The history of one of the most expensive precious metals - gold - dates back several millennia and begins even before our era, as evidenced by the jewelry and household items found as a result of excavations.

The most popular in the world is the 750 assay. What does it look like, what properties, varieties and applications does it have? How is it different from “competitors”? How to care for items made of such gold? In the article you will find answers to all these questions.

What is this metal?

Products of 750 assay value contain 75% (or 75.5) pure gold and 25% (or 24.5%, respectively) impurities (ligatures). Silver, platinum, palladium, as well as more budget metals such as copper, nickel, zinc, brass and others can be used as additives. Due to the high concentration of gold, 750 carat is of great value in the jewelry world. It has excellent characteristics, thanks to which it is very easy to work with it and create beautiful and exquisite pieces of jewelry from this alloy.

The cost of a particular 750-carat jewelry is determined by several factors: what elements are included in the alloy, which company the jewelry is made by (the creations of famous brands are more expensive), inlaid with precious stones also significantly increases the price of the product.

Composition and properties

Gold 750 can have different colors and shades. It depends on what metals and in what percentage are included in the alloy.

  1. Products white colors are created by adding precious metals to gold - silver (5%) and palladium (20%). From this composition, exclusive jewelry is made, which are very expensive and serve as an indicator of status and prestige. You can get a cheaper version of white gold if you replace the noble palladium with nickel (partially or completely). The cost of such an alloy will be much less, but along with it, its value in the jewelry market will also decrease.
  2. Green a combination of gold and silver (in a ratio of 75% and 25%) gives a hue to 750-carat products.
  3. Classical yellow color is obtained by adding not only silver to gold, but also copper (in a ratio of 15% and 10%). Such products are characterized by high strength and durability. They are very fond of making wedding rings of them. The leader in beauty and grace is considered to be Italian gold, which is highly valued all over the world.
  4. If the copper content is higher than silver, then the product acquires pink shade.

The more the first element in the composition, the more saturated the color of the alloy turns out, turning into red with a ratio of copper (21%) and silver (4%).

750 gold has some peculiarities.

  1. Due to its medium strength and good ductility, it is very malleable, which allows you to make a wide variety of this alloy, including technically complex and filigree jewelry. It is for this property that goldsmiths love 750-carat gold. Using such fertile material, they can bring to life almost any creative fantasies, creating real masterpieces.
  2. With good and proper care for a long time retains an attractive appearance, does not lose its original color and shine.
  3. Reacts well to high temperatures, therefore, it is easy to make chains of any complexity (of different shapes and sizes) from it, fastening the links to each other by heat treatment.
  4. Gold 750 resistant to most chemicals and acids. When in contact with them, 750 gold does not oxidize, does not change its color and properties, and does not deform. However, avoid contact of gold items with a substance called aqua regia. It is a mixture of hydrochloric and nitric acids, which have a destructive effect on the metal, and even at high concentrations can even completely dissolve it.
  5. Due to the not very high hardness of the 750 alloy there is a tendency to mechanical damage... Therefore, this metal must be handled with great care. However, if the product contains nickel or palladium, then it becomes more durable and less susceptible to external influences.

Comparison with other samples

According to the metric system, which operates in Russia, the lowest sample is 375, and the highest is 999. Accordingly, the higher the sample, the more pure metal and the fewer various additives it contains. At the same time, it is the impurities of other elements that impart strength and durability to the naturally soft gold, which means that they reduce the risk of damage and increase its service life. Let's compare the 750 with its main competitors - 999 and 585 samples.

999 sample contains the maximum possible amount of gold - 99.9%, therefore it is valued higher and costs more. Due to the high liquidity, it is the 999 sample that is recommended to be cast into ingots and stored in banks. However, products made of such gold are too soft and fragile - they are very easy to damage, so they are not suitable for everyday wear. The 750 alloy has a lower market value than the 999, but it has a greater strength and service life.

585 test - the most common in Russia, because it is considered the best in terms of price-quality ratio. However, in Europe, products made from it are quoted very low. Jewelry made from this alloy contains only 58.5% gold, so they are much cheaper (almost 2 times) than creations from 750 samples and are practically not appreciated in the world jewelry market.

But, having greater hardness and resistance to various damages, they are ideal for daily wear, while 750 is mainly used for making luxury jewelry.

Application

The main field of application is, of course, the jewelry industry. All kinds of jewelry (rings, bracelets, chains, earrings) are made of 750 gold. White 750 gold (with palladium content) is used mainly for the manufacture of exclusive designer items, which are produced by famous jewelry houses in limited or even single copies. It is often combined with diamonds and other gemstones to add value and prestige to jewelry. Gold 750 is used to decorate various things, from telephones to household items.

Entirely made of 750 alloy make branded pens, ashtrays, watches, cufflinks and other accessories... Such things emphasize the status of their owner, because only very rich people can buy them. Gold 750 is used not only for decorative, but also for practical purposes - various small parts (most often thin wires and plates) for measuring and electronic devices are made from it.

Care rules

Since 750 gold items are expensive and subject to deformation, you want them to stay in great shape for as long as possible. For this it is enough to adhere to the simple rules of caring for them.

  1. Store jewelry in special cases or jewelry box. But for each product there must be a separate box or compartment - too close proximity can lead to scratches and other damage.
  2. Wipe the garments regularly with a flannel or suede cloth to remove dust, sweat and dirt.
  3. Chlorine can cause great harm to jewelry, so remove them before washing and taking water treatments.
  4. Chemicals and certain ingredients in cosmetics can also be hazardous to gold items. Try to keep metal contact with them to a minimum.
  5. It is better to do sports, after removing jewelry so as not to damage them. Avoid collisions with other hard things.
  6. Protect gold items from iodine and mercury. These chemical elements have a destructive effect on the metal: gray spots appear on it, which will be impossible to get rid of.
  7. If some parts of the product have darkened, then you can restore the previous color using a mixture of soapy water and ammonia. Immerse the gold in this composition for 15-20 minutes, then rinse with water and wipe dry with a soft cloth.
  8. The Goya polishing paste will help to restore the lost shine to jewelry: it is applied to a felt cloth and the product is wiped with it. Onion juice is also effective for this purpose. The metal is treated with a sponge soaked in it, and after 2 hours it is washed off and wiped off.

750 gold jewelry will not only captivate you with its sophisticated beauty and add chic to your look, but also become a profitable investment for the future.
