What is 750 standard gold and how is it different from 585?
Gold's position as capital savings has been shaken in recent decades - now it is customary to invest in real estate, business, and stocks. But to say that no one buys ingots or makes an additional stake on the "eternal" metal, of course, is impossible. If we are not talking about capital investments, but just want to learn more about gold, its samples and quality, this information will be useful and detailed.
The most common philistine question is - what is the difference between the 750 assay and 585? And he demands a detailed answer.
What it is?
In the world there is more than one standard for determining the sample of gold. The most famous existing samples are metric, carat, spool. In Russia, the metric system is used, and the sample numbers in it indicate the percentage of pure gold in the alloy. In the post-Soviet space the most popular samples are two - 750 and 585... And each has its own characteristics.
If you buy, for example, gold ring 750, it will cost more than its counterpart from 585, and more expensive by at least 30%, and even 50% more. This is a prestigious and expensive gold, which is practically doomed to demand from wealthy buyers.
But it is not only the percentage of gold in the product and the value that matters. The metal of this sample is ideal for mechanical processing, since it is ductile. Jewelers manage to make amazing, graceful, elegant pieces of 750 gold. Finally, 750 aurum is able to change color under the influence of special additives. So, gold can be bright yellow or dark red (pure red). Shades of white are also very popular, especially in the western market.
So, 750-carat metal is prestigious, expensive and most in demand as an investment. The geographical popularity of this gold is great, but in the former Soviet Union this type of gold is inferior to 585 assay value, since the latter is more accessible to the mass buyer. The situation still looks like this, because many wear earrings and rings of mothers and grandmothers, and sometimes they simply melt them into new jewelry forms. But the trial remains the same.
However, those who think in terms of investment believe that you need to buy only 750 aurum.
Composition and properties
Gold 750 is a precious metal, the alloy of which contains 75.5% pure gold... The remaining percentages are impurities or ligature (and there can be platinum, and palladium, and silver, and nickel, and copper). It is on the added metals that the final color of the gold will depend.
If you use other measurement systems, then gold 750 is equated to 18 carats (carat system). Easy to process and polish, gold is loved by jewelers and buyers around the world. This is the most demanded sample of this metal.
But she also has small drawbacks:
- increased softness of the alloy (therefore, products of this test require careful handling);
- not the highest mechanical resistance (for example, a gold ring of this sample is not so difficult to scratch).
However, jewelers know how to enhance the properties of Aurum 750, they add nickel or palladium to the alloy - and the indicators of strength and hardness of the metal go up. True, such a strengthening affects the final price of the product: palladium is very expensive, therefore, not everyone can afford to buy such a highly reliable alloy.
But for the procedures of processing, casting and soldering of links, this test is more than good. It matches well with colored glass enamel.
However, if a combination with enamel is contemplated, the alloy must contain at least 16% copper, otherwise the appearance of the finished product will be disadvantageously pale.
High-purity gold (and 750 is just that) has properties that are as close as possible to pure metal. Nickel and palladium, as already noted, increase the density of the metal. This sample is not subject to oxidation, it is resistant to chemical acids (with the exception of aqua regia). Even if the alloy is thermally treated repeatedly, it will not crack.
After cooling high-grade gold, a homogeneous mass will be formed, which is well amenable to mechanical processing.
What is the difference from the 585 assay?
The question of which is better and which is worse is not entirely correct, because the objectives of the acquisition may be different. And the buyer evaluates the product according to his capabilities, and going beyond the budget is not the best solution.
Today, there are officially several gold samples in the country, and the difference depends on its content in the alloy.
- 375 assay. Pure gold in such an alloy is 37.5%, the rest is silver and copper - more than 62%. The price for products of this sample is predictably lower. In the air, such jewelry darkens, and the rings sometimes leave a staining mark on the fingers.
- 500 sample... Half of this alloy is gold, the rest is impurities. The quality is adequate.
- 583 and 585 samples. The first option is still found on the market, albeit infrequently. But the 585 assay meets European standards, but there are still differences from the assay with a higher rank. And they are hidden in the percentage of gold. Still, it is 750 that is considered the most demanded.
