How to grow hair?
Long, thick and shiny hair has always been considered one of the main components of female beauty. Some ladies have naturally luxurious curls, and they only need to keep them in good condition, while other women cannot boast of chic strands on their heads. If you consider yourself to be in the second category, and dream of becoming the owner of long and beautiful curls, then be sure to read this article. From it you will learn how to care for your hair, with what tools you can accelerate its growth and significantly improve its appearance.
What does hair growth depend on?
Of course, genetics plays a major role in the kind of hair we have. Their density, structure and texture primarily depend on it (they are thin or thick, oily or dry). And the rate of hair growth is also individual for each person and has been established since childhood. On average, they grow 10-15 cm per year and 1.5 cm per month. A loss of up to 100 hairs per day is permissible.
But, in addition to heredity, which cannot be changed in any way, there are other factors that affect the quality and rate of regrowth of the strands, and, fortunately, they can be adjusted.
If your hair grows too slowly, often breaks, splits or falls out, there may be several reasons for this.
- Hormonal problems, dysbiosis, gastritis and other diseases cannot but affect the condition of the hair. In this case, external means will not give the desired effect until the cause of the disease is identified and eliminated. And after solving health problems, you can start improving the hair itself, if the need remains.
- Smoking and alcohol negatively affect the quality of curls and inhibit their growth, as well as provoke dry, brittle hair and cause their dull appearance.
- Seasonal dropout and stunting, too, should not be discounted. In winter, due to a lack of vitamins and minerals, hair grows worse and more frayed.
- Improper nutrition - one of the main reasons for faded, brittle and split ends and, as a result, poor growth. To fix it, review your daily diet. Eliminate from it or at least reduce the consumption of fatty and fried foods, fast food, carbonated drinks. Eat more protein foods (meat, fish, eggs, cottage cheese, cheese and other "milk" are rich in proteins), as well as those foods that contain healthy Omega-3 acids for the skin and hair: nuts, avocados, flaxseed oil. Drink at least 2 liters of clean water a day. Drink vitamin complexes from time to time, especially in winter and during spring beriberi. Fish oil, biotin and brewer's yeast will also have a positive effect on hair.
- Stress, lack of sleep and negative emotions weaken the immune system and negatively affect the entire body, including, of course, our curls, which begin to fall out, break, split, lose their shine and beauty. Therefore, try to avoid strong and prolonged experiences or deal with them through sports, various breathing exercises and, if necessary, sedatives. Also, try to get at least 7 hours of sleep a night.
- Improper hair care, ignorance of how and what they should be washed, dried, combed, and what absolutely must not be done is another reason for their "sad" appearance. The wrong choice of means and devices for the care of curls (for example, the use of shampoo that does not correspond to the type of hair) also has a negative effect on their condition.
In the next chapter, you will learn how to properly care for your hair, especially if you are going to grow it out.
Fundamental rules
Here is a list of basic rules to follow, to keep your curls healthy, beautiful and long.
- You need to wash your hair so as not to harm it. Hot water cannot be used, as it dries, thinns and injures the hairline. Cold water is also not suitable, since it slows down blood circulation and can cause spasm of the head vessels, as well as lead to hypothermia of the whole body. The best option is cool water, the temperature of which is no more than 40 degrees.
- You cannot wash your hair every day, even if you are using shampoos designed for daily cleansing of your hair. So you remove from them not only dirt, but also sebum, which protects them from the aggressive effects of the external environment. As a result, the hair becomes weak and brittle. In addition, they begin to get dirty more often and, accordingly, often need to be washed. Try to wash your hair 2 or 3 times a week.
- For cleansing, choose sulfate-free shampoos. These chemicals cause strong lathering, but you pay for their health for the ability to wash your hair easier and faster, since sulfate compounds significantly reduce the protective lipid film and dry the hair. Try to buy shampoos that contain mostly natural ingredients, which, although they do not give such a lather, are much healthier.
The shampoo must be exactly for your hair type. It should be applied only to the roots, rubbing well into the scalp, and the hair itself will be cleansed when the product is washed off. You can try washing your hair with water or with apple cider vinegar, for example.
- Be sure to apply balm or rinse to your hair after shampoo. - these products seal hair scales that open during washing. It is better to use all the products of the same brand and series, as they complement each other.
- Apply masks regularly: they help restore and strengthen hair, give it shine and stimulate growth. Use them 1 or 2 times a week, alternating with balms and conditioners. It is necessary to keep the mask on the hair for at least half an hour so that all the nutrients it contains can penetrate into the hair. It is applied not to the roots, but along the entire length of the hair. Masks can be purchased or prepared independently at home.
If you purchase a mask in a store, then make sure that the amount of natural, not chemical ingredients prevails in its composition.
- You can make a mask from low-fat kefir yourself: it needs to be slightly warmed up and applied to the hair, which then must be covered with a cap. Kefir gives the curls incredible shine and silkiness. A mask of honey and egg yolk, seasoned with lemon juice, very well nourishes and moisturizes the hair. You can also mix melted honey with olive oil to make your hair look hydrated and healthy.
