What little girl from time to time does not imagine herself as a ballerina flitting across the stage, an air fairy or a fairy-tale princess? These cherished dreams are probably familiar to all the fair sex. And, of course, we all once dreamed of a wonderful outfit with a fluffy, rustling skirt.

If you are the mother of a little fashionista, then you have the opportunity to give your daughter an outfit of the most wonderful dreams. A voluminous, airy tutu skirt will surely delight the baby. The creation of such a skirt will not take you much time and effort, but it will give your child unforgettable emotions.

Today we will tell you in detail how to sew a tutu skirt for a girl. In this material you will find not only step-by-step instructions for sewing the product, but also some useful tips on how to wear and what to combine with a tutu skirt.

Peculiarities

The tutu, which is also called "Chopin" or tutu, came into modern fashion from the world of classical ballet. She was at the peak of popularity in the 90s of the last century, thanks to the popular TV series - a fluffy white skirt became the hallmark of the main character, played by Sarah Jessica Parker.

The idea was instantly picked up by women of fashion from all over the world, but - what a bad luck! - it turned out that a voluminous multilayer skirt looks perfect only on slender, fairly tall girls. Young ladies who do not meet these parameters look rather ridiculous in such an outfit.

But all of the above applies only to adult girls. Very young ladies look great in tutu skirts, regardless of build. Therefore, little girls - both puffy and skinny - should definitely get such a skirt, because it has a lot of advantages:

  1. Firstly, the tutu skirt, despite the simplicity of the style, is very beautiful and effective.
  2. Secondly, it goes well with a wide variety of clothes.
  3. Thirdly, it is convenient for dancing and active games.
  4. And finally, you can easily make such a skirt yourself.

What to wear and combine with?

Despite the fact that a tutu skirt is perceived as a smart or costume piece of clothing, it goes very well with things in completely different styles, including sports and casual. It is important that the items in the set are in harmony with the color scheme, and the general style direction of the image can be any.

Since the tutu skirt is very fluffy, you should choose a more relaxed, tight-fitting or fitted top for it. It can be a simple cotton tank top or T-shirt, shirt or turtleneck.

If it's cool outside, you can put on a denim jacket or vest over the outfit. In the cold season, a sweater or button-down pullover may well become the top of the set.

For a sport-chic look, you can wear leggings, a sweatshirt, or a hoodie with a tutu skirt. Sneakers or sneakers will harmoniously fit here.

For a more romantic look, a tutu should be paired with smart blouses, tops, and delicate shoes such as slippers or ballet flats.

Do not forget about jewelry: large flowers on a belt or in a hairdo, unusual hats (for example, a wreath or a diadem), bright children's jewelry.

How to sew?

The classic tutu skirt is quite simple to sew, but it requires several meters of material. Usually, nylon, tulle, organza or tulle are used for these purposes.

To assemble the canvas into a voluminous skirt, it is sewn into a waist elastic in several layers. But we want to introduce you to an easier way to create a children's tutu skirt. A novice needlewoman can also master it, because it even requires skills in handling a needle and thread.

Most often, for self-tailoring of a tutu skirt, a fabric called "tulle" is chosen. Tulle is a synthetic material with a cellular structure, in other words, a fine mesh. It comes in varying degrees of severity.

You need to choose a fabric of medium hardness, since soft tulle does not hold its shape, and hard tulle is not suitable for delicate baby skin.

How to paint tulle in the desired color?

Traditionally, ballet tutus have snow-white colors, but since we will be sewing an outfit for a child, and not a stage costume, the color of the skirt can be absolutely any. If the desired shade is not found in the fabric store, you can dye tulle in the desired color at home.

To do this, you can use special paints for synthetic fabrics, or you can use an arsenal of folk remedies. For example, to give an emerald hue, they use brilliant green diluted in water (but you need to be careful with this method, otherwise not only the skirt will turn green, but everything around, including you and the child).

Another antiseptic, iodine, is used to dye fabrics yellow or orange. A pinkish tint can be achieved by adding fucorcin (Castellani liquid) to the water, a product that treats the skin with chickenpox.

To get the tone you want, first try dyeing on a small piece of material. You can change the intensity of the shade by diluting the product with water in various proportions. In order for the color to be stable, it is recommended to add a couple of tablespoons of vinegar to the solution. Dyeing should be done in warm water (no colder than 50 degrees).

Calculation of the amount of tulle per skirt

We will assemble the skirt not from wide pieces of fabric, but from many narrow stripes. The width of each strip should be about 15 cm, and the length is determined individually, based on the height of the child and the desired length of the hem.

We calculate the length of the strip as follows: we determine what length of the skirt we want to get and measure from the waistline to the hem... We multiply the resulting result by two and add 5-6 cm of stock. For example, a 4-year-old little fashionista needs a skirt 30 cm long, so we need to prepare strips 65 cm long. A total of 40-60 strips are needed. Do not be stingy: the more stripes, the more magnificent the tutu will turn out.

Sewing

To assemble a tutu skirt from tulle strips, in addition to the fabric itself, we need an elastic band and a satin ribbon for decoration. We will make a belt out of elastic, which will become the basis for the skirt. Elastic length = 3 cm waist circumference + small seam allowance.

  1. The first thing to do is to prepare the fabric. We cut the tulle into many strips (we determined their length and width in advance). To speed up the process, the fabric can be folded several times.
  2. We sew the ends of the elastic and fix it in a comfortable position, for example, on the back or on the legs of a chair.
  3. Take the first strip of fabric and tie it to the elastic so that both ends are the same length. To make the tutu appear voluminous, knit a double knot, and for less fluffy skirts, it is better to use a loop knot. Try to keep the knots neat and the fabric not sticking out anywhere.
  4. Repeat this procedure for each strip of fabric until the elastic is full.
  5. The skirt can be trimmed if necessary.
  6. It is recommended to decorate the belt with a wide satin ribbon. The ribbon is passed through several knots and then tied with a fluffy bow.

You can also decorate the pack with beads and sparkles by placing them on regular all-purpose glue.
