Some looks require straight and smooth hair. Can this be done at home? Undoubtedly, many girls successfully use a hairdryer in order to smooth out naughty lush curls. This article will focus on how to properly straighten your hair with a hairdryer.

Fundamental rules

At the very beginning, it is appropriate to touch upon the topic of maintaining healthy hair. Periodic exposure to high temperatures can affect the condition of the hair and its appearance in a bad way. Therefore, no matter how much you want to get the result as soon as possible, you need to act wisely so as not to overdo it.

  • If your hair is thin and weakened, then drying and styling should be done at the minimum power of the appliance. Hair dryers with a power of up to 1000 W do not heat up too much, they can be used without fear.
  • The presence of the air ionization function in your hair dryer will not be superfluous. In this case, the negative effect on the hairs is reduced.
  • Often, in a hurry to make styling, girls bring the hairdryer very close to the head. In some cases, this really reduces the procedure time a little, but, unfortunately, this happens at the expense of much more trauma to the hair.
  • The electrical device must be kept at a distance of 35-40 cm. The more power and temperature of the air flow, the further it should be.
  • Hot air should be directed in the direction of hair growth. Each hair consists of scales invisible to the eye, directed towards its tip. If dried in the opposite direction, towards the roots, these scales, figuratively speaking, "stand on end", due to which the hair becomes brittle.
  • Prolonged exposure to hot air should be avoided.At the end of drying or styling, be sure to switch the appliance to cool air mode for 1-2 minutes.

The easy way

The most affordable method of straightening hair with a hairdryer at home can be done with a regular comb. Wet strands need to be combed well with a comb and dried, pulling them off with a comb along the way.

However, this method will not smooth and stretch frizzy hair. It is only suitable for straight and not too coarse hair.

Styling brush

This simple tool greatly simplifies the process and improves the result. It is best to choose a brush with natural bristles and a wooden handle.

These materials will not heat up during hot air blowing, and, therefore, trauma to the hairs will be minimized.

Benefits of using a styling brush:

  • the bristles smooth out the structure of the hairs well, therefore, as a result, the curls become straighter and more neat;
  • with this tool, you can easily "tame" coarse and thick hair that is difficult to smooth out.

The disadvantages include the following points.

  • The comb-brush is not recommended for working with fine or very weak hair. If the hair structure is compromised, thick, stiff bristles can aggravate breakage.
  • Brushing is somewhat laborious and takes a little longer. It will take some skill to handle two objects at once (hairdryer and brush) during the procedure.
  • If your goal is to get straight and voluminous hair, then you should not use a brush during styling. It provides a fairly strong smoothing effect and noticeably removes the splendor of the hair.

How to straighten your hair yourself after washing with a brush and hairdryer is described below.

  • Comb damp hair with a regular comb or fine-toothed comb. Part it and divide it into several large strands.
  • Better to start with the lower curls. Pin the rest of the strands with clips so that they do not interfere with you.
  • Turn on your hair dryer and blow air from the roots to the ends of your hair. Brush movements are also made from the base of the strands down.
  • Pull the strands one by one, blowing hot air from a hair dryer on them. The thinner the curls to be treated, the better the result will be. Bulky strands will take longer to dry.
  • After straightening all the strands, blow in cool air to secure the styling.

Brashing

Another round comb that can be used to style and straighten hair of various lengths. Unlike a brush, there is not a bristle on its surface, but more rare plastic teeth.

Brashing comes in various sizes and diameters. Thinner combs are used to create curls.

For straightening and smoothing hair, choose a volumetric tool.

Advantages of brushing:

  • does not remove volume when styling;
  • suitable for all types of hair, including weakened, thin and dry;
  • gives good results when used, hair becomes smooth and shiny.

A slight downside to this styling tool is that it slightly curls the ends of the strands. This effect is especially noticeable on short hair.

The technique of straightening strands with a brush is similar to brushing.

Hairdryer attachments

To make the process of drying and styling your hair as convenient as possible, manufacturers supply hair dryers with various attachments. Thanks to this, the hair dryer becomes almost a complete styling device that does not require the use of other tools.

Hair dryer brush

Such a device is equipped with a round nozzle with holes and bristles. It looks very similar to brushing. The nozzle rotates during operation, and a stream of heated air is supplied through the holes to the hair. A hairdryer with a brush attachment is very easy to use and straightens even curly hair well.

A small drawback is that when using it, as with using a regular brush-brush, the ends of the hair are slightly curled.

Before starting straightening, the hair should be divided into strands and worked with each one in turn. The strands on the back of the head and crown are pulled first. Then you can proceed to laying the lateral and temporal zones. During work, the brush should be slowly lowered from the base of the hair to the ends. If you hold it motionless, you will get not straightened, but slightly curled curl.

Hairdryer-straightener

With comb attachment. In such models, the nozzle is not round, like a brushing, but looks like a comb with teeth in several rows. Warm air is blown through the holes in the base of the nozzle. The device perfectly stretches and straightens the curls. It is very easy to work with, and the entire drying and straightening process is significantly reduced in time.

Hair straightening with a hairdryer with a comb attachment is carried out in separate strands.

Advice

  • It is always best to start pulling strands from the very bottom. If you wear bangs, then first of all you need to straighten it, and then move on to the rest of the hair.
  • In order not to lose volume at the roots, pull the strands not down, but up, lifting them with a comb.
  • Wet hair should not be styled or dried. Wait until they are a little dry and damp, or blot them with a towel. If there is a lot of water on the hair, the drying process will be significantly delayed. In this case, the hair structure may suffer from prolonged exposure to a hot hairdryer.
  • Coarse and thick hair is usually difficult to style and straighten. To get a good result, you will have to work with them at the maximum heating modes of the hair dryer.
  • It is important to correctly select the power of the device. Owners of short haircuts will be satisfied with a hairdryer with a power rating of 600-800 watts. But for a voluminous thick head of hair, the device should be more powerful, at least 1500 watts.
  • To prevent your curl from suffering from regular hot air styling, use heat protection products before the procedure. They must be applied to the strands just before the straightening and drying process. Compositions for thermal protection are presented in various consistencies and versions: sprays, serums, creams, lotions. You can choose the option that suits you best.
  • It is best to straighten your hair in relatively small strands. Bulky curls dry out much longer. Thus, you will have to blow on them with a hot hair dryer for a much longer amount of time.
  • For best results, you can also use hair fixing products. Nail polish or wax will help keep your hair style for much longer.
  • Experts recommend alternating hot and cool streams from the hair dryer during styling and straightening.
  • You should not try to straighten dry hair. First, you will harm them. Secondly, the result is likely to be unsatisfactory. Hair must be damp to work with hot air.