- Do not abuse the use of special devices and hair styling products: irons, curling irons, hair dryers, electric curlers, as well as gels and varnishes. Ideally, it's best not to use them at all, or as little as possible. They strongly dry hair and provoke brittleness and split ends. If you needed, say, to wind your hair on a curling iron, then first apply a thermal spray on them - it will create a film that will reduce the effects of exposure to high temperatures.
- Do not use a hairdryer to dry your hair - the hot air damages your hair. It is best to let your hair dry on its own. Yes, it will take more time, but your curls will look healthier. It is not recommended to wrap them in a towel either. In a wet state, they are much weaker and more vulnerable, they break more easily. Therefore, a towel should be chosen with a soft nap and gently walk it along the entire length of the hair, without squeezing or twisting wet strands.
It is also impossible to comb the hair when wet: you must either wait for it to dry naturally, or simply separate it with your fingers or a comb with sparse teeth to prevent tangling.
- With dry curls, you must also be extremely careful and neat. You need to start combing from the ends, and gradually move to the roots, capturing more and more of the surface of the hair shaft each time. There should be no sharp and rough movements, strands, even tangled ones, cannot be ripped out. Try to use your comb as often as possible, especially before bed, to encourage hair growth at night. Plastic tools are not worth buying.
The comb should be made of natural bristles or wood - these do not electrify the hair and are most useful for them.
- Collecting hair in a tight ponytail is not recommended. - so they break in the place where you pull them with an elastic band and, accordingly, their growth stops altogether. But if you do not want to give up the opportunity to do different hairstyles, then use plastic elastic bands in the form of twisted spirals.
- Coloring, especially lightening, severely depletes and damages the hair... Try to use natural dyes (henna, basma) or high-quality expensive paints. However, if you choose the latter option, then your hair will need increased care: you cannot do without frequent restorative masks and salon procedures.
- On the street, hair must be protected from negative external factors: wind, sun and frost. In winter and in windy weather, they should be hidden under clothing to avoid exposure to cold and low temperatures. For protection from the sun, thermal sprays are used, which create a thin film on the hair that protects them from the harmful effects of ultraviolet radiation.
- If you go to the pool, do not forget to wear a rubber cap while swimming.to minimize the ingress of chlorine on the hair. But in any case, after staying in chloride water, it is better to wash your hair.
- If you want to grow long hair, you must regularly cut the ends by 5-7 mm, so that they do not start to split, and it will also stimulate faster hair growth. It is advisable to visit the hairdresser once every 2-3 months.
Special cosmetics
The easiest and fastest way to get long strands is to do a salon extension, when natural or artificial strands are attached to your own hair. This way you can increase not only the length, but also the density of the curls.
However, wouldn't it be better to try and grow your own hair? Of course, this will take more time and effort, but you will know that the luxurious "mane" is your merit, and not the work of a hairdresser.
For this purpose, you can resort to professional procedures that are performed in salons, especially if you have short hair and plan to grow it practically from scratch. Here are the most popular techniques today.
- Mesotherapy - introduction into the scalp with the help of injections of various vitamin and mineral cocktails, as well as hyaluronic acid. The procedure is a little painful, but it effectively solves the problem of hair loss, strengthens them, and they begin to grow faster.
- Ozone therapy Is another injection technique that has a beneficial effect on hair and activates its growth. Ozone (highly active oxygen, the molecule of which does not consist of 2, but of 3 atoms) is injected into the scalp. It saturates the hair follicles, increasing the blood flow to them, relieves them of toxins and toxins, and this, in turn, leads to the fact that the hair begins to actively grow and become of better quality, its loss is reduced or even stops altogether. This method is also used to treat seborrhea and dermatitis.
- Lamination - this is the application of a special composition to the hair, which creates a film on them that protects the curls from the negative effects of the external environment, preventing them from brittleness and loss. Hair thickens, straightens, and gains shine and shine. However, this effect persists only as long as the strands are laminated. A budget alternative to this salon procedure is a mask made of gelatin with milk - a mushy mass is prepared from them and added to a balm or rinse, then applied to the hair for 30 minutes. The result is smooth and shiny strands for up to 3 days.
- Using the Darsonval apparatus you can also significantly strengthen your hair, increase its length, and even make it thicker. The device sends electrical impulses to the scalp, awakening dormant follicles and stimulating hair growth, making them longer and thicker. Darsonval can also be purchased for home use.
However, the procedure has a number of contraindications, such as pregnancy and cardiovascular disease.
The disadvantage of professional procedures is that they are very expensive. Therefore, there is no need to resort to them without trying other, more budgetary and affordable ways to strengthen hair and increase its length.
The modern cosmetic market offers a wide variety of products that help to significantly accelerate hair growth. They are called that - growth activators. These can be shampoos, balms, sprays, peels, lotions and serums, which contain in a highly concentrated form special biologically active components aimed at solving a specific problem.
