Skirt dress - freedom of functionality
In ancient times, clothes for people were pieces of fabric, which, if desired, could be turned into any thing. The same piece of fabric could be a headdress, dress, or cape. This is not the case now, and our wardrobes are packed with loads of things, each with a purpose.
But modern women nevertheless adopted some ideas from their ancestors. This is how transforming dresses appeared, which can be worn in different ways: both as a dress, and as a skirt, and as a tunic.
The homeland of this outfit is the Hawaiian Islands. The tropical climate and simple way of life are not conducive to changing outfits often. The girls vacationing there liked the bright, uncomplicated outfits of the Hawaiian girls so much that they introduced something similar into their beach wardrobe. So the skirt-dress was invented.
Peculiarities
So, a skirt-dress is such a transforming thing that can be worn in several ways. Lowered to the hip, it turns into a long skirt, raised above the chest - into a short dress. And if you put on leggings under it, it will become a real tunic.
Most often, the dress skirt is a trapezoidal outfit with an elastic band. An elastic band is needed so that it is comfortable to wear both at the waist and on the chest. Quite often there is a variant of a skirt dress with a top stitched with a thin elastic band - this is how the dress acquires a semi-tight silhouette.
Another popular model is a skirt-dress with an asymmetrical, “torn” hem.
Who is it suitable for?
A skirt dress is a simple summer outfit that girls with a wide variety of shapes can afford. For slender young ladies, a free silhouette will add volume in the right places, but will emphasize graceful arms and slender legs. Those who are more plump also have nothing to fear - the flowing fabric will hide the tummy and lush hips, and the open top will draw attention to the luxurious chest.
Only those with plump arms and shoulders need to be careful with a skirt-dress. Since the outfit is completely open at the top, wrinkles that form in the armpit area may be noticeable. In this case, it is better to play it safe and throw a stole or light bolero on top.
What to wear with?
A dress-skirt is a great option for walking on a hot day. On this occasion, it is not customary to dress up carefully: we are going to relax in the fresh air, and not to shine with outfits, so we will not need a lot of clothes and accessories.
We choose informal shoes, with heels or not - it doesn't matter, the main thing is to be comfortable. Graceful sandals, sandals, ballet flats, sneakers are the most suitable options. Tights with this dress are not worn, but in cool weather you can wear skinny jeans or leggings.
We complement the image with a voluminous beach bag, sunglasses, a wide-brimmed hat, bright beads or large earrings.
Since usually a dress-skirt sits somewhat baggy, many girls prefer to emphasize the waist with a thin strap.
Advice
- The skirt dress goes well with a variety of ethnic accessories, especially those that are reminiscent of Hawaii. Therefore, garlands of flowers (artificial or real) or a hairpin in the form of an exotic inflorescence will be very useful.
- The skirt dress has a very simple cut, so you can easily sew it yourself. For yourself, you can especially try: for example, choose a double-sided fabric so that you can easily change the color of the outfit.
- For the beach, a dress-skirt is the most suitable outfit. First, it can be easily removed and put on. Secondly, it opens the shoulders, arms and upper chest to the sun. And finally, a dress-skirt, lowered to the hips, will look great with a bodice from a leotard, especially if it is matched to the tone.
A dress-skirt is a must for a seaside holiday! Wearing a skirt like a dress, you can even sit in a bar. I also really like the fact that the length of the skirt can be easily changed.
