The skirt, which is called gypsy, is represented by a long, free model that does not restrict movement. It is often bought for dancing or carnival looks. The main feature of gypsy skirts is the ability to lift the edges of the product up with straightened arms.

Such a skirt looks good on any figure and is great combined with things in ethnic and casual styles. Another advantage of the gypsy skirt is the ability to make it yourself, even if the experience in sewing clothes is minimal.

Fabrics

The gypsy skirt is usually made of bright and easily draped material. It is important that the fabric does not show through or wrinkle. Satin, staple, blended fabrics, rayon or polyester fabric are well suited to these conditions.

The colors of the fabric are most often represented by floral patterns. If a monochromatic material is used for a gypsy skirt, then ribbons, braid, sequins, beads and embroidery are used in its decoration. Geometric printed fabrics are not suitable for gypsy skirts.

For the lining of a gypsy skirt, the same fabric can be used as for its main part, but more often the petticoat is sewn from a suitable color, but cheaper material.

Styles

The gypsy skirt is a wide, long model. Most often, such a skirt is sewn in the "sun" style (it is made double or 2.5) with a frill at the bottom.

Tiered skirts and blades are also in demand. A frill in a gypsy skirt can be a little smocked or presented by a lot of flounces that are cut along the side. In addition, the frill can be in one layer or sewn in several layers.

The length of the skirt varies from floor-length pieces to models with the hem running along the ankle line. For splendor, a fishing line can be sewn into the hem (it is sewn at the junction of the main part of the skirt and the frill).Such a skirt should cover the legs, but not impede movement. The smell is not used in sewing gypsy skirts.

A belt for such a skirt is sewn of medium width. They try to make it without an elastic band so that the product does not slip in the dance. To make the belt harder, it is treated with interlining, and for the convenience of putting on a skirt, a zipper is sewn into the belt.

You can make a belt with ties on the side, with a small slit on the skirt itself, to make it more comfortable to dress. And if you do decide to use the ryzinka, let it be dense and not too narrow.

What to wear with?

If the gypsy skirt is part of a theme or dance costume, it is usually complemented by a tight-fitting blouse. This blouse is a short model that covers the belly. Ruffles are usually present on the sleeves of a blouse.

You can also choose a regular T-shirt for a bright gypsy skirt, paying attention to additional accessories. This look goes well with a shawl of a bright color, as well as clinking bracelets, large earrings and bright beads.

Casual models of gypsy skirts can be worn with T-shirts and tops in a contrasting shade or matching the skirt. A good addition can be called a corset, and in cool weather, such a skirt is quite organically combined with a knitted long sweater.

Sandals or sandals are considered the most suitable shoes for gypsy skirts. They can be low speed or wedge. If you want to visually increase your height, shoes with heels are recommended.

How to sew with your own hands

The preparatory stage in making a gypsy skirt on your own will be the purchase of all the necessary materials. In addition to the fabric, you need to purchase a bias tape, threads and non-woven fabric.

Patterns

To make a pattern, you first need to take measurements. In this case, in addition to measuring the waist and hips, you should also decide on the desired skirt length. To construct a pattern, the inner radius of the part is first calculated. To do this, the waist circumference is divided by 2 pi, that is, by 6.28.

For example, with a waist circumference of 63 cm, we divide this figure by 6.28 and get 10 cm. This will be the radius for one "sun" pattern, and since the style for a gypsy skirt requires two "suns", we divide the resulting radius by two and get 5 cm. This will be the inner radius of the part, which we will mark on paper.

From it we set aside the length of the skirt and draw the second radius. As a result, we get either two semicircles, if the length of the skirt, added to the radius, is more than 74 cm (the fabric cannot be folded), or a “sun” quarter, when cutting the fabric, the fabric is folded in four. The resulting cutting on such a quarter, the circle is cut along the shared thread.

On average, a skirt requires about 9-13 m of fabric, if its width is 150 cm. From this amount, two "suns" are obtained and the material remains for the frills. The frill is made with a width of 10 to 25 cm. It requires a ribbon of fabric that will be twice as long as the hem of the skirt. For the belt, a rectangle is cut out of the main fabric and another one from non-woven fabric.

Sewing

There are the following stages of making a gypsy skirt with your own hands:

  1. Cut the fabrics. First, you need to attach the pattern to the material and circle it with chalk, taking into account the seam allowances. Next, cut out the details of the main skirt, and then cut out the frill and belt separately.
  2. Making the main part of the skirt. Having folded the panels of the product with the right sides to each other, you need to sew their side seams, then overcast the edges with a zigzag or overlock.
  3. Making a frill and sewing it to the skirt. The lower part of the frill should be folded over and sewn or trimmed with a bias tape. Sewn together ribbons of frills are gathered and evenly sewn to the main part of the skirt.
  4. Making a belt and sewing it to the skirt.
  5. Sewing the petticoat, if provided in the model.
  6. Dressing the skirt, washing and ironing it.
