Christy Turlington is a legendary American top model. This woman is one of the few examples of how, having achieved incredible success in the modeling business, you can fly to the skies, leave, then return, and invariably remain in harmony with yourself. On January 2, 2017, the model celebrates her 48th birthday and looks as adorable as she did 30 years ago. We will find out what are the secrets of her beauty, youth, style.

Biography

Christy Turlington was a member of the so-called great six of 1990s supermodels. Together with her, this company included Naomi Campbell, Claudia Schiffer, Linda Evangelista, Cindy Crawford and Elle Macpherson. And, probably, it is not a mystery to anyone why it is Turlington who most of all from this list is sympathetic to ordinary women. An exemplary wife, an exemplary mother, a successful business woman. Not many people manage to get to the top of success and fame, not to break off from it, not to lose themselves. Christie was lucky - she behaved very dignified and saved her face in the insidious world of show business.

Childhood

The future supermodel was born on the second day of 1969. Christie's dad was a Pan-Am pilot, and her mother, as it would be logical to assume, was a flight attendant in the same company. From a young age, Turlington went in for sports, which was actively encouraged by her parents. They in every possible way welcomed any hobby of the girl, one of the most passionate among which was horse riding. It was this hobby that subsequently led the young Christy Turlington into the modeling business.

Here is how it was. The young athlete had very good success in horse riding, she trained a lot, participated in all kinds of competitions. At some point, this sport completely absorbed Turlington, so she went to the racetrack every day - she spent all her free time from school on training. And maybe the world would soon know about her as a glorified rider. But the will of fate decreed otherwise.

A frequent visitor to the racetrack - photographer Danny Cody - saw the potential of a fashion model in young Christy. And although 13-year-old Turlington flatly refused to try herself in this business, her parents still persuaded her to go to a modeling school. They themselves, too, at first resisted the onslaught of Cody, who literally began to pursue them and paint gorgeous prospects for their daughter. But the photographer was so convincing that in the end, the parents succumbed to persuasion, and Christy Turlington signed the first contract in her life with a local modeling agency.

Model career

Oddly enough, at first Christie took her new occupation without much enthusiasm. The girl considered a contract with a modeling agency only as a way to earn money, which she planned to invest in further activities in her favorite sport. In particular, Turlington dreamed of buying her own horse.

But Christie's first steps in modeling were very successful, so she soon fell in love with this job. Until graduation, the young star of this business went to the shooting in the evenings after class. And as soon as she turned 18, Christie moved from her hometown of Walnut Creek, California, to New York. Here, the girl very quickly managed to get a contract with one of the most famous and successful agencies around the world - Ford Models.

It was 1987. As soon as she started her ascent, Turlington got on the cover of Italian Vogue, and at the same moment the best photographers in the world wanted to work with her. Christie became famous, and soon very wealthy: in 1989, the girl began her long-term collaboration with such giants as Calvin Klein and Maybelline.

In addition to participating in fashion shows and photo shoots for popular magazines, Turlington also had other interesting work in show business. For example, together with her colleagues "in the shop" - Crawford, Campbell and Evangelista - Christie in 1990 starred in a video clip for the then popular George Michael song Freedom.

But after only 4 years, being literally at the top of the world, Christy Turlington decided to leave the modeling world. At the age of 25, the model faced dissatisfaction with her appearance for the first time in her life. And the reason for this was the sharp increase in weight. At that time, the girl decided to quit once and for all with such an addiction as smoking. And these dramatic changes affected the figure of the model.

Strengthened the model's determination to retire and her conservative views. Of course, it was too early to talk about the decline of youth. But when faced with the first serious changes in her figure and with the subsequent cooling to her person in a professional environment, the girl realized that it would only get worse. But Turlington is one of the few models in the modern world who is an ardent opponent of plastic surgery and other methods of artificial beauty maintenance.

At that turning point, Turlington decided to pursue her education. The next 4 years the girl devoted to the study of religion and philosophy - in these two specialties in 1999, Christie received two bachelor's degrees at once.

Charity

In search of harmony with herself and with the world around her, Turlington came to the realization that her overwhelming success, which brought her colossal fees, could serve her spiritually. At some point, Christie began to spend round sums on charity. She devoted not only money to good deeds, but also the lion's share of her time.

A serious reason to think about health (both her own and those of others) was for Turlington the tragic death of her father - in 1997 he died of lung cancer. This loss prompted the model to participate in the anti-smoking program.

Christy Turlington is also an active supporter of the El Salvador Foundation, which is dedicated to helping the poor in Central America. Christie knows firsthand about the fate of disadvantaged people in this state - her mother is a native of El Salvador.

Another area of Christy Turlington's charitable activities is assistance to foundations that save rare animals. She is also an active participant in various actions of the Peta organization. For example, she appears in photo shoots dedicated to supporting the protest against the extermination of fur animals for the sake of fur.

It is not uncommon for various brands to attract many well-known models to charity events. For example, the Lindex brand for one of these projects invited Christy Toni Garrn and Liya Kebede, also known for their active charitable activities, to participate.

Three world famous beauties starred in a commercial, dressed in white T-shirts with the words "#super role model" - it was a call to follow the example of supermodels and join good deeds.

These T-shirts later went on sale, and all the proceeds from them went to charities run by Turlington, Kebede and Garrn.

Christy Turlington Foundation "Every Mom Counts"

At the beginning of the new millennium, Christie began to support women's health, in particular - mothers. Soon Christie herself became a mother: in 2003 she had a daughter, Grace, and in 2006, her son Finn. But more on that later ...

Christy Turlington directed her own documentary titled No Woman, No Cry. Its purpose was to study the issue of quality of maternal health care in different countries - from prosperous states to "lagging" Guatemala, Bangladesh, Tanzania, El Salvador.

On the thought of such activities, Turlington prompted, again, his own sad experience. The model's first childbirth had complications, after which many women around the world die. But Christie was helped by qualified hospital staff. Then she began to think more and more about the fate of pregnant women from poor countries, where the level of health care is much lower and such births with a high percentage of probability will end in death.

No Woman, No Cry was released in America and many European countries in 2010, and over the past few years, through Christie's efforts, the position of women as mothers in poor countries has begun to improve markedly. In the same year, Turlington founded Every Mother Counts, and all money raised through it goes to provide medical care to pregnant women and mothers in third world countries.

In this project, Christie is supported by the IMEDEEN® brand. The brand, which produces skin and body care products, regularly makes large donations to the model's fund. By the way, Turlington became the face of IMEDEEN® shortly after the start of this collaboration.