- 750 sample... This alloy contains not only more gold, but also a precious ligature. Impurities help the precious metal to give the desired color, and the platinum in the alloy increases both the price of the product and its quality.
- 999 proof. It is the most expensive, but in relation to the manufacture of jewelry it is practically not in demand. It is usually sold in bank bars.
And another 750 test is considered the best, since the ratio of hardness, gloss and color saturation in it is optimal.
Alloy shades
Products with a fineness of 750 have a rich color palette. And you can get the desired color by adding metals.
There may be several variations of shades.
- Yellow. In such an alloy there are 750 units of aurum, 170 units of argentum (silver), 80 units of cuprum (copper).
- Pink... 750 - aurum, 40 - argentum, 125 - cuprum.
- Red. 750 - aurum, 40 - argentum, 210 - cuprum.
- Green... 750 - aurum, 250 - argentum.
- White. 750 - aurum, 50 - argentum, 200 - palladium.
The most desirable acquisition, according to numerous surveys and sales results, is today precisely white gold.... It looks the most noble. But there is no dispute about tastes, therefore other variations find their buyer.
Application
When exposed to high heat, 750 gold can be processed well. This alloy can be used to make embossed, cast and link jewelry. Jewelry is the main application for gold. But do not discount the active use of the precious metal in industry, optics and many other areas. For example, wires or thin plates of 750 gold can be seen in electronic and measuring instruments.
The alloy can be considered very flexible, therefore the possibility of obtaining special filigree patterns from this gold is more than high. Yellow gold is the most recognizable in the post-Soviet expanses.
But the demand for inevitable white is growing, especially because it matches perfectly with diamonds.
Care features
Of course, products with a fineness of 750 can be considered luxury, therefore they deserve quality care. The shade of the jewelry can change under the influence of carbon dioxide, oxygen.
In order for a gold piece to remain attractive for longer, you need to follow simple rules.
- Do not allow jewelry to interact with household chemicals and even cosmetics. Any chemical reagents negatively affect the composition of the alloy, although outwardly this may not be immediately visible.
- It is better not to wear gold jewelry for training in the gym and playing sports.
- To restore its former shine to the jewelry, you need to regularly polish it with a felt cloth or just a piece of natural wool.
- Ordinary onion juice works great on gold. They need to rub the decoration well and not wash off the onion layer for two hours. And only then the product is washed and wiped with a soft cloth.
- If the gold is old, or for other reasons darkening and stains have already formed on it, a soap solution with ammonia will return its former appearance to the decoration. But it is not worth keeping gold in it for more than 15 minutes.
- To remove unnecessary risks, you need to store gold in boxes with soft padding. Good boxes are just that. You should not give the opportunity to products to come into contact with each other, therefore, it is better to store gold jewelry in different compartments.
- It is also not worth taking water procedures in gold jewelry. We can say that this is unnecessary stress for them.
- For aurum, iodine will be an aggressive environment; it forms stains on the surface of the precious product, which will be very problematic to remove. Therefore, gold should be kept away from iodine.
- You can also use GOI paste to clean jewelry.
Gold darkens - that's a fact. And even high-grade metal is typical. You can associate such a negative moment with ligature oxidation. Both copper and silver interact with moisture, carbon dioxide, oxygen. Therefore, silver turns black, and copper turns green (or also turns black). But the aurum of 750 assay does not darken as quickly as, for example, gold 585, because there is less ligature in it. And this also affects the price of the alloy and its demand.
well and if your fingers turn black after wearing a gold ring, you should contact a specialist jeweler. This is most likely due to the poor quality of the alloy. True, an allergic reaction is not excluded (and it also happens to precious metals).
The ring can also come into confrontation with hand cream - perhaps there are elements in the cream formula that gold does not "like".
Guessing by stripes and spots, as was customary before, is not worth it. They appear on jewelry not because of the evil eye, but as a result of banal chemical reactions. And it happens even with high-grade, expensive gold.
