coat dry-cleaned. If you are still in the mood for a home wash, you can only do it with your hands.
If there is a small stain on the garment, it is not advisable to wash the entire coat again. You can limit yourself to removing this single contamination with a sponge soaked in soapy water. At the same time, there should not be a lot of water so that it does not spread over the entire surface of the product.
Algorithm for hand washing cashmere coat:
- it should take place in the maximum volume of water: you can take a whole bathtub, while the water should not be hot, no more than 25-30 ° С;
- the gel or shampoo for woolen products must be well stirred in water until it is completely dissolved and abundant foam appears;
- we free our pockets from foreign things and immerse the coat for soaking in a filled bathtub, leave it for a while;
- with light movements, the product must be crumpled in water, not rubbed;
- then rinse with plenty of water, change the water several times to completely remove soap suds from the surface of the fabric;
- the product must never be twisted;
- then the coat is laid out horizontally on a terry towel or sheet to remove residual water, while the wet towel is changed to dry more than once;
- when all the water is gone from the fabric, and it is almost dry, the product is ironed through a soft thin piece of fabric with a not very hot iron.
At the end of ironing, the coat can be placed on a hanger for final drying. It is good if it is outdoors or indoors with good air circulation.
Boiled wool
Loden, a practical and durable material. A Loden coat is worn for an extremely long time, it serves its owner for several years in a row, maintaining a perfect, almost original look.
But time goes on and it needs cleaning or washing. There is not always a desire and opportunity to use dry cleaning services. When it is necessary to remove contamination from a product made of boiled wool, this can be done in an unusual folk way, but in a very effective way, the only possible one in the case of this material.
You will need a special brush and bread crumb. To start, lay the coat horizontally, then sprinkle it with bread crumbs. The crumb from the bread rolls into balls, taking with it dirt, lint, dust, then all this must be removed.
It is enough to wipe the coat with a brush or even a damp palm, previously moistened with water, over the surface to remove the remnants of the pellets. After that, you can start wearing a practically new coat again.
Camel's wool
The coat, which has a camel wool filling, can also be easily washed in an automatic machine. Do not be afraid, the procedure is very simple, however, it has some limitations inherent in washing natural wool:
- you cannot wash such products with a simple powder, for this you just need to use a gel or shampoo for wool;
- it is possible to heat water up to +30 degrees;
- spinning is better not to be done automatically at all, the product should not be squeezed out by hand.
Wool and polyester
Boldly and confidently wash a coat made of mixed fabric, especially since it is very quick and easy to do it. Load the outer garments into the machine together with the liquid detergent for woollens, set the appropriate program: "Synthetics", "Quick wash"... We heat the water no higher than +40 degrees, otherwise there will be shrinkage, and your coat may suddenly become of a different size.