Such activators are also sold in the form of ampoules. They usually contain the following ingredients: stemoxidin, collagen, ceramides, amino acids, essential oils, folic acid, vitamin and mineral complex.
An inexpensive but effective option for such an activator is serum from Agafia's First Aid Kit... It consists of natural, mainly plant components: it contains 7 herbs, brewer's yeast, red pepper extract and provitamin B 5. There is no need to rinse off the whey.
You can buy other, more professional and expensive drugs, but only after reading the reviews about them.
Traditional methods
You can grow hair very quickly with the help of folk remedies. They are cheaper than professional ones, and their effectiveness and benefits have been confirmed by centuries of experience.
The most popular masks for hair growth are based on onions, mustard, red pepper and ginger. All of them, due to their "pungency", cause blood flow to the scalp, this provokes stimulation of hair follicles and, as a result, intensive hair growth.
But they are contraindicated for owners of sensitive and dry skin, as they can cause irritation and even greater dryness. Also, you can not use them for pregnant women, hypertensive patients and those who have skin diseases, such as dermatitis.
A feature of these masks is that they are not applied to the hair itself, but to the scalp, where the follicles are located, and last for at least 1 hour. But look at the state: if they burn strongly, then wash it off earlier. It is advisable to put on a plastic cap or cover your head with a towel to enhance the effect - you can do both.
- Mustard mask... The easiest option is to dissolve 2 tablespoons of mustard powder in the same amount of warm water and apply the resulting composition to the head. But since this mask is very irritating and dries the skin, it is recommended to add softening and moisturizing ingredients to it. This can be egg yolk, olive oil, butter, and sugar. Mix everything thoroughly until a homogeneous substance is obtained.
- A softer analogue of a mustard mask - a cinnamon-based version... One teaspoon of chopped cinnamon is mixed with two teaspoons of honey and the yolk of a chicken egg. All this is diluted in warm water or cognac. This mask also has a warming effect.
- The most extreme, but also the most effective option is a red pepper mask.... It is best used for those with oily skin. First, the pepper is infused for 14 days in water or brandy. But you can buy ready-made pepper tincture. Then it is mixed with honey, egg yolk, olive or burdock oil, and the resulting composition is applied to the scalp. If you do the mask 2 times a week, then the hair can grow up to 3 cm in a month.
- Ginger mask is also very effective and gives good results. One tablespoon of crushed ginger is mixed with the same amount of olive oil or jojoba oil. This is the only one of the presented masks that is not suitable for oily hair.
- Onion mask Of all the warming ups, the most gentle: it can also be used for dry skin. Grate or finely chop the onions. Then you can simply apply it on your head, without mixing with anything, but it is better to add honey, kefir, olive or burdock oil to moisturize. So the effectiveness of the mask will be higher.
With the help of all of the above folk remedies, you can achieve a significant acceleration of hair growth.
Helpful hints
Let's take a look at some more actionable tips.
For fast and effective hair regrowth, use natural essential oils. Their benefits can hardly be overestimated. They are sold in pharmacies and are inexpensive, but contain many vitamins that are beneficial for skin, nails and of course hair. Oils nourish your curls, moisturize, restore and shine.
But they cannot be applied to the roots, otherwise they will clog the bulb and, instead of growing, the hair will, on the contrary, begin to fall out.... Lubricate the rod or just the ends, and then put a plastic cap or just a bag on your head to create a thermal effect - this way more nutrients will penetrate inside.
You can additionally heat your hair with a hot hairdryer or simply wrap it in a towel.
The oil is applied 1 hour before shampooing, or even better - before going to bed, so that all the beneficial elements can be absorbed during the night. Only then should the entire oily mass be thoroughly washed off. The most beneficial oils for hair are coconut, almond, olive, castor, burdock, grape seed or wheat germ, as well as jojoba and argan. You can use any one, or you can mix several types at once.
Head massage can significantly enhance the effect of oils and masks: it accelerates blood circulation, which means it stimulates hair growth. It is performed with your fingertips or with a special massage brush. It is advisable to do it immediately before shampooing for 15 minutes, moving from the neck to the temples and forehead. It is better to alternate circular movements, stroking and pressing. An additional bonus of the massage will be a calming and relaxing effect. It is also capable of relieving headaches.
Massage is best combined with exercise.
It is also useful to rinse your hair in decoctions of chamomile, nettle, burdock or just lemon juice - if you do this regularly, it will shine, become stronger and longer.
Growing gorgeous hair is an absolutely attainable goal. For it to be realized, you need to be patient and act in two directions at once: internal and external. Firstly, you need to provide your body with the necessary nutrients, and, secondly, to use means aimed at improving the condition of the curls themselves. In this case, you can use both the achievements of modern cosmetology and the folk methods discussed in the article.
The choice is yours. The main thing is, go for it, try different options, and you will definitely get the hair of your dreams!
